BSPN: Bucs Will Catch Dixie Chicks? “Overreaction”

November 25th, 2024

Still in it.

If the Bucs could play the tanking Giants and their third-string quarterback every week, this might be different.

However, the Bucs have to win games on a pace that this franchise has rarely seen in order to overtake the Dixie Chicks to win the division, or perhaps win enough to secure a Wild Card berth.

Over at BSPN, Dan Graziano believes, while it’s possible the Bucs could catch the sinking Dixie Chicks, the Bucs would have to make up a two-game deficit in six games. Hard to do without help from Atlanta.

I’m certainly not suggesting the Falcons are invincible, or that a one-game deficit is too much for Baker Mayfield & Co. to overcome. Full respect to the Bucs, their fight and their three-season division title streak.

But the problem with coming from behind is very specific: Tampa Bay doesn’t play Atlanta again, so it can’t make up ground by beating the Falcons head-to-head. Plus, the Falcons won both of the games they played against the Buccaneers earlier this season and own the tiebreaker, which means simply tying Atlanta wouldn’t be enough to give Tampa Bay the division. The Falcons should come back from their bye rested and able to win three of their final five games, which would mean the Bucs would have to go 5-0 the rest of the way to pull this off.

While in the standings the Bucs are only one game behind, as Graziano pointed out, Atlanta has the tiebreaker because the Bucs lost both games to the Dixie Chicks. So to win the division the Bucs must one game ahead of Atlanta.

Could the Bucs do it? Sure. But the NFL is a minefield and “this Joe” doesn’t trust this Bucs defense to pull this off.

Did anyone watch the Stinking Panthers push the mighty Chiefs to the brink yesterday? That doesn’t look like the same terrible Stinking Panthers team they were a month ago.

All of a sudden, Carolina looks like a handful. And gee whiz, guess who the Bucs play next? Yup, Carolina on the road.

However, yesterday was a good start in the desperate march of the final seven-game stretch.

We played ATL twice already and now that Carolina is finding its foot, we play them twice. Go get a win this week and let them falconize… Carolina play them once yet…
Hey, Joe, does anyone talked to Azeez Olujari telling him the beauties of Tampa?
    Go Bucs!

  2. Tony Says:

Maybe the Giants started the wrong Devito. Maybe they should’ve started Danny Devito instead. He might of played better.😁

  3. ATLBUC Says:

Carolina is not an easy out.

  4. MadMax Says:

We won a game we were supposed to win….we’re still not out of the woods.

  5. Bucfish Says:

Somebody should tell Graziano that teams play 17 games per season. He said the Bucs have to go 5-0 the rest of the way and the Falcons should be able to win 3 of their final 5 games. We both have 6 games left.

Perfect pic to fit the red tufts of hair on the temples, the red nose and makeup.

And precisely the reason why no sane football fan expects the Bucs to win more than they lose. Loser is as loser does, Jenny.

  7. Dave Pear Says:

Canalwater makes Bryce Young look like Mahomes against his old stooge, this one is embarrassing. Bucs lose by 3 scores.

  8. Joe in Michigan Says:

Wins in the NFL are hard if you have a bad coach. Todd Bowles is a bad coach. Look at Kirk Cousins stats against the Bucs vs. the rest of the league, because the other coaches have a clue.

  9. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

If Atlanta beats SD next Sunday then they likely win the division. Look at their remaining schedule since it is similar to ours.

  10. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Bucfish, thanks for catching that too. One might think an “expert” would know how many games are in a season. Useless talking head script readers.

Also, if the Bucs win next Sunday are they going to get credit or will it be because the Panthers stink? Seems doomsday posters think we are playing a surging juggernaut

“”Wins in the NFL are hard if you have a bad coach. Todd Bowles is a bad coach. Look at Kirk Cousins stats against the Bucs vs. the rest of the league, because the other coaches have a clue.””

Bowles costs us at least 2 and probably 3 wins each season. After the season this organization should absolutely promote Liam to HC and tell Todd he can either relinquish HC duties and concentrate on being the DC or he’s free to walk.
If that doesn’t happen we’ll lose Liam and be stuck with Bowles as the HC insuring our future as a non contender.

  12. Pewter Power Says:

Panthers raiders and giants. Bucs fans who want to keep Bowles as head coach and make the playoffs should stop thinking about catching the falcons, they can win three games, Wildcard is the only path

  13. Jmarkbuc Says:

    The kitty’s and the Saints..

We tend to beat the Saints in their place, and then get curb stomped by them in ours..

    Carolina.. pretty much the same.

Beating the hapless Giants is great and all, but getting ahead of ourselves is what put us in this position.

  14. First Name Greatest Says:

Bucs only have Todd Blows defense to blame if they miss the playoffs.

Pass defense has been a struggle under Todd for YEARS, YEARS!!!!!!

  15. johnnymoon Says:

There are 6 games left not 5 ..Atlanta could go 3n3 and than the Bucs 5n2 ..so that is more likely .

  17. Buddha Says:

This is the NFL. Yesterday Tennessee beat Housten. Thursday Browns beat Steelers. Dallas beat.Washington. Nothing is given. In 2021, Buccaneers were 7-5 after 12 games. They won the last 5, then 4 in the playoffs. If we win in Charlotte, we will be 6-6. Luck plays a role in the NFL. We are the most injured team in the league this year. The 49ers also have a lot of injuries and they too are struggling.

  18. Lightningvinny Says:

It all doesn’t matter,, the guys on NFL network already said the NFC championship game will be Detroit/Phily,, that no one in the NFC could beat either……..
    Wait a second!!!!!!

  19. Lightningvinny Says:

Some other food for thought ,, If the Bucs do manage to win division they could go into playoffs as the 3 seed

I just hate the fact the atlanta games werent more spaced out we literally played them 2 weeks later after the first game
