Bucs Get Flexed By CBS

November 21st, 2023

The NFL, and perhaps its broadcast partners, move in sometimes mysterious ways.

Usually, when a game gets flexed to a better kickoff time and broadcast window, it’s to get more eyeballs on a better game or better teams.

The Bucs (4-6), losers of five of their last six games, were scheduled to face the Stinking Panthers (1-9) a week from Sunday at 1 p.m. Instead, the game was flexed today to a 4:05 p.m. kickoff.

That game will be the only 4 p.m. game shown on CBS.

Why?

The nationally televised game in that window will be on FOX — the 49ers at the Eagles.

The good thing about this for Bucs fans? More time to tailgate and lubricate to insulate you from what could be a dark day if the Bucs continue to shoot themselves in the foot like they have the past two months.

Football fans across the nation with YouTubeTV must be excited.

Great news for us Bucs fans who don’t live in Florida, we’ll be able to watch the game for free

Be careful. The nationally televised game that day is 49ers-Eagles on FOX. Not sure (yet) how much of the country will get the Stinking Panthers-Bucs.

  3. Buc4evr Says:

It doesn’t matter, the Bucs are a third rate team.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

TBBF would get the Carolina game (live in NC)…….but I will be traveling to Tampa again to help assure the victory over the “Stinking” Panthers..
Bucs usually win when I travel to games.

Feels strange to see a NFC-NFC game on CBS.

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

Get the NFL Ticket like I got guys. I have 4 TV’s runnin on Sunday in my house. Chicken wings, fries and libations flyin everywhere!
    GO BUCS.

  7. T. McGee Says:

Tailgate and lubricate? Man, ya’ll are wild before a game.

  8. NJbucs23 Says:

NJ be in town for the game !! Beautiful now I can get my yoga class in and eat good food before watching that crap fest.

    It is!

This is what you call “living.”

  11. DungyDance Says:

Baker’s team last year? That’s the only interesting story line I can think of.

No game during the 1 pm window means Red Zone can just stay on, without flipping back and forth. Hate it when flipping back and forth between Bucs game and Red Zone during commercials. Often it comes right after seeing our opponent score, and since Red Zone is about 30 seconds behind, you have to see them score again right as you flip to it.

  12. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

Total guess: They didn’t want games with potentially more interest to compete against the 49ers and Eagles. Bucs and Panthers wont get any interest so why not sacrifice that game against the ratings monster.

  13. tbbucs3 Says:

Waiting on the “Darrell Henderson and the Bucs” article

  14. HC Grover Says:

The game was on Amazon Prime for 1 they will prolly dump it now. Oh well I will go fishin.

  15. PC Says:

They want more eyes on the Bryce Young breakout performance game against one of the league’s worst pass defenses. Bowles likes to make rookies shine.

  16. Confido75 Says:

I think the only reason folks are going to watch the game is to have a reason to drink heavily, because there is no other reason to watch this dumpster fire.

Short-term investments. But yeah, you’re right.

    i’m hearing lavonte is a 3-6 week injury…

    minimum of 3 without him…

if DW is even thinking contract, he’s gonna have to level up like a mofo in these coming weeks

  19. BucsFan81 Says:

Then NFL must know something we don’t. Maybe by time we get to the end of the year and this week we will either still be in the race for the division or worst case be in a spot for a top 5 pick. Maybe the NFL knows that the loser of this game will get a the number 1 pick by time we get to this point in the season.

  20. Mr. Editor Says:

Us against the world! Or, in reference to Joe’s comment on how the Bucs “shoot themselves in the foot”, it’s the Bucs against the Bucs. Until the team gets its collective act together and strings together some wins, I would rather the Bucs fly under the radar and be out of the national conversation for the time being. No more Sunday, Monday, or Thursday nights. Has anyone done an assessment of the Bucs’ record for those prime time games during the last 5-10 years?

  21. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    BUCS ……..aka…..

    ……the SUCS

…………breakout the brown paper bags for the den of depression the rest of the season

    – soldier into green bay and pull a win out no matter what !!! (1)

    there’s your 5 wins…

    this seems logical af…

if we can’t go 5-2 down the stretch …………….wtf

  23. FirstTimePoster Says:

I HATE RedZone! Had to be said. I do feel bad for people with ADD though.

