A Bright Spot From 2022: Rachaad White

Future backfield star?
Joe hates to type it, but just from the names of the first few guys rumored to be linked to the Bucs in their search for a new offensive coordinator, Joe has the dreaded feeling this team will become a ground-and-pound team.
If that does happen to transpire, Nick Shook of NFL.com thinks the Bucs have the back already in pace, Rachaad White.
Bucs running backs didn’t really do squat this season. But White, per Shook, did enough to look like he has a nice future.
… it found another quality runner in its backfield. Amid the frequent consternation regarding the Bucs’ struggles, did anyone notice when White took Leonard Fournette’s job? It happened in Week 10, the Munich game played against the Seahawks, when White rushed 22 times for 105 yards and helped Tampa Bay sneak past Seattle, 21-16. From there, he started every remaining game, and while he didn’t put up great numbers, he posed a greater threat than Fournette and carries more future value at the position. It was a tough year in Tampa and there weren’t many Bucs candidates for this list, but I like White’s potential. The rookie showed he can be a viable NFL back.
If anything was clear, it was that failed offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich simply didn’t know how to scheme a running game. The Bucs were dead-last in the NFL in yards rushing and yards per carry.
So since Joe has the shakes thinking about the Bucs going ground and pound, perhaps White has a breakout season in 2023?

They shouldn’t have let Ronald Jones walk, he was a very good pure runner, it’s the blitz pick up and blocking he failed at but he could have opened things up for the offense if he was here this season. I do see White improving he needs to hit the whole with more power, he should hit the weights this offseason.

He probably would have had 100 total yards with KC, but he kept stepping out of bounds, 1 yard short of the sticks.

I like White but I still think we need someone with a bit more speed and wiggle to compliment him. He’s not a threat to out run many people but I do think he’ll be a good back for us.

Kid is definitely a keeper, patient runner, good hands, learning to pass block better

Three bright spots from this season for me:
1) Lenny serving Parsons a rump-roast.
2) White throwing a guy outta the club.

With an o-line who run blocks like the play is a pass, the only thing Blowes will pound will happen by himself in private.

RoJo began to be a serious good downhill runner at the end, yet was not used at all. White gets through for a couple sometimes, but like Lenny, usually gets stuffed at LOS. He took Lenny job because of injury than lead the worst run game in the league.
Camarda is the bright spot of 2022. Gotta boot and maybe held three guys or more from taking it to the house. Great choice by Licht.

I don’t know where J03 gets the idea that the OC candidates look like “ground and pound”… Kubiak is a passing game coordinator, McCardell is a receivers coach. Cooter is a passing game coordinator. Patullo is the Eagles passing game coordinator. Where’s the ground and pound? Methinks this is just the usual reflexive negativity because it’s not a big name. Boo hoo.

Slow Mo Rachaad is no savior. No amount of conflating will make it so.
To be charitable, he is a certain kind of back only suited to a certain environment. he is not explosive or quick, not a powerful back or tackle breaker,a long strider who takes a long time to gather a head of steam. He is high runner, and is taken down more easily than he should. He is best as a gadget, a pass catcher on bubbles and screens who needs open field and, most importantly, a blocking scheme and an offense with a lot of motion. At best, a #3, a marginal #2 in the right system.
He is not a good fit for this team, which needs badly to have a feature back of much greater ability. He was a reach, and now it is stuck with him.

White made some really good runs especially considering the line that was “blocking” for him. And he showed decent pass catching ability. I thought he was one of the few bright spots in an overall lousy run team.

White is a keeper, can’t stand how Lenny stutter steps, doesn’t he know that slows him down? Looks like the Roadrunner, running in place going no where. Rojo is a bust, can’t block, can’t catch and no heart. Selling cars in 2 years.

Lefty had a “run game coordinator” and “o-line coach” that have so far been retained by Bowles and the Bucs. I use “quotes” because they failed miserably at devising a run game. Enough with the injuries excuse. Total lack of creativity from those two, working alongside Leftwich was a joke, so I blame Leftwich but he’s not alone and took the fall for these two clods.

Run game coordinator doesn’t mean a damn thing if Leftwich doesn’t call the right plays.
Goodwin is a good coach with a solid reputation. He bears no responsibility for the sh!tty playcalling.
