Justin Evans Returns … In New Orleans

April 4th, 2022

This would be such a feel-good story if it didn’t involve the slimy Saints.

The Bucs safety who picked off Tom Brady back in 2017, then-rookie Justin Evans, dealt with myriad injuries to his foot/ankle injuries during his first two seasons and never played again.

Tampa Bay finally waived him with an injury designation late in 2020 and he was off the NFL radar last season. Now, 26-year-old Evans has reached an agreement to join the Saints, per ProFootballTalk.com.

It’s a chance for Evans to revive his career, much like the Saints tried with another oft-injured Bucs second-round pick: Noah Spence from the 2016 class. That didn’t work and Spence spent all last season on the Bengals’ practice squad.

Evans may be best known in Tampa as the guy the Bucs drafted instead of Alvin Kamara when they desperately needed a running back.

Joe wishes Evans good health, though Joe can’t wish success for any Saints player.

Wouldn’t you normally consider this a camp meat story?

  2. BuxfaninTX Says:

Maybe the Saints can go get Kendall Beckwith too….

  3. sasquatch Says:

If he’s fully healthy, he’s still young enough and had plenty of talent. I feel like he owed the Bucs an effort to return in Tampa after they paid him to rehab for a few years. Bucs could still use a safety. Wonder if that happened and they passed.

  4. SufferingSince76 Says:

Looks like the Saints are picking through the Bucs’ leftovers again.

I’m on here too much and for too long when I know exactly which Joe this is because of the following line.

Joe can’t wish success for any Saints player

  6. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

I wonder what Kendall Beckwith is up to. I would take a flyer on that kid. He had tremendous upside before he hurt himself. Was it a car accident? Bum foot?

  7. Crickett Baker Says:

I used to like the Saints but NOT ANYMORE.

  8. Elita Vita Says:

Seems like the Saints are planning big things (ie) especially when considering that trade of draft picks they did with the eagles today. Are they after a particular quarterback?

These are my exact thoughts. Would have liked to see him back on our roster.

@Cricket. If that’s true, you may visit but you may not stay.

Joe I love how much you hate the saints. I do too. I hate all the other nfc south teams but I have zero respect for those guys. 2020 nfc divisional eh boys! Who dat STFU

  12. bucs Win Says:

I bet he gets turf toe at their first OTA

  13. Tony Says:

Where were they when we needed them to take Daquan Bowers & Gaines Adams from us?

  14. Joe Says:

Was it a car accident? Bum foot?

He had his ankle shattered from the wreck. Never fully recovered.

  15. Aaron Says:

Lol maybe Shady brady will wanna end his career with us Lol but that isn’t happening we don’t want him done sweep shutout him what else is there

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

I give Evans an A for Af-fort but..He done. He’s going to just further punish his body for good. Good luck to him though.

  17. TampabayDJ82 Says:

@Aaron – You know they have a spell correct device on most phones right ? Or are you just Forrest Gump in disguise 🥸? Please stop writing on here man nobody wants to read the garbage you have crammed in your head or should I say butthead.. Go Bucs

  18. SPARKY Says:

I might come off as kinda jerk here, but is there any chance his mother is Linda Evans? If so, than tell him to look around for naked pictures of his mother. Other wise, I could give a rats a$$.

  19. lambchop Says:

The Saints are going after WR in this draft with the draft trade with the Iggles. I can foresee the Saints dumping Slant Boy. I’m not suggesting we pick him up, he’s trash. I just anticipate one of their first Rd picks will be a WR.

  20. Goatfarmer Says:

He was awesome when healthy. I understand why the Bucs had to waive him, also cheering for him to be good again — except twice a year .

Some bozo will blame Arians for foring him out along with Kendall Beckwith and Paris Warren. Arians can’t develop injury prone players!

  21. adam from ny Says:

i wonder if evans got a 2020 superbowl ring?

and beckwith was a young bucs tackling beast – shame how that ended

  22. catcard202 Says:

Good for him…Now let’s see if he can stick.

  23. Bojim Says:

    Wow. Good luck.

  24. Tbbucs3 Says:

No need to keep an injury prone mediocre safety to linger on the Bucs roster.

  25. Bucsfan4ever Says:

    I wish him well
Always liked the kid, but he’s fragile.

  26. Buczilla Says:

The Saints currently now have two of our former busts. On a human level, I’m happy for Justin, but football wise I wish him nothing but losses and utter misery.

  27. Anonymous Says:

And who drafted Evans over Kamara?

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The Saints could also make a run at Carl Nicks….perhaps his toe has finally healed and he can play for them again.

  29. westernbuc Says:

Hate that he’s a saint but rooting for him. Guy looked like he was for real before he was hurt. Happy for him and Jameis’s success (except when they play us)

  30. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Buczilla

Jameis is not a “bust” FYI

  31. Bradinator Says:

Alvin “Assault and Battery” Kamara? Let’s see how many games he plays this year. Kamara fell into the 2nd round due to “character concerns”. Everyone else passed on him too, until the Aint’s in Rnd 2. Hindsight is always 20/20. Good Luck to Evans, I really hope he can revive his career. It’s a Shame it isn’t happening here though.

  32. Buczilla Says:

    @Tbbucs3

A player that you drafted number one overall and don’t sign to a second contract is the very definition of a bust. I used to love Jameis and figured a dude with that much talent, grit, and charisma would never fail. Unfortunately, I was wrong and Jameis wasted five years of our football lives just like Vinny back in the day.

  33. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Did anyone say Nowhere Spence?
