Donovan Smith Joins Buccaneers’ In-House Media For 2026

August 3rd, 2026

Listeners to the Ira Kaufman Podcast will get a new episode before 6 p.m. today. There, listeners will hear Joe’s private chat with Bucs Super Bowl left tackle Donovan Smith.

Smith was on the team sidelines at Bucs training camp practice today and one nugget that emerged from the Smith-Joe conversation is that Smith has signed on to join the Buccaneers’ in-house media team for 2026.

He’ll fill the role that in recent years has been occupied by Ali Marpet, Cameron Brate and Will Gholston, who appeared to take over for Brate midway through last season.

Smith lives locally and told Joe he’s been dialed in to every Bucs game since he won a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs for the 2023 season.

And yes, Smith thinks he’s going to do a hell of a job. Marpet, Brate and Gholston didn’t set a high bar, he joked.

Joe thinks fans will enjoy Smith. He’s smart and he’s a better speaker than Gholston and Brate. If Smith loosens up, he could be special.

For those wondering, Smith looks fantastic. He literally looks like he’s been training for the NFL Scouting Combine and could take the field.

Smith said he’s about 328 pounds and more fit than during his final playing years.

Not my favorite Buc on the field but OFF the field he’s probably one of my top 5 favorite Bucs ever.

He hosted a cornhole charity tournament in 2021 and it was a blast. Dude was super friendly and patient with my son and all of the kids at the event. Best of luck to him

He shouldn’t be joining anything else involving the Bucs unless it’s working at the concession stand working as the janitor working as the waterboy or working as the mascot

  11. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

TJ Reeves has packed his bags in a hissy fit and left his gig as sideline reporter, because he didn’t get Gene Deckerhoff’s job in the booth .
    Good riddance!

  12. Fred McNeil Says:

Smith was a pretty good tackle in my opinion. Could have been more consistent. I didn’t know he retired. Maybe he hasn’t, but he hasn’t played since thas Super Bowl with the Chiefs.
