Todd Bowles: Bucs Seeking “No-Losing Mentality”

April 24th, 2026

Phrasing can say a lot sometimes.

Todd Bowles is a good speaker, a measured speaker not known for rambling or hyperbole. So the head coach’s comments today about new Bucs rookie edge rusher Rueben Bain made Joe take pause.

Bowles sort of said Bain brings a hunger the Bucs are seeking.

“Pass rushers come in different ways and different types and different sizes,” Bowles said. “Some are power. Some are speed. Some have an arsenal. You know, some can bend, some can’t. He can do it all. He can do it all. And he shows that up and down the line of scrimmage.

“But he plays with a mentality, a no-losing mentality, at all times. And he fights and he plays with the right kind of attitude and mentality that we’re trying to bring to this team.”

Interesting how Bowles didn’t say Bain meets the standard already permeating his defensive roster; Bowles chose to say the Bucs are trying to find more players like Bain.

A culture change is coming to the Bucs defense, Joe believes. In addition to the inside linebacker the Bucs pick tonight, newcomers Alex Anzalone, A’Shawn Robinson, Al-Quadin Muhammad and Bain, plus a revived Tykee Smith and Calijah Kancey, should raise the hunger level on defense.

Maybe, fans will walk out of The Licht House next season believing the Bucs defense delivered a physical beating — win or lose — every damn time.

This draft will just get worse. Bowzo influence for the total disaster season.

  6. Sal Volatile Says:

We can only hope Joe. I wish I knew who instilled this new mentality. Did it come from on high ?

  7. Sal Volatile Says:

Perhaps with all the new talent some bright young defensive coaches could envision a stepping stone here in Tampa. The only dinosaur we need is B-Rex.

  8. Bee Says:

A culture change is coming? Haven’t we heard this before? What the sparked the change, a rookie? What specifically is being changed to change the culture? Just more talk, we’ll know for sure this fall…

    Heading for a great season!

Maybe Jason will pull a swindle and get a draft pick for Zyon. I think his fate was sealed when he walked normally through the tunnel but found himself on IR.

I’m impressed so far with the new additions. I think our D is already better.

Get some more “dawgs” tonight, JL and TB!

    After the Falcons game

We are seeing a different Todd Bowles
He knew he had a team full of soft Loafers
And he said changes were coming to this team
And the players they are bringing in, are a different breed
They are players that want to compete, and win, at whatever cost

I’m excited for the draft tonight

  13. HC Grover Says:

    So funny

  14. Colin in Canada Says:

HC Grover maybe you should try a new team.

    I do think we’ve improved….mo choirboys

  16. Sal Volatile Says:

ME13 made a statement by leaving. Apparently that’s what it took to wake up this group. What a great parting gift left by Mike. Thank you and I wish you success .

  17. HC Grover Says:

7 wins if Bucs get some breaks.

  18. HC Grover Says:

Canada…ROFL try watching since 1976 then call back you fool.

  19. Sal Volatile Says:

OK Bowles here’s your chance to finish your contract and retire on a good note. If Zac pans out fine. If Baker is under contract and both the offense and defense are strong and sound in 2 years Tampa will have suitors.

Got to be nasty. Bain is bringing it. D trending the right direction

When you go three deep at most positions on the depth chart, you’re going to end up with soft layers. Those guys are not starters for a reason. If not for the injuries, they would not have played all at once.

Joe, you mentioned a culture change?

I don’t think all of the starters were a problem. The depth was where the issues were. They were the ones on the field.

But…I remember years ago, a player from the Pats said they didn’t even consider losing…winning was the only option.

Arians and Brady changed our culture…and I consider this the next step.

  23. Lakeland Says:

Zac Robinson is not HC material

    The Falcons players hated him

  24. Lakeland Says:

I think Zac is a one year rental

  25. Bucfan1 Says:

How about seeking a ‘cover the middle of the f-n field’ mentality. Maybe a ‘get a little closer than 10yds from the LOS” mentality? At least you hired a game clock manager. Hopefully your second round of ‘hand-picked- coaches can actually coach.

  26. Lakeland Says:

But I’m pulling for Zac Robinson

I hope he surprises everyone, and be a great OC

  27. Greg-therealone Says:

That is an interesting mentality … no-losing. Not winning mentality. No-losing. I don’t know how I feel about that but it strikes me that is the problem. Trying to not lose. In light of some of the things we have all seen in terms of questionable decisions at the end of games…

  28. Sal Volatile Says:

After the draft we/they need to bring a veteran receiver with credibility and get Baker extended ASAP. If they pull that off and Bowles somehow manages to get a solid defense I’ll go out on a limb and predict 9 wins 10 with a lot of luck and hoping for 4-5 NFC South wins because that’s what it will take.

After the special teams debacle there is now hope. If Jason Taylor can’t be had at least put JPP or Shaq or someone with OLB experience on staff. Heck put Sapp on staff.
