“And He Looks 21”

January 3rd, 2023

Mike Evans

Bucs edge rusher Carl Nassib has unique perspective on the Tampa Bay roster since he was a 2019 team captain who left after that season in free agency before returning in August.

He also was a Bucs starter during the 2018 Dirk Koetter regime, saw the culture transformation to Bucco Bruce Arians and then re-landed in Tampa with Tom Brady trying to win the Bucs another Super Bowl.

Nassib told the Buccaneers Radio Network this week that he’s been impressed by Mike Evans (who isn’t?), and thinks Evans has found an ageless formula.

“He’s been killing it for nine years and I’m just happy that he’s still crushing it. And he looks 21 still, you now what I mean?” Nassib said. “The guy is inspirational and he’s a great teammate.”

Evans, 29, doesn’t appear to have lost a step. Sure, he gets banged up like most physical receivers and isn’t always 100 percent, but Joe isn’t seeing a significant dropoff in ability. In fact, Evans looks crazy fit and he’s often seen talking to Tom Brady’s personal fitness guru, Alex Guerrero, on the Bucs’ sidelines.

It’s very encouraging to Joe to see how committed Evans and Chris Godwin, 26, are to their bodies. It bodes well for them staying in their primes for at least a few more years.

Tom Brady has to see that. And hopefully he appreciates that he might not find trusted and committed warriors to the same degree elsewhere, guys with which he has three years of chemistry.

Evans never was a flat-out burner. And once he got over his bouts with Offense Pass Interference, he has become among the league elite. And now that Chris has returned to form, the only other big questions marks are number three receiver and TE’s. If we can solve that, and Ryan comes back to lead the line, it could very well lead to brighter days on the horizon very shortly.

  2. CrackWise Says:

Mike Evans has made a career out of making BAD QBs look ALL PRO. Not a knock-on Brady though, just FACTS about Mike Evans! Just Throw the Man the Damm Ball, HE IS ALWAYS OPEN!!!

HOF first Ballot if he (Mike) carry’s the Bucs to another Super Bowl win this year!!!

  3. CrackWise Says:

How many big plays has Otton had called back. I can think of 3 including this last game.

I think if Tom decides to come back. He is going to look at TE and say, we are good, and Otton will have a FANTASTIC 2nd year!

Only knock on him will be, he aint Gronk.

  4. CrackWise Says:

One other thing about Mike. If you watch him run you don’t think he is that fast. BUT when you really focus on him. He is Always running by dudes, he is sneaky fast, he just doesn’t juke very well. In fact, I always get a good laugh out of watching him try to juke.

Mike has been my favorite Buc ever since Ronde retired.

  5. Beej Says:

3 more seasons and he’ll beat Rice in thousand yard seasons, that has to be on his mind

  6. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Looks 21?
Sure, if you don’t notice the receding hair line and bald spot.
    😀

  7. CrackWise Says:

    Beej

And you know he can do it regardless of who is QB is. Although, I think Mike and Kyle will be an excellent combo. Kyle throws a pretty deep ball and Kyle is not afraid to give his guys a chance.

He literally made Pitts and Tony into superstars. Before Kyle, both were afterthoughts on BAD GATOR teams.

Not that Pitts and Tony are bad. They just needed a QB that gave them opportunities. Kyle is gonna be a decent QB and Mike, CG, RG and Otton are going to make him look REALLY good IMHO

  8. destinjohnny Says:

if we can just get Brady a line he would stay.
no qb wants to play behind the worst line in the NFL

  9. CrackWise Says:

    DoooshLaRue

LMAO, I thought the same thing. Made me wonder about Nassib’s “unique perspective” as Joe put it.

  10. #8's Ghost Says:

    Harbaugh to Bucs.
    Gronk to Bucs.
    Suh to Bucs.

  11. NEfan Says:

Crackhead@ I thought you opted to hide in your bunker since N. Korea is expanding their nuclear arsenal.

  12. Not Joe Says:

Did Joe forgot the last 15 games of the season? Did Joe forgot all of the bad press about Mike Evan’s play? 3 plays in a game does not make up for 15 3/4 bad games. gee. it’s like everyone here has rose colored glasses on. Let’s not be ridiculous. Evans was on the cusp of 1,000 yards before Sunday for a reason. His best year? No. But that doesn’t mean he was the sole cause or that his skills have diminished significantly. If you remember, Evans had the dropsies early in his career but got past them. Every game counts, last Joe checked. –Joe
i expect this cheerleader BS from the bucs official site, but her too? really?

  13. BucsfanFred Says:

I think TB and ME just got into a funk. What is a funk? It’s an almost indefinable idiosyncrination. It’s not exactly a legal Scrabble word, but it’s the best I can describe it.

Seems like they’re back on track now. If they bracket Mike, Cris and Julio and maybe, just maybe Russel Gage.

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Tom Brady well certainly consider staying with the Bucs.

He has developed a very strong relationship with many of the players and all of them on the offense will be back f0r 2023.

We have no idea if other teams have a strong interest in a 46 year old….even if it’s Tom Brady….

The proximity to his children is important to him.

I think if he plays, he stays.

  15. BucsfanFred Says:

Who knows, we may have a Scottie or Devin sighting.

  16. BucsfanFred Says:

Tampabaybucsfan: I hope you are right.

