Wrong About Mike Evans

March 5th, 2024

It’s lying season in the NFL. Maybe some would prefer calling it “misdirection” season.

So Joe thinks it’s odd how some media types seem to believe so much of what they’re being told.

Joe and Bucs media icon Ira Kaufman patrolled the NFL Scouting Combine last week and talked to all kinds of people — people employed by the Bucs and those not with the Bucs.

The distinct and collective vibe Joe got over multiple days of talks was that the Bucs would re-sign all their key free agents and that it wouldn’t be much of a challenge to do so, though it might end up more costly than the team desired.

Then came Sunday. Bold reports flowed from Diana Russini, now with TheAthletic.com, and from TampaBay.com. Each report said it’s a done deal that Mike Evans will hit the open market and will not sign with the Bucs before the ringing of the free agency bell next week.

Then Evans re-signing with Tampa Bay was announced on Monday morning, one day later.

The moral of the story for fans and media is to proceed with caution in February, March and April. Take time to sift through the BS rather than taking a stand because one person said something.

On that front, Joe remains calm and peaceful with expectations of the Bucs returning their key free agents with relative ease.

What time does the Franchise tag window close? 4 eastern time?

  3. Buc1987 Says:

    Bye Mike…oh wait.

  4. Marine Buc Says:

PFT just reported that Evan’s deal is worth less than was originally reported by like $8-$10 million dollars… There are incentives that were originally reported as guaranteed money.

The Bucs actually got a pretty good deal from Mike.

    With all due respect Joe….

People could get the wrong info, happens to everybody involved in Journalism, it’s way more important from a consumer stand point what you Joe’s or Ira have to say, your views your info etc,

It is not interesting reading what other Journalists say here, seems to me sometimes that JBF is becoming the google from Bucs news. Since when is so important if Stroud is wrong or correct? Doesn’t look good
Not sure where you’re going with this, but Joe is simply cautioning fans that many things reported this time of year — including draft buzz — are questionable no matter how firmly they’re stated. Joe gave two examples. Joe shares what Joe finds interesting about the Bucs without regard for much else — sources, hurt feelings, etc. –Joe

    She’s wrong all the time.

Everyone knows that Mike only signed after he was assured that Baker Mayfield, who he publicly endorsed with great enthusiasm and respect, would have to find another team and that 36 year old Rusty Wilson would be his quarterback, or Mike’s secret favorite, Kyle’s Trashk.

Jason comes to this website and reads the genius of the know-it-alls who pose themselves as more football knowledgeable than Jason and staff, Mike and teammates, or Bucs coaches. It’s shocking that multiple offers from OBP to these hidden football savants haven’t been made yet.

  8. Rod Munch Says:

The Athletic is owned by the NY Times, so you know half of what they push is going to be fake news.

    Just another Liar’s Season.

    Believe nothing until it happens.

Agents are spreading bullPelosi to help their clients.

  10. Crickett Baker Says:

Ya. I especially dislike Florio. He talks frequently with info from an anonymous source which I have come to believe is his imagination.

  12. Jack Clark Says:

Awesome! Mike Evans is our entire offense, he can make any quarterback look good. Now we can go with Russel Wilson or Kyle Trask if Baker Mayfield sorry as wants more than 35 million a year to be an average quarterback.

  13. SlyPirate Says:

Joe, why don’t you start a BS meter on every story pass along? 1-Legit, 10-BS. Make sure Beckles has a permanent 8-10.

  14. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Don’t forget about your boy Ian Joe he’s wrong 90% of the time sorry as career loser

  15. Oddball Says:

Cause I got a peaceful easy feeling’
And I know you won’t let me down…

  16. LongSeason Says:

Oddball, you got a ‘Peaceful Easy Feeling’. Remember we still have Bucco Bruce singing “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.”
    “You ain’t going nowhere.”
    “You ain’t going nowhere.”

It’s been all over the place with rumors. Not just The Athletic, but other media too. Deep breaths. In the end, Mike is staying here! Go Bucs!

  21. David Says:

    JACK CLARK

Russell Wilson? Kyle Trask? Thank God you’re not in charge. I would not start either one of them. What would be the point of Russell?? Just draft one from the wealth of QBs this year instead of 2 years from now. Stupid
Trask has proven he’s not a starting QB or he would’ve been given a chance. He was a bust.
    Baker is a done deal.

  22. BillyBucco Says:

Joe cautions people to R.E.L.A.X. and David says Baker is a done deal!!!! LMAO
Did you even read the article? Caution. Caution. Caution.
Odds are he stays yes, but NOBODY KNOWS.
I guess saying I told you or joining Tony is an egg rubbing contest is already on the calendar.
