Rachaad White

It’s seems Joe and Rachaad White’s mother had something in common.

Joe has long been a harsh critic of White the running back, as in when he gets the football handed to him by a quarterback. The production simply hasn’t been there.

Ok, he was a rookie in 2022. But then came the 2023 season and White didn’t look improved or more confident.

Joe was critical and some fans railed against Joe for blaming White. So with that in mind, Joe found it interesting to hear White talk about his rough start to the 2023 season during his visit to WDAE radio last week.

White said he’s a tough critic of himself but his mother is harsher and demanded answers.

“My mom on me,” White said. “Like I started off this season horrible, bro. My mom called me, like, ‘You alright? You still love football? Like what’s going on? You don’t even look like yourself. Like you don’t look like you’re having fun. You don’t look like nothin’.”

Of course, White’s rushing game improved significantly late last season. Still, he has much to prove in the running game. It looks like he’ll get every opportunity to do that entering the season as the No. 1 running back unless the Bucs surprise a lot of people in next month’s NFL Draft.

Love him as a background threat. Honestly wish they 1. had better play calling so his runs where not obvious and 2. actually made lanes for him to run through.

We need a compliment back, but with they way they telegraph plays it will not matter until they do #1

  2. A Bucs Fan Says:

The hip drop tackle has been banned!!!! Come on… belts and flags here we come.

  3. BucsFan Says:

Draft JPJ at Center and you will amazingly see White running better.

  4. Dr Says:

Ray Davis or bust in the draft!

  5. SB~LV Says:

Hip drop is a natural human technique, all animals do it. Watch some African lion, leopard, cheetah take downs.
    Watch rodeo roping.
    Not my game anymore…

  6. BucsFan Says:

Injury rate was running at almost 10% from this hip drop tackling technique. Players will adjust and the game will not suffer because of the change. Yawn.

  7. SB~LV Says:

The game WILL suffer from arbitrary FLAGS
    Just like arbitrary holding flags
Just another way to F’ up the once magnificent game

  8. Bucs Guy Says:

Doubt JPJ will be there. Barton or Frazier would also be day 1 starter at C. Davis, Allen or Estime at Power RB.

People need do do their homework before criticizing players:

Here are the stats for 2022

    R White 3.7 ypc
    L Fournette 3.5 ypc
    K Vaughn 3.1 ypc

    So….White as a rookie beat L Fournette

It is our Oline….not R. White

I’d be all for drafting Ray Davis from Kentucky, who Coen knows well. I bet he could give Rachaad some competition for the carries… It wouldn’t be terrible to have a 1a and 1b.

  15. 1#bucsfan Says:

Deff gotta step up his Running game but man he’s a threat out in space. If he doesn’t get better at running then get someone who can and use white in the passing game. I know defense will see white and know it’s a pass but dude is electric out of the back field

You may have heard they have a new OC this year. 🤣🤣🤣

Coen’s got more playcalling experience than Canales did and may be less predictable… Of course, if you run on first down a fair amount of the time, and don’t average over 4 YPC doing it, everybody says “precdicable!”… I have a feeling Coen will do a better job mixing the run and pass.

  17. Olboy Says:

Let’s see what he looks like if we can get a day 1 C.

On the hip drop. It’s the most natural thing. If say it’s instinct and boo hoo Injuries. Risk vs reward and these guys are well payed for the risk.
Whether this was owners or players. It goes against nature abdnthe nature of the game. Whatever. I’ll be laughing my ass off when a receiver gets behind a CB and the CB just lets him go because why would he want to possibly take on that fine for making a natural style tackle. It’ll definitely be a scoring league now. /eyeroll

  18. Tucker Says:

It was both white and the oline it just depends on when you are looking to see which was to blame at the time.

  19. infomeplease Says:

Hopefully the online play and their run blocking vastly improves this coming season. Then RW1’s mom’ saying “You don’t look like nothin’.” (A double negative) will come true! And RW1 will look like something!!

  20. D Cone Says:

Just like launching at a WR Refs will be looking for defenders leaving their feet and rolling down on the lower leg.

Believe it will be reviewable like targeting and just another way to extend games and give owners more time to sell beers and hotdogs while Broadcasters sell one or more commercial spots per game.

  21. unbelievable Says:

They claim they’re only banning the “swivel hip drop”, but we all know how this is going to go… absolutely terrible flags thrown at critical moments that completely Eff 1 team over the other.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

We get it Joe, you hate White, and think Zack Moss would have fixed the running game… Just stick to your guns, sooner or later maybe you’ll be right.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

unbelievable – this is the future, why the NFL is sponsoring flag football at the olympics. Women, the limp wrists and the rest of the world think American football is too violent, so you dumb the sport to appeal to them and the corporate sponsors.

Amazing how in the dystopian future we all say in the 80s everything would get more violent and more fun and more outrageous, instead all that happened was men now men in dresses roam womens lockers rooms, and the football field.

  24. Jack Clark Says:

Of course Rachaad White wasn’t having fun getting hit before he could even cross the line of scrimmage because he had to run up the middle on first and second down behind the worst run blocking guards and center in the NFL.

  25. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

Haha Rod Munch! One minute you say something ridiculous, the next you’re writing something wonderfully relevant. I don’t know whether to hate you or buy you a beer.

  26. Daniel Hammond Says:

We’ll definitely find out this year with Cohen call in the place from what I’ve seen with the other teams he’s coordinated for they did well at running the ball

  27. Defense Rules Says:

sweti_yeti … ‘I’d be all for drafting Ray Davis from Kentucky, who Coen knows well. I bet he could give Rachaad some competition for the carries’.

Don’t think the Bucs are interested in giving Rachaad ‘competition for the carries’. More important for us to find a power RB who can COMPLEMENT what Rachaad already gives us (and compensate for what he doesn’t). IOW someone who can produce in those really tough short-yardage situations.

Audric Estime from Notre Dame (ranked #4) comes to mind (5’11” & 227 lbs with a 4.55 time in the 40 & expected to go in Rnds 2-3). Here what Walter Football said about him … ‘Estime was superb in 2023 for the Fighting Irish, averaging 6.4 yards per carry for 1,341 yards and 18 TDs. He also had 17 receptions for 142 yards. Power downhill runner who picks up yards after contact and has the quickness to hit the hole. He is a workhorse who could have three-down starting potential’. Probably won’t be there later in Rnd 3 however.

Braelon Allen from Wisconsin (ranked #10) is another workhorse (6’1″ & 245 lbs with a 4.56 time in the 40 & expected to go in Rnds 3-5). Walter Footballs comments … ‘Allen is a huge power back who was a steady runner over the past three years. His best season was his freshman debut, when he averaged 6.8 yards per carry for 1,268 yards and 12 touchdowns. In 2022, he ran for 1,242 yards while averaging 5.4 yards. Last season, Allen averaged 5.4 yards again while totaling 984 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also showed more receiving ability in 2023 with 28 receptions for 131 yards.’ That’s excellent CONSISTENT production, a lot of it very likely in short-yardage situations (a beastly RB weighing in at 245 lbs who runs hard would be my preference in a tough yardage situation).

  28. Defense Rules Says:

Rod … ‘instead all that happened was men now men in dresses roam womens lockers rooms, and the football field.’

Aw come on Rod. A little melodramatic perhaps? The only Buc ny of us knew for sure was gay was Carl Nassib, and he never acted like that.
