Steelers, Jets, Vikings Fans Already Talking Baker Mayfield 2027
June 8th, 2026
The mere thought of Baker Mayfield hitting the free agent market after the 2026 season has energized fans in Pittsburgh.
Today, Joe has seen Steelers podcast after podcast, and blogs, thinking Mayfield is an intriguing and possibly ideal fit after what likely is quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ final season.
Jets fans are having a similar reaction. Remember, they’re stuck with Geno Smith on a one-year contract.
Mike Florio, the renowned Vikings fan and ProFootballTalk.com guru of NBC Sports, was even talking today about Mayfield being an option for his beloved Vikings next season if the Kyler Murray/J.J. McCarthy experiment fails. Florio thought the Vikings should have pursued Mayfield after the 2023 season, his first in Tampa.
Yes, there’s a great chance Mayfield will have a free agent market in 2027, if he and the Bucs can’t come to terms on contract extension.
The Bucs could slap the franchise tag on Mayfield after this season, but that doesn’t mean Mayfield would be happy about it. And why exactly would the Bucs want Mayfield if he desired to move on to a team where he felt appropriately valued?
Joe expects the Bucs and Mayfield to remain happily married in 2027, but this contract situation remains exceptionally sticky.

They can have him and the Bucs can draft a new young QB. And finally there will be some hope, not just banking on another teams discarded old QB. Bucs tried to take the Panters 2nd string QB and make a title run. Sad.

Bee and their compatriots have already shown many times that they have no clue how football actually works, I think it’s probably from all the inbreeding
June 8th, 2026 at 9:26 pm
Ha ha you were very quick to defend your loser troll status. Truth hurts?
It would be nice to get through an article without you trolls chiming in. I could care less if you and I agree or disagree . I truly hope Baker proves you and your 2 or 3 friends wrong. Hopefully at that point you guys will go back to your saints fan site.
June 8th, 2026 at 9:29 pm
contract negotiations are always sticky. Doesn’t matter how much the player and team wants to have a happy resolution. part of the process…
June 8th, 2026 at 9:33 pm
With Baker this team can be competitive. Without him the team is back to irrelevant. He is a good QB. Tampa won’t likely be in position to draft a better QB. Any QB available in free agency will likely cost at least what Baker wants. Sign him. Get it done.
June 8th, 2026 at 9:42 pm
“appropriately valued”???
Franchise tag is $50 MILLION DOLLARS –
If that’s not “appropriate value” for playing ONE season of football then you tell me what is?
I’m sure Baker could find a way to be OK with that small pittance of compensation… if that’s what it comes to….
Bucs hold all the cards here – they can control Baker’s fate for the next 3 seasons on a year by year basis – for $150M… $40M this year – $50m franchise tag in 2027 – $60M franchise tag in 2028….
June 8th, 2026 at 9:51 pm
If Baker is a FA in 2027, it means he played like garbage, everyone got fired, and the team doesn’t want him.
If Baker plays well, the Bucs will pay him – and they can franchise him.
The idea that the team needs to panic and sign Baker coming off an AWFUL year where he singlehandedly cost the team the playoffs, got the entire offensive staff fired and caused Mike Evans to flee to the other side of the country to play “with a good quarterback” … it’s nonsense.
The Bucs have him for a year, let’s see what happens.
June 8th, 2026 at 9:56 pm
We are within a week or two of the Bucs giving Baker a 53-55 million per year 4 year contract. Then these discussions will be over.
June 8th, 2026 at 10:05 pm
3 years, 165 mil. 120 guaranteed. heavy incentives to push even higher. Easy.
June 8th, 2026 at 10:06 pm

“See above ⬆️⬆️⬆️ pathetic loser trolls“
Only trolls because they don’t say things you agree with or like, the internet is doing a number on the collective minds of our species.
Some of you are even ready to get tribal about differing opinions like a bunch of children on a schoolyard clamoring over who’s “not it” or even worse, senators and congressmen.
Water is wet
Ice is cold
People will have things to say you don’t like or agree with
Poor you.

