Six Games And 597 Yards To Go For Mike Evans
November 24th, 2024The legendary Mike Evans streak is still in play.
Extending it to 11 years is hanging by a reasonably strong thread.
Evans returned to the field today after missing 3 1/2 games with a messed up hamstring. He logged 68 yards in the Bucs’ blowout win and Joe was so happy the Bucs didn’t force the ball to Evans late in garbage time.
In fact, Evans was barely on the field with the game out of reach.
Smart.
So Evans has six games remaining to reach 1,000 receiving yards for the regular season. He needs another 597 yards, basically 100 yards per game. Evans is riding a streak of 10 consecutive years hitting that 1,000-yard mark, and reaching 11 mean he would tie Jerry Rice for the all-time record.
Evans wants the record. Bucs fans want it badly. Everyone at One Buc Palace is pulling for Evans. And be damn sure that Baker Mayfield is determined to get Evans the rock.
Joe hopes the Bucs put playoffs success first.
That’s football. Don’t go crazy for one player’s streak. If the Bucs fall out of the 2024 postseason chase, then Joe is all for pounding the ball into Evans 20 or more times a game to get him to 1,000 yards
For now, Joe thinks Evans and the streak are in a good place. He’s in striking distance and the Bucs have weak opponents ahead.

i thought they’d feed him a bit in the 2nd half

Unlikely he will reach 1000….but there sure makes a difference when Mike is in….last game 4 receptions by WRs…..this week 14…..the passes to backs are also easier with Mike playing….keep him healthy…

I am not sure this late in the season that we can call all of our upcoming teams weak.
I am pulling for Mike and think this article succinctly covers the situation.
Go Bucs!!
November 24th, 2024 at 6:31 pm
Mike will need a 150 yard game to pull that off. 5 100 yard games is expecting a lot.
November 24th, 2024 at 6:33 pm
He will get there.
November 24th, 2024 at 6:37 pm
Not counting Mike out. I think it’s possible.
November 24th, 2024 at 6:40 pm
Mike will have one of his monster games in the next 3 weeks then get his 1000 yards in the 3rd quarter of the Cowgirls game. We all get an early Christmas present. GO BUCS

It’s Mike Evans so of course he can hit his mark but he’s not running the same this year.
November 24th, 2024 at 6:58 pm
Was a blow-out so they just didn’t need him today.
Hopefully they pick up the pace.
November 24th, 2024 at 7:13 pm
Evans is yet to get a 150 yard + in a game this season. He usually gets 2 of those a year. He’s due. He gets that twice then he just needs 75 yard average in the other 4 games. It’s doable.
November 24th, 2024 at 7:18 pm
Evans ticket to the HOF is his 1000 yard consecutive season is tieing or breaking Rice’s record. Without he just doesn’t have enough accolades and awards. To make up for it, he’s going to have to move up alot the all time passing and TD lists by having a long career. 14 years without a major dropoff should do the trick.

BradyGronk – The remaining home games are…
Raiders
Panthers
Saints
I think you’re right about the 150 yard games, and I’d pick the Raiders and Saints as the two games since they tend to happen in Tampa. However that @Cowboys game could be huge as well. The stupid Panthers, I worry, will be a couple of low scoring games – hope I’m wrong, but it’s just how things go.
November 24th, 2024 at 7:30 pm
I predict Mike Evans will do whatever ot takes to achieve the goal !! But more importantly for Mike is to win ……. He’s in the Hall of Fame no matter what happens ….. still I believe he will have one more 1000 yard season !!
Go Bucs !!!!

Rod have to disagree with you again. Low scoring games against Carolina? Liam and Baker are alot alike. If they can beat Canales by 30 points they will try to beat them by 40 points the second time around. There are a couple games I’m worried about but the Panthers aren’t one of them. Liam and Baker vs. Canales and Young? Come on man!
November 24th, 2024 at 7:48 pm
He has 600 yard he need 400 more in 6 games he will definitely get it
November 24th, 2024 at 7:49 pm
The Panthers are playing hard. Canales will scheme points vs Bowles next week, guaranteed. I just don’t think the Panthers will stop the Bucs from scoring 30 again and I bet Mike is a focal point next week if he came through today feeling good. 170 and 2 for Mike next week. Call your bookie, and if it doesn’t happen next week in Carolina, double down at home vs the Raiders… see Courtland Sutton today.