  24. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Adam…..you smoking 🚬 crack!!!!

…..you obviously haven’t been a longtime Bucs fan and don’t understand this team’s Culture…..and that’s one of losing and underachieving.

  25. Trask To The Future Says:

    FREE KYLE TRASK!

So dumb that they won’t let Trask play. This season is toast. No reason to keep playing Mayfield. NONE.

I mentioned this before the season as our WORST CASE SCENARIO and now here we are… the worst thing that could happen would be for Mayfield to play “okay” but not great. Now the Bucs will be forced to give this guy $20M+/year for 3 years.

Trask still has a year remanining on a cheap rookie deal. Why not let Trask play and see what he can do? If he stinks it up, then you go all in on drafting a QB high in the draft whether you have to pull a trade, etc.

Not playing Trask to see what he can do with some full NFL starts under his belt is just DUMB. It will be one of the dumbest decisions in Bucs history, and that’s saying a lot.

Don’t worry Traskies! He’ll get his start. Last game of the season so Baker can rest up for the playoffs.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Awesome – means I can watch RedZone undisturbed until 4p.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If the Bucs don’t lose this game they are idiots.

The Panthers are in the running for the #1 pick. We can hurt them more…and help ourselves more by losing.

Unless we want to face the top pick…

After watching Bowles for 1.5 seasons, I don’t see 5 wins in there. IMO it’s more like:
    -Split Carolina (1)
    -Agree, split NO ATL (1)
    -Lose to Colts
    -Lose to Jax
-On the Fence about GB, gut says loss

That’s 2-5. Maybe we pull out one more between IND/JAX/GB and hit 3-4. Prove me wrong, Bucs!

  31. Larrd Says:

They knew they would los that time slot no matter what. Better to have stronger games early.

  32. Larrd Says:

I think the panthers traded their pick for last year’s Slam Dunk No. 1 Pick Bryce Young?

Fun to laugh now, but going all in like that whether through blockbuster trades or giving up on wins is what loser franchises do.

  33. Tony Says:

    @TampaBayBucsFan

Well then you need to get season tickets.

  34. Tbbucs3 Says:

Bonzai and Munsh seem to be longing for another decade of irrelevance….

Like Larrd said, tanking fails WAY more often than not and anytime you have a chance to win the division you do it even if your unlikely to win the Superbowl.
I’d rather win get in the playoffs to attract some key free agents then reload instead of rebuild.

If you aren’t aware Bonzai, the Panthers tanked and likely set their franchise back for many years….they are insanely bad 10 times worse than the Bucs….what kind of sad loser would want to lose to that dumpster fire?

  35. Crickett Baker Says:

    Right on TBBF! Be safe.

  36. adam from ny Says:

    guys — i wasn’t saying i predict a 5-2 finish ^^^^^

i was just giving a best case scenario to go something like 5-2….

realistically we’ve been rocking many clunkers…

in fact we specialize in back to back clunkers these days…

    it’s how we do!

    a 5-2 finish would be a heck of a turnaround…

but i see us more likely going 3-4 or 4-3 given the current status quo…

it’s a relatively easy schedule to fin out, so we should be able to stumble into 3 wins…

i have us at least splitting the final 4 in division games…that’s 2 wins…

and i have us winning 1 of the 3 out of division games…that’s 3 right there…

now if we win 2 of the out of division games and win one more in division game, we are at 5-2…

so it’s not that far fetched………….

    possibilities guys……………..possibilities

  37. rickym Says:

FREE KYLE TRASK. Remember how dumb the Steelers were in the 70’s when they didn’t listen to their fans and didn’t replace Terry Bradshaw with Joe Gilliam? Totally dumb move by the Steelers. These dumb coaches would be much better off by letting the fans make decisions. Imagine how many superbowls the steelers could have won if they would have only listened to the fans and benched that bum Bradshaw.

