“Sneaky” Shot At Season Award

May 5th, 2022

Bucs DT Logan Hall.

Attention: Gamblers. This may be worth examining.

Though the Bucs traded back into the second round to nab defensive lineman Logan Hall for their first pick of the 2022 draft, one national columnist believes the Bucs might have selected a guy who will get hardware after the season.

Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports is very high on Hall. In fact, Trapasso believes Hall is a “sneaky” good bet to win Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Logan Hall, DT (Round 2, No. 33 overall)
Honorable mention: Zyon McCollum, CB

The tall, long, penetrating Hall next to Vita Vea in Tampa Bay. My goodness. Unfair. Hall was tied with Devonte Wyatt as my No. 1 interior defensive lineman this class mostly because of how dynamic he is out of the gates and his tremendous pass-rush move arsenal. Hall is a sneaky good pick for Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022.

Though this would be cool as heck, Joe has a hunch this award would go to a linebacker or a corner. Someone that makes a lot of splash plays. The thing that gets Joe excited is if Hall wins this award, that means he is sacking quarterbacks.

Out of curiosity, Joe checked out the odds on Bovada — strictly for entertainment purposes — Hall’s odds of winning Defensive Rookie of the Year are at +6000. This means if you place a $100 bet on Hall and he wins, you will pocket $6000.

It is said that the Bucs felt that Logan Hall had the best inside pass rush moves of all the players they were considering.

I watched a few of his Senior Bowl 1 on 1 reps, and he was pretty impressive with his ability to win and get in the backfield.

  3. Bojim Says:

By the time the season starts he’ll have put on at least 10 pounds of muscle. I liked the pick.

Likely in a rotation…..but still has a chance to shine…….the defensive rookie of the year will likely go to a CB.

Best case in my opinion, is Logan Hall can develop and be a Cameron Heyward type presence at DT. Heyward has arguably been one of the most productive(and valuable) DTs in all the NFL the last 3-5 seasons and managed to stack 43 sacks from the IDL in that span. I like that comp just as much as the Gholston comp because it proves, guys of their stature can really provide you with different styles of play attacking the pocket and filling rushing lanes. Excited for rookie camp to start so we can get the first glimpses of where/how Hall is being tested by our staff.

Just so you are all aware out of the last 10 years 5 of the DROY awards went to DL. So really the odds are good for a DL to make it.

Maybe Zyon will be the true gem? We need both of them to do well for sure. Will be fun to watch it play out.

I understand the easy option to pick Chase Young in 2020, but Antoine Winfield Jr. deserved the DROY! Not only very impressive stats for a rookie but such huge plays at key times. Even with a Pro Bowl in 2021, he is extremely underrated in my book.

I don’t know but it would be awesome. What I do know is VEA, JTS, Hall, and Shaq looks like the making a heck of a defensive line for years.
