“That Part You Love”

January 23rd, 2024

Lots of Buccaneers pride is flowing.

Rightfully so.

The team overachieved. Most NFL clubs can’t say that today.

Head coach/defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is among the proud masses. He explained on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

“As a team, anything short of the Super Bowl is not a success, but from a toughness standpoint, an effort standpoint and a togetherness standpoint of how we’ve grown throughout the year, that part you love,” Bowles said of his roster.

What did Bowles tell the team after Sunday’s season-ending loss in the Detroit, in Round 2 of the playoffs?

“I just talked to them about, you know, our goals falling short of the Super Bowl but at the same time I love the toughness,” Bowles said. “Nobody pointing fingers, the way we stood together all year, the way guys picked each other up, the way we fought through adversity and came out and had a chance [against the Lions]. We just gotta get better next year.”

Joe was proud of the Bucs’ showing on Sunday, and nothing will evaporate that, not even the X files.

Assuming the Bucs can bring back their core free agents, Joe sees the Bucs as the early favorites in next year’s NFC South.

    A Glorious Loss.

  2. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Yessir, no quit in that team. Could have turned into a crap show like the Iggles but they didn’t. Props to all the team leaders and especially Bowles. He might make some boneheaded gameday decisions, but a steady hand in the midst of that godawful losing streak paid off. Licht will do some GM voodoo and the corr will be back. Future is bright

    GETTING BETTER …
    1. Resign Evans, Winfield, Baker, LVD (Bucs have the $)
    2. Add Vets at DL and S. Fletcher Cox @ $8.5M and Jordan Whitehead @ $6M.
    3. Let young rookies and sophomores improve.
    4. Draft C, G, MLB, OLB, RB.
    5. Teach Bowles how to use timeouts.

  4. Duthsty Rothdes Says:

Can the bucs renegotiate the 2 crappy DB’s that held Licht hostage and are not playing up their outrageous salaries? That is a losing formula to start the next season

  5. R O Says:

Interior of our O-line is Avg or below Avg. Im including Mauch in that. I know he is going in to year 2 as a starter. But we need more beef and attitude in the interior or we arent winning anyhthing.

  6. Dewey Selmon Says:

Was 1 playoff victory worth keeping Bowels around for 1-3 more years? We could have lost to Carolina missed the playoffs and been looking foe a new HC today.

  7. Boss Says:

they over performed given playing under the TB system. I will give them high fives and kudos all dang day for that.

  8. TomBucsFan Says:

any chance we can just double up on rookie Guards and move Mauch to center

  9. covertwo22 Says:

hopefully Mauch will improve his strength and size in off season and be a monster next year. Center is the key position they need to find in the off season.
Stinnie was an upgrade and isnt bad. A legit center would make a huge difference.

Please, Please, Please do whatever you have to do to get a monster OLB/DE!!
besides Yaya, outside pass rush is aweful!

  10. Steven007 Says:

Dewey, coach has to perform now. Different expectations have been set. No way he gets 3 years unless we win. I think next year will be much like this year in terms of his coaching status.

  11. HC Grover Says:

We lost the air war. 2 interceptions dropped that would of won the game and 2 interceptions by the Lions that won the game for them….I still cant get over it. That is why we are not going to Super Bowl.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Time to spend some draft picks on our Offense…….G/C……..TE, RB

  13. Lombardi Lenny Says:

Brady went to 10 Super Bowls and won 7 of them.

Think about that and really let it sink in

  14. Rod Munch Says:

Licht knows a thing or two about offensive lineman, that’s not going to be an issue unless you lose more starters to injury or sudden early retirement.

  15. A Bucs Fan Says:

I’m seeing a lot of chatter about Canales being a serious candidate for the Panthers. Especially since he and Dan Morgan worked together in Seattle.

If that happens I think that will signal a goodbye to both Baker and Evans.

    ^^^^^^^

On the bright side, it gave you something to complain about.

  17. Cardiac kidz Says:

We need to get the biggest and nastiest Center, either by Draft or Free Agency. It will help Mauch and also give our 5 10″ QB a chance to get to his second and third reads.

  18. CleanHouse Says:

The standard is too low here

Had TB12 but missed the lesson just like they missed the time out.