  17. Redeemer Says:

When Evans was drafted, I wasn’t a fan. I thought he was nothing more than a big jump ball guy, with little skill. I couldn’t have been more wrong. He’s a consumate pro. A tireless worker, and a fabulous teammate by all accounts. What he does in the community is commendable as well. Brady loves him for a reason. He’s not the fastest, not a tremendous route runner, but his work ethic is what separates him.

  18. BucsfanFred Says:

    The Raiders may want him.

  19. BucsfanFred Says:

    The Broncos too.

  20. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey DoooshLaRue, I am 57 6’4 225 I have hair below my shoulder blades, with no receding hairline or bald spot. How about you?

  21. unbelievable Says:

    LOFL at “Not Joe”

I guess Evans was supposed to throw the ball to himself in the end zone?

  22. Bojim Says:

I think TB may stay if we at least get to the SB. But I may not know sht.

    __________

    I’m 54, 5′-9″, 185 lbs.
    No baldness or follicle recession.
Blonde hair, blue eyes……. and I like long walks on the beach and puppies.

    How bout you?

  25. Bucsfan13 Says:

I’ve heard Godwin talk about “pliability.” Brady is a health nut. He went on an epic rant of his podcast about discipline and being healthy.

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Some mocks have Raiders taking Levis at #8 or 9.

They could take Brady for a couple of years while their young QB develops….

But….I think Brady going to Vegas doesn’t make as much sense as him staying here….

Carr is a pretty good QB and couldn’t win with that team….

  27. NEfan Says:

    Rusty or should I say Fabio? 6’4″ 61yrs 270 with a 34″ waist, unfortunately I’m bald with a goatee.

  28. BucU Says:

Love Mike but I’m a bigger Godwin fan. He always has to do the dirty work. Work ethic second to none.
He’s even better off the field. We’re lucky to have them both.

  29. Redeemer Says:

    I’m 78. 4’7″ 435 pounds. Children Behave!!

  30. Kentucky Buc Says:

Didn’t know JBF doubled as a dating site. The more you know.

  31. DoooshLaRue Says:

    I’m sending Redeemer a wink……. he thick!

  32. NEfan Says:

    Deemer has a 28″ waist

  33. SlyPirate Says:

    #8’s Ghost …

    Harbaugh – Yes, please.
Gronk – If we have TB12, of course.
Suh – Nope. Dude is washed.

  34. Rayjay1122 Says:

I hope TB12 plays in Tampa at least long enough to wear a cream sickle jersey.

  35. Crickett Baker Says:

Doosh, you made me LOL. TBBF I agree with you regarding Brady IF he doesn’t retire. On his Letsgo podcast, he seemed to be getting more comfortable with the retirement option, though. Nassib thinks you age backward if you join the Bucs. 😀

  36. catcard202 Says:

Why does every article really dial down to slurping at the TB12 alter???

Due is washed & no better than a mid-level game manager, at this point in his career. His grecian formula, non-inflammatory diet & low level hgh shots can only disguise his midlife crisis & floundering play for so long…He’s not going to be better at 46/47.

In wk17, he finally found a rhythm with ME…Great! But I seriously doubt that carries over to wk18 or into the playoffs. I mean put things in perspective…The Bucs have not won three in a row all year. If they beat Atlanta next week in Atlanta it would be the first three game win streak of the season.

  37. kyle Says:

man catcard^^ tell us how you really feel?? ahahah

  38. TF Says:

I think this maybe the last year Evans get his 1,000. With a switch at QB, Godwin, the running backs duo and Otton I don’t see it happening. Even with 17. Unless we get a veteran like Carr, Minshew, etc. I don’t see Trask in any way shape or form the guy to get it done. Another note, With the evolution of the passing offenses and the longer schedule, Mike’s record will be topped by 4 or 5 WRs in 10 years. Records are meant to be broken. But enjoy it

  39. CrackWise Says:

    NEfan

Thank you for your kind words. It’s a great point in case to why you shouldn’t “think”.

  40. AbucAway Says:

Don’t worry fellas. You all look 21 to nassib

  41. catcard202 Says:

Don’t get me started… Just tired of the constant TB12 pandering when the guy lead this team to an 8-8 record with the top 10 defense backing him up & keeping the low scoring Bucs O in games long enough for TB12 to garner all the praise for late game heroics. When in reality, if not for the top 10 defense the Bucs are probably 4-12 right now.

  42. Redeemer Says:

Cat, don’t get me started either. If Brady goes to a system with a coordinator who can actually scheme guys open, he may look better next year. Don’t tell me Miami or LV isn’t a better fit. If he’s quarterbacking the 49ers this year, IMO they’re undefeated. He’s asked to do way too much here. He isn’t the guy can carry a team to a Superbowl anymore. That doesn’t mean he’s washed.

  43. NEfan Says:

Cathcard@ is really Anonymous, I’d say Oralbuc, Lamucas or oneilsuckyall but his post was too well written.

  44. catcard202 Says:

My opinions are my own…40+ yrs of following the Bucs might make me a bit jaded, but that don’t mean I’m wrong.

  45. ModHairKen Says:

For those that say Evans was never a “burner,” what the hell are you talking about? The guy beats the trash out of everyone. Sunday was one of the greatest WR performances on team history.

  46. Brandon Says:

    Doosh,

I had a receding hairline at 21, started shaving my head at 28… for the record, 5’9 199 lbs of twisted steel and sex appeal.
