Todd Bowles Declares YaYa Diaby A Starter Going Forward

November 29th, 2023

It’s official. Todd Bowles came right out and said it.

Speaking yesterday on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Bowles made it clear that YaYa Diaby replacing 2021 first-round draft pick Joe Tryon-Shoyinka at edge rusher is permanent. The rookie third-round pick got his first career start Sunday in Indianapolis.

Bowles will still have his outside linebaker rotation, but Diaby will get the starter’s share of the reps.

“They’ll all play. At the same time, they gotta be ready to play, but YaYa will be our starter,” Bowles said.

For those who missed it, Diaby talked to Joe exclusively after the Bucs-Colts game and Diaby shared how much he treasures the opportunity.

More important, he earned it.

Bowles added the Diaby “does some things better than Joe” and “probably is the [physically] strongest [outside linebacker] we have out there.”

    Good move.

I guess Bowles finally got tired of people calling him out.

No 5th year option for JTS.

  2. zzbuc Says:

    Makes sense….

  3. TonySoprano Says:

Didn’t he also say Watts earned more playing time and then proceeded to bench him the entire game last week?

  4. HC Grover Says:

Poor Plan 9. He ran out of fuel for hia retro rockets.

  5. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Maybe we can get a 5th round draft pick for JTS prior to the draft.

  6. Fansince76 Says:

    Hallelujah!

  7. ElioT Says:

It’s about ten games too late.

  8. Jack Clark Says:

YES! THANK YOU JOE!!!! Pop the champaign bottles! Our crusade to bench JTS sorry, weak, useless as and start YaYa Diaby was victorious 🥳

  9. Austin Says:

Trade CD3 and Dean, maybe even Shaq.. we need to cut serious cap

  10. RagingBrisket Says:

Licht is so overrated. Look at all these high value busts with Winston, JTS, Hall, RoJo, Trask, etc…
This team will always be mediocre with Licht and no HOFer like Brady to save his lousy track record. You can’t just give credit for all the legitimate good picks like Wirfs, Evans, Godwin, Vea and Winfield without also calling out the massive waste of free agent capital and draft value. Even Dominik had acquired some good players in his short stint but had about the same bust rate.
But yeah, Diaby looks better than JTBust but what is that even saying?

  11. Bee Says:

Day late and a dollar short. That’s Todd for you. Making necessary adjustments when the season is cooked

  12. BucsBeast Says:

Last ditch effort to save his job

  13. It's Corn Says:

So last week he didn’t know the defense, but now, he totally does!

ulch we need a new HC.

  14. Obvious Says:

And the sound of cheering can be heard in the North, South, East, and West of Florida. Elation and dancing in every Buc fans household erupts as the dreams of bone crushing, smack down filled images come clear. Visions of opposing qbs getting hit so hard that they bounce from the impact, puts a big smile on every face.

A “golf clap” can be heard in the background as well from the secondary.

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

Good sensible move. JTS was not the answer. Maybe he excels in a rotational role, you never know.

The best players should be on the field. Simple.

  16. Joe Says:

If it’s true Reich wanted CJ Stroud and he fired the guy who got it right that is an absolutely beautiful series of events. Enjoy that #1 pick you gotta give to the bears lmao.

    YaYa started at Indy.

  17. Alanbucsfan Says:

JTS is a bust – the only reason he got a sack last Sunday was because his only blocker was a RB who whiffed on his block.
I wouldn’t call RoJo and Trask busts- RoJo was an important part of SB team and Trask hasn’t played yet

  18. Buc4evr Says:

Finally, it only took 11 games for Bowles to realize what the fans have been saying…. jTS is a bust. Hall is next.

  19. tbc 1 Says:

Instead of White we should have Dennis in there he looks hungry and maybe give white a rest and something to think about.

  20. D-Rome Says:

    Licht is so overrated.

    Is he?

How do you even measure that? In terms of drafting, Rich McKay hit on 11 players who played in that first Super Bowl.

Jason Licht had 21 draft picks who were a part of that Super Bowl team. All GMs miss more than they hit. Licht is not overrated at all.

  21. Craig Says:

Hot Toddie has a wierd way of running a defense. Most outside LBs are not permanent pass rushers.

That is just half of the failing of JTS.

It is a good move not just to get JTS on the bench, but Ya Ya is a real LB and can play coverage and seal an edge well.

That will free up Shaq to get some more rushes in. That will make this an even bigger win.

  22. Pewter Power Says:

I cannot wait for this coach to get fired and take all of his staff with him….it took them all this time to see what bucs fans have seen since the start of the season? What a complete waste of a season. Please Glazers don’t put us through another season of Bowles as head coach

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Joe Tryon-Shoyinka had most of his 3 years. He is a bust….though he might make a suitable backup…at a much lower salary.

    Nailed it.

  25. westernbuc Says:

Easy to say this is overdue but I’d rather he have a chance to develop and be ready rather than be too early. Great draft by Licht

  26. Debbie Says:

Rojo was a good player. He just missed a 1000 yard season because Brady gave Antonio more plays so Antonio could get his bonus. Licht got us Brady and a Lombardy. I thank him for that. It was a great ride.

  27. Lamarcus Says:

Yea. I really like this player. Relief having real NFL players playing for the Bucs. Good move.

  28. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

    Too little too late

  29. Conner50 Says:

    RagingBriscuit…

Can’t really say Hall is a bust just yet. Trask has not played at all so yea can’t speak on that either. Licht is not the problem, GM’s hit or miss everyone one of them do. Licht has drafted a lot of great players and got a Super Bowl. Firing Bowles will be his next move