“Jesus christ the bar is low around here. 2 Sb wins in less then 20 years and on the heels of the Brady era, we shoot for being “competing” because of our limited qb.“
For QB play? Absolutely, once you get into explaining whose fault INTs are, you know the fan base is starved.
Brady Era we had an obvious air about us, no matter who lined up across us we were expected to win.
Dudes are so sure we’re going to see the HC fired and this is the last year, but they want Baker signed to a longterm deal being 31 years of age. Like, he’s not THAT type of QB nor is that the norm in how things operate with regime change. Unless you’re say, Jameis or Josh Freeman “good” lol
June 8th, 2026 at 10:15 pm
I fail to understand how the Baker Bashers find a $50M/per annum franchise tag is acceptable for one year, but not for four or five, given that the value of $50M diminishes over time. And the QB is the last person you want on the tag. An unhappy linebacker can vent on the opponents; an unhappy quarterback sucks the juice out of his own team.
June 8th, 2026 at 10:43 pm
Baker has to play like a winner consistently or he’s not worth it. Lots of QBs can go 2-7 with game crushing late interceptions and fumbles, and they cost peanuts.
June 8th, 2026 at 10:52 pm
Don’t the trolls ever get tired of typing the same shyte day after day?
June 8th, 2026 at 10:57 pm
Baker is not the type of man to abandon his teammates. That is partly why I have changed my position regarding a trade. BUT if just one little thing goes wrong and ticks him off he just may do what I have before predicted. I’m vacillating on this because I have no idea whatsoever is really going on behind the scenes. If Baker asks for a trade all heck will break loose and Jason and the owners don’t need that. For 50 years I have wanted this team to have a true franchise QB. They finally got one and look where we are. If Baker had just a sip of the water ME13 drank he might just say you know what. Remember the uproar just one social media post by a wife caused not long ago.
June 8th, 2026 at 11:02 pm
Joe Says; And why exactly would the Bucs want Mayfield if he desired to move on to a team where he felt appropriately valued?
^^^^^
That’s why I felt that Jason would grant Baker a trade.
Those 2 first round picks he could get from the franchise tag are likely looking good to Jason.
June 8th, 2026 at 11:06 pm
This could end up being a multi team trade deal.
June 8th, 2026 at 11:12 pm
whether baker deserves it or not is one conversation, i feel like the other conversation should be whether the glazers would pay it even if they think hes worth it
June 8th, 2026 at 11:43 pm
All this is doing is driving up the price for him. Everyone’s pumping him up like he’s the teams savior or the second coming of Christ. We have nobody else, that’s why we pump him up. The man is average and above average at best sometimes. At the end of the day he’s a game ending interception machine, he’s a joke!! Walk you clown, your not wanted!!
June 8th, 2026 at 11:50 pm
That’s a lotta money for ol’ Shaky Bake.
June 9th, 2026 at 12:09 am
OMG, what a bunch of drama queens. Now Baker is demanding a trade? LOL!
He’s under contract, he’s not getting traded, he’s making $40M cash this year, he’s not sitting out. The idea that the Bucs should give him a huge new franchise altering contract when he hasn’t earned it and is under contract is laughable.
In three years in Tampa he’s had one middling season, after which the Bucs let him shop for a deal, and the market wasn’t nearly as hot for him as he thought it would be. Then had a very good 2nd season (and by very good he went 1-5 in prime-time and playoff games), then in his 3rd season was mostly good for the frist 6 games before falling flat on his face and costing the team the playoffs, and getting the entire Bucs offensive staff fired.
Baker is under contract, let’s see what happens. If he’s good, then it will mean in 2 of the last 3 seasons he was good – and that will get a QB paid. If he’s bad, it means in 2 of the last 3 seasons he was bad – and that will get everyone fired. If he’s somewhere in between, then that means in the last 4 years he was twice middling, once good, and once bad – which means he’s just a middling QB who is wanting to be paid like a star.

Bucs got him over a barrel He’d be crazy to play this year without an extension. He could get hurt, he could suck. He could gamble and sit out but financially that’s a nonstarter, so he swallows his pride signs a low ball offer that has 2 or 3 more years guaranteed If he plays great he can demand a new contract and have leverage

He’s making $40M this year – has made $131M over this career, plus millions doing awful TV commercials.
But he’s got to have security and feed his family… LOL!
Meanwhile, Brady didn’t worry too much about feeding his family – just about winning, yet he seemed to make out OK.
Also, as a reminder, Baker is 2-9 in primetime and playoff games since joining the Bucs – and just cost the Bucs a playoff spot last year and got the offensive staff fired.
So how about instead of the drama queen act, go out and be week 17 MVP, instead of telling everyone how great you are after fans chant MVP in week 6.

Yawn. He didn’t “single handedly” cost them the playoffs- Todd Bowles sorry excuse for a defense, an offensive line held together with bubble gum and bailing wire and an OC who had no business being one had far more to do with it than Baker.
As for Evans, Mike wasn’t screaming about an interception when he was in the tunnel on his way to the locker room. The guy lost faith in Todd Bowles, and who can blame him?
June 9th, 2026 at 8:32 am
Baker going public with his thoughts on contract negotiations between his side and the Bucs shows a lack of professionalism.
Why not just say we’re working on it but nothing is finalized yet and I’m sure we’ll get it done.
Then you can continue to negotiate while working on your craft. Perhaps trying to be a more accurate passer in pressure situations.
Instead he’s gone the way of many other selfish athletes that cry about being multi millionaires. No one with a brain sympathizes with that mentality.
It makes Brady look even better. All he cared about was putting the best team around him to be successful. Not being a whiny little baby until you get your way.
And if Baker does go elsewhere you’ll see just how awful he truly is.

I’m not worried about right now. Let’s see how this season goes. Seems to me Licht and the BUCS are thinking the same thing more or less. Having a franchise QB sometimes means not really having a franchise. Just a player.

