Jake Browning Not On The Field

August 12th, 2026

Where is he?

UPDATED: Not a good sign when you can’t see a man supposed to be at work when everyone else is at their desk.

Bucs backup quarterback Jake Browning is nowhere to be seen as the Bucs and Jets begin their second of two controlled (?) scrimmages.

The Bucs backup tweaked something yesterday and was pulled off the field. Bucs coach Todd Bowles hasn’t yet commented on Browning’s specific injury.

Until Browning is back on the field, your backup quarterback may be undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels.

Bowles has already said he’s not playing Baker Mayfield on Friday. Bowles said today Browning is not ruled out for Friday, but that sure seems unrealistc. Bowles said Conor Bazelak would be the expected starter if Browning can’t go.

Additionally, Benjamin Morrison showed up to the Jets’ home in Florham Park in full pads. Joe’s curious to find out if that’s just a costume he’s wearing or not.

Also, Zyon McCollum is in street clothes. Yesterday, Tristan Wirfs was running on a side field. So far, he’s just an observer. Perhaps that changes later?

would love to see Daniels play the entire game….Browning has tons of film on him already…

Morrison is entering Jonathan Banks territory…he may need to play the entire game too

    GO BUCS!!!!

  2. Pops Malone Says:

You can label Morrison a wasted 2nd round pick already. Forget about him playing, him and his hip and hamstring issues can’t even put together two days straight on a practice field. Sounds like the team blew the medical evaluations on him. Cut your losses and move on from him. A major waste of time.

  3. Couch Fan Says:

I rather see the young guy anyways.

  4. BucU Says:

Morrison 23 yrs old and has the body of a 50 yr old. Time for him to start considering a new career path.

  5. Permanently Moderated Says:

There’s a whole lot of tweaking going on.

  6. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Morrison the kitty cat is playing dress up today.

  7. LouisFriend Says:

If Browning tweaked his back I don’t want him standing outside watching practice all day. Get him treatment and leave him there until he’s back to normal.

Morrison has me wondering if we should want him on the field this year. He’s started his career exactly the wrong way with missing 2 training camps of work and being behind the learning curve ball. It’s not his fault – but his draft pedigree is meaningless if he’s getting the same number of practice reps as the vegetables growing in my backyard.

  8. Football 1 Says:

Browning not playing not likely a big loss. He was horrible with Cinn last year. It maybe better to see what they have in the other / QB’s. The only loss is perhaps not being able to see if Browning is capable as the number 2 QB. Based on last year I think he is not. Maybe it is time to bring in a real number 2 guy.

  9. NCbucfan Says:

Morrison “Mr Glassman”, and Zyon “Mr Bored”. Gotta love it!

  10. David Says:

That’s a good thing. We don’t ever want him on the field.
Absolutely horrific signing as the backup

  11. Thomas Edrington Says:

@Joe(s) — preseason games are not “worthless” to the young guys trying to make the team or at least making a case for the practice squad.

  12. Marine Buc Says:

Hopefully he will be OK in a week or so…

In the meantime it gives our other young inexperienced QBs to get some playing time.

No big whoop unless this injury is serious.

  13. Football 1 Says:

I think Bowles and Licht as in fantasy land with Morrison. Unfortunately it appears he can’t even stay healthy with no contact. He is missing his second training camp. He is really far behind. I still say get a legitimate cb, let Morrison sit and put him in a reserve role. That way he can develop and try to stay healthy without the pressure of trying to play full time. I feel for the guy he can’t get on the field. It sounding like he may never really be able to play without being injured in some capacity. Anyway the Bucs really need a CB and Morrison is unavailable. That paints a pretty clear picture to me

  14. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Football1

I really hope that Ben-Mo will be ready to go week one and our HC is just being cautious and patient with him.

But I am not at all optimistic regarding our CB situation.

Our GM has been lackluster at upgrading both ILB and CB positions…

2nd year in a row that Licht got a worthless backup for a KNOWN reckless QB that throws his body around the field. You needed a solid, reliable backup after last year’s worthless Teddy Bilgewater. Licht is dropping like a rock in water these past 2 years. We need new blood in the front office, new ideas. Licht peaked here. I’m thankful for what Brady did and it’s time to run the page.

  16. TampaBayBucFan Says:

Of course preseason games are NOT worthless.

    Joe will watch….live….and report.
Players are trying to make the team
    Coaches are evaluating
Very good practice against an opponent
    Final rosters are somewhat determined

    Worthless….is laughingly inaccurate.

  17. Bee Says:

YES! We get to see a young QB in a Bucs uni. Play Daniels all preseason. Let’s see what he can do.

  18. Bee Says:

The Bucs could have a can of corn as QB2 and it wouldn’t matter. The backup won’t play a down this season unless Baker has a season ending injury. We all know he won’t come off the field, especially in a contract year.

  19. Fishhawkbuc Says:

He never showed up in Cincy. Keep in mind, they had to bring in Flacco because he sucked

  20. MadMax Says:

    its preseason, chill lol

  21. Hodad Says:

Zyon has become more frail since signing his new deal. No wonder Licht is shying away from signing guys to new deals until he has to.

  22. Jjuice32 Says:

Fish, u are 100% correct. After what we went through last w/TB i cant believe we are going with JB, he had 2 of the best WR’s in the league last yr. and sucked to high heaven. Just about anybody is better. Browning is what we think he is.

  23. Colonel Angus Says:

Joe gets em’ every time with the “worthless” comment.

  24. Baking with Robinson Says:

I’m also in the Daniel’s band wagon. Let’s see what he can do!

  25. Joe Bob Pigskin Says:

I read that so far Dean is less than impressive in the Steelers training camp. Huh……