Definitely smart to limit his snaps today and pull him out late in the game. Hopefully his hammy is good.
November 24th, 2024 at 11:12 pm
Carolina he is gonna have 120+ both games
November 25th, 2024 at 12:46 am
I love Liam as OC. The ball is spread around and points are plenty, BUT…..
he does not throw the ball downfield much. He has got to take a couple shots down field to Evans every single game!
The Giants played most of the game with a single high safety. There were plenty of opportunities to get Mike downfield one on one.

Maybe one of the Joe’s when wandering the hallowed hall of One Buc Palace, could ask Mr Evans the question. What is more important to you, making the playoffs or keeping the streak alive ?
November 25th, 2024 at 1:37 am
Coich got Brady his only losing season in sports in his entire life. He can certainly oversee the Bucs missing the playoffs AND Mike not getting his 1000 yards.
November 25th, 2024 at 5:14 am
Mike just being back in was giving the team that heart and soul vibe. I also felt they played Mike smart yesterday. Enough to not re-injure his hamstring, and enough to win. Definitely cheering Mike on for the record. If anyone can do it, he can.
November 25th, 2024 at 5:14 am
ME13 knows he’s going to Canton, and rightfully so. He’s a team player, and always has been. He has to be careful with the hammy. Coen has no excuse not to win this one, Canales or not. When will he start calling QB rollouts and options. At least he called a reverse and Bucs got 32 yards out of it. Yeah, I know it’s the Giants.

@74 Bucs Fan
@BradyGronk Fan
@Rod Munch
I was thinking the same thing.
If Mike can get 2 games where gets well over 100 yards… say even just 125 yards each, it would go a long way to helping him get to 1000 for the season.
I wouldn’t want to predict which games he’ll do it in, or which games would be easiest for him to hit those numbers.
I will say I’m concerned about the two Carolina games simply because Dave Canales has an inside track on our offense and our defense that other coaches don’t have.
That could make it doubly tough for Mike personally and for the team to pull off victories. We can certainly win both games and Mike can absolutely have excellent games against them. But, Liam Coen and Coach Swiss Cheese will have to do some seriously creative game planning.

I’d agree with you if Cohen was our HC. You conveniently left out our less than average HC in the equation.

Lol at the Bowles hate. It’s wild. He doesn’t miss the tackles or drop the passes. Nor does he call plays on offense. He is responsible for Vita Vea dropping back in zone but Bowles is our best bet right now.
Aside from that, the will Mike get to 1000 yards or not has to be my favorite storyline of the season. Would be a real shame if he misses it. If we had Winston, he’d undoubtedly get it cause Winston would fire it to him every play til he had it or we lost by 40 lol.

Avoiding injury should be the priority.
He injured his hamstring when he tried to stretch forward on a go route for a very slightly overthrown ball while running full stride.
He landed hard on his fully extended (slightly over extended) leg jamming everything from the heel to the hip putting too much strain on his hamstring.
Go routes are an important part of his game for his own receptions and for opening other routes for other receivers. So, his go routes need to remain part of the game plan. But, he is also great on crossing routes and out routes; protect him by using him more for those. And, he gets a lot of off coverage; have him take off like he is running a go route and hit him as quickly as possible with inside leverage. Also, have him in motion more when the ball is snapped.
But, the offensive coordinator, coaches, trainers and teammates should all be urging him to not make that extra hard push to get to a ball that is a stretch or just out of reach.
Likewise, they all should be urging him to land softly with knees and ankles flexed rather than locked out for full extension. Forget yards after catch and getting across the goal line; he has to land softly even if that means going to the ground on a lot of receptions. In the game Sunday, there was a scary moment for me where he was trying to stay on his feet with two and then three defenders trying to drive him back.
The Bucs have a much better chance of making the playoffs, and he has a much better chance of extending his streak, with Mike Evans holding playing at 95% of reasonable effort with Mike Evans playing at 110% of reasonable effort until he is injured again.