Two days straight you post on here the same thing, worded differently back to back.
So I’ll leave you with this, when faced with impatience and using the rest room make sure you stick around for the follow up jingle, but anything more than 3 jingles and you’re playing with it
June 9th, 2026 at 10:54 am
Sign him. I would rather we not draft a QB to take his place. It would be a year or three before he could get us a division title.
June 9th, 2026 at 12:22 pm
Ummmm, FRANCHISE TAG. And, both of those teams WILL BE Drafting their next QB. So, this is ? a non issue, or story. You play out this season FIRST. It’s a ? No-Brainer.
June 9th, 2026 at 12:27 pm
And, the Vikings just added Jauan Jennings, to go along with THAT WR-Room of Justin Jefferson AND Jordan Addison. Kyler Murray is gonna COOK this year, & tear it TF UP. It’s gonna be CRAZY WILD. As long as, Addison can stay healthy, and outta trouble. Maybe, just grow TF UP a tad.

@ Mobucs Says: “I fail to understand how the Baker Bashers find a $50M/per annum franchise tag is acceptable for one year, but not for four or five”
It’s pretty damn simple. Because, you are committing to 6 MORE YEARS, in total… SIXXXXX. That would be throughout BAKER’S aged 36-SEASON (and HE will not age well, either). And, when you don’t have to. He’s been “injured/hurt” almost EVERY SEASON NOW!!!! It’s SO moronic to not be able to comprehend this. Especially, with there being sooooo MANY ‘uncertainties’ with this team, and it’s HC (with Baker HIMSELF, being one of them). You play out the season FIRST. He is under contract NOW, and you have the ‘franchise’ tag in your back pocket. There is absolutely NOTHING to lose. Just Chill. We’ll see how well Baker plays THIS SEASON FIRST, before deciding whether or not HE has deserved it. Baker is NOT 26. We already KNOW who and what HE is.
June 9th, 2026 at 12:43 pm
You play out the season. Period. End of Story. BUT, if you want to make a deal, JUST to make a deal… Then, a 3-year, $130-MILLION deal, with $85-MILLION guaranteed, plus ‘incentives’ for making/winning the Super Bowl, & League MVP. It’s a fair deal for both sides, given Baker’s history, AND it makes SENSE. Otherwise, you play-it OUT. Baker would be VERY SMART to take that deal too, by the way!!!! ?
June 9th, 2026 at 1:26 pm
Sign Baker, do it now. He’s a truly great qb. He gives our team a chance to win even when we wouldn’t have it normally. I think the trolls in here are fans of teams in our division. Fans from other teams wouldn’t waste this much time trying to undermine our team. They could also be hoping to steal Baker I guess but I really think they are Falcons, Saints, or Panthers fans with nothing better to do.
June 9th, 2026 at 1:33 pm
Like take Melvin here. He’s definitely not a Bucs fan which is why I skip every one of his posts. You should too.
June 9th, 2026 at 1:55 pm
Please, come and get Him. Do us all a favor! He will never be worth a 50-60mil contract! Take him off our Hands!!! Please,Please, Please.:…..
June 9th, 2026 at 3:00 pm
“Like take Melvin here. He’s definitely not a Bucs fan which is why I skip every one of his posts. You should too.”
His fandom isn’t up for you to determine, just like none of us can get you to see healthy guards aren’t going to make Baker Mayfield a better, calmer decision maker from the pocket though you swear up and down on a daily basis that was ALL that plagued us offensively.
I’m almost certain Melvin knows more ball than you do, because he talks like it
June 9th, 2026 at 7:57 pm
We can sit here and talk about how much we dont want to pay Baker 50 million, but there will always be a desparate team out there that wont take the QB position for granted and will pay what he wants and more if he hits the market. Make him happy now, he is worth it, and avoid purgatory for the next 5-10 years.
June 9th, 2026 at 9:30 pm
It would suck for the Bucs to lose him. But it would be hilarious watching the Browns owner looking like he just downed a $hit sandwich every time Baker beat them in a Steelers uniform
June 10th, 2026 at 10:03 pm
If Mayfield had played every season with the Bucs like 2024 then yes I’d say sign him yesterday to $50-60 mill per year, buuuut he hasn’t. Sure he has his moments and his bois always like to point out his stats but my eyes have not lied to me about his bad side. He’s not consistently good but too up and down and is just as liable to make a poor decision at the worst time. After last year I wouldn’t pay him more than $40mil/ year because he has never consistently shown he’s worth more.
June 10th, 2026 at 10:17 pm
Stpetematt you sound like a child. Melvin Jr has been a Bucs fan for as long as I’ve seen him up here. You on the other hand didn’t come up here until AFTER Mayfield came here as most of these rah rahs up here. You’re no one to call out anyone’s Buc fandom when you’re a Baker fan first. I can’t stand how all you sorry suckers come up here calling people who are long time Buc fans up here trolls because we’re not in love with your troll size qb.