    Fire Bowles today

Hire Belichick before the Falcons do

  19. Let Em Bake Says:

For those who like to make a summer wager (which adds a little spice to the viewing), you won’t get good odds on the Bucs to win nfc south again. But, Vikings, Chargers, Falcons, and Jets all have 3rd place schedules. These may not win their division, but a playoff birth will get you at least 8 to 1… Falcons have the easiest schedule of all 32 next year…. Harbaugh??

  20. CleanHouse Says:

You can’t coach speed and you can’t teach smart
    Bowles must go immediately.

  21. MomBucsFan Says:

Thanks to Joe and IRA for great articles! Thanks to all fans on this site! Light hopefully will shine bright in offseason! Awesome players and coaches in face of adversity! Here is to a bright future for us all! God bless you all!

  22. Boss Says:

I will wager just about anyone that we are in the bottom two of the nfc south next year……. I think NO and ATL will hand us our hat if we are playing against belicheck and chucky coached teams. I think NC with canales would beat us as well, but I would not take that bet.

  23. MomBucsFan Says:

I meant Licht to shine bright for free agency and draft!

  24. Dave Pear Says:

Toad Bowels is the part I don’t love. Fire his quitting zone bust coverage behind. At least he telegraphs all his blitzes so they get picked up, though.

  25. ModHairKen Says:

SlyPirate, top notch. Can’t agree more.

  26. stpetebucfan Says:

    RO

Not to disagree but Mauch actually got solid reviews for a rookie. But I understand your point.

Even those who praise Mauch have done so with the perspective he played well for a rookie from a bumfk program. I think ALL agree Mauch needs to hit the weight room and believe that another year and Mauch will hold up his end of the bargain. Goeddekke played better than expected and he too will benefit from the year of experience at his position.

The Bucs have a Pro Bowl LT…a very good RT…a potentially good RG. They NEED a Center and LG big time.

    —————-

Gtuden isnt going to coach in NO. And if he did, he’s a career .500 coach who can’t build a team.

  28. Larrd Says:

I don’t think they overachieved. They have a strong roster and played .500 ball most of the year. They are young in lots of spots, I guess, but lots of high draft picks on both lines, lots of pro bowler types, maybe a couple HOFers. No shame in losing to the Lions, but they have similar talent levels, IMO.

  29. Dave Pear Says:

Bowels qualified for his real estate licens today. You go Todd! Sell heaps and leave the Bucs to a real head coach. Like Harbaugh.

  30. BakerBucs Says:

Did we hire Bryce young at 5’10” or is this a bad joke or is cardiackidz an idiot

  31. BakerBucs Says:

Baker did throw an int but all the complainers he can’t read2nd & 3rd reads or hit the bombs I saw 158.3 qbr must mean he can do all that saw bomb after bomb rite on the money with several drops to our wr credit but who is counting

  32. Mike C Says:

Clean house and Grover, grow up, 32 teams, you are not going to win it every year, it was a good season, quit being up tight pricks.

  33. Mike C Says:

And Joe, what is the record of a road team after a Monday night game??? Answer not good, MNF has no place in the Playoffs!

  34. Tim Says:

So proud of my Bucs. Great job this year. All these young guys making plays. Just great all the way around. Will only get better. The only sore spot looking forward is we have to wait until next season kicks off to watch these guys make us proud and excited again. It’s great to be a Bucs fan. GO BUCS!

  35. Sylvia Says:

When a head couch refuses to play the (whole game) he is telling his players I don’t think you are capable of making a TD so let’s just give it to them. They deserve to get a chance to further. I personally think he should hav been fired for making that call.

  36. DJVikings Says:

Not a big fan of Bowles because he lacks enthusiasm which I think you need in this game, but he deserves to come back. Regular season record easily could have been 13-4. Took a minute to gel with Baker. People are attracted to big names like Belichek who has ruined Matt Jones’ career. He won because of the players he had on offense and defense not because he was a coaching genius. Reminds me of a fan years ago saying “we sure can use you now Lou” after Madden got the Rays to the playoffs and World series. Something Lou never got close to with his time with the Rays. Its like, be quiet moron.