  38. Wild Bill Says:

I don’t mind if the Bucs lose as long as they play up to their ability. No shame in losing to a better opponent as long as you have given your best effort and played to the max ability. This season the Bucs have stumbled and bumbled like a creature with no brain, no consistent performance, no sense of confident dentity. It is hard to watch . Time to clean house and replace the entire coaching staff and most of the poorest performing players .

  39. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

GRAB HENDERSON OFF WAIVERS FROM THE RAMS ( DUMP KESHAWN VAUGHN)..KEEP FIGHTING TO GET BETTER & MORE CONSISTENT..WE HAVE THE RECIEVER’S & THE QUARTERBACK TO GET THEM THE BALL..WITH A LITTLE MORE HELP FROM THE RUN GAME & BOWLES BEING MORE CONCERNED WITH HIS DEFENSE &LESS CANALES OFFENSE, THIS TEAM ACTUALLY HAS A CHANCE TO WHIND UP A DIVISION WINNER & HOSTING ANOTHER PLAYOFF GAME THIS YEAR..BOWLES & CANALES : IF I WERE YOUR DR.,I WOULD SUGGEST TAKING AN ENEMA & FLUSH OUT YOUR SYSTEMS ( THE WHOLE COACHING STAFF FOR THAT MATTER )..BRING IN HENDERSON FOR DEPTH & AND SOME FRESH BLOOD INTO THE RB ROOM..MAYBE THE TIME IS JUST RIGHT TO GO ON A WINNING STREAK..YOU THINK ? ? ?

  40. ScottyMack Says:

It is what it always was going to be (if not a little more than most folks expected). Why not just watch, root for your team, hope for the best and see what happens? I just know that I am happy that the Bucs have given me a reason to watch and hope virtually every week.

Unless we want to face the top pick…”

Except that the brain trust in Carolina traded it to Chicago (along with another 1st, 2 2nds and DJ Moore) for the privilege of selecting Bryce Young – and people here think Licht is bad…not only did they get bent over, they picked the wrong QB.

That team is gonna be in the toilet for a long time.

  42. ScottyMack Says:

Bad news for the Bucs. The one big advantage the Bucs have on teams is the one o’clock afternoon heat. That, and the Bucs haven’t worn a game this season that wasn’t at 1:00 pm.

  43. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Look at the top QBs in the league right now…and look how their teams acquired them.

Tanking works, regardless of the claims of some.

Is it fair? Maybe not. But the Panthers are certainly doing it, and they are going to end up with Caleb because of it. Unless we throw the two games we play them.

I do not personally want to face Caleb twice a year. This is about strategy.

    Cost them the #1 pick.
Get ourselves a slightly higher pick.

If you can’t see the logic in that, then you are as dumb as Bowles.

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    StormyInFl Says:
“Except that the brain trust in Carolina traded it to Chicago”

Oh, well I didn’t know that. In that case…winning the game hurts the Panthers fans more.

So it just comes down to draft position for us then.

To help our draft status, keeping Mayfield in is smart…since he’s a loser…but we still need to know what trask can actually do.

  45. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Tbbucs3,

For someone who doesn’t seem to like me…you sure do seek out my posts a lot. I’m starting to feel stalked. If that is how you get your jolly’s go for it…but I don’t swing that way.

  46. Arians4President Says:

There’s definitely some factor in this CBS/Fox thing that we aren’t aware of to have Bucs-Panthers flexed.

I know there is usually a combined 3 games on local television among the 1pm and 4 pm games. If Fox has 2 (both 1pm and 4pm), than CBS usually shows one, and vice versa.
Is this a week where CBS has both a 1pm and 4pm game broadcasted in both markets? If so, maybe they didn’t want any good games to lose potential viewers sitting in the 4pm slot, because Fox’s matchup will dominate.

Not even sure if I make sense, but just a thought…

  47. OLDE pfart Says:

Time to test Trask……reasons stated by several above…..smart money decision must be made to plan for next year and only game day performance will enable them to decide…..PLUS…..LET THE COACHES KNOW THE DEFENSE CAN PLAY MAN TO MAN….NOT ZONE…… The first replacement needed is a new coach!
