“He’s Learned How To Play Injured”

January 26th, 2021

Joe loves seeing Aaron Rodgers in the background walking away in disbelief

Last month, when a lot of Bucs fans already had turned on cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, Joe decided to cut the second-year man slack because of telling comments from Bucco Bruce Arians.

Arians is old school. He wants and expects guys to play through injuries if they are cleared by doctors to be on the field.

That kind mentality is not for every player and, per Arians, there are position-group trends when it comes to a man-up mindset.

Last night on Buccaneers Radio, Arians talked about Murphy-Bunting’s battle through a groin injury and more.

“He got his swagger back about midseason,” Arians said. “He’s played really well. He’s beat up, too.”

“He’s learned how to play injured. That’s a really hard thing for corners, when they’re beat up they don’t” like to play.

Three playoff games are in the books and Murphy-Bunting has an interception in each one. Rondé Barber never did that. If Murphy-Bunting makes it four in a row, don’t be surprised if the Pro Football Hall of Fame comes calling for his cleats and game jersey.

If Ryan Fitzpatrick is honored there for becoming the first quarterback to throw for 4oo-plus yards in three consecutive games, then this potential Murphy-Bunting mark should be worthy.

I’d pay admission into the hall to see that.
    Go Bucs!

  2. Bird Says:

Wow. Another guy that will get two weeks to get healthy. Like having a bye week. He is playing better for sure. Remember brian kelly was toast his first two years. Year 3 he started to ball out.

Our defensive game plan needs to focus on doubling hill and kelce. Easier said then done cause they seem to blow up every game. Lets make the other people on team beat us cause mahommes is a surgeon.

They ran that same play again later in the game and I thought he was gonna pick it again. He turned his head around just a split second too late. I’m betting he gets another one off of Mahomes!!

  4. WiscoJoe Says:

If I remember correctly he almost had one on Mahomes the last time they played but JPP got called for a penalty. I’m thinking SMB might be turning a corner here? *knocks on wood*

  5. Robert Says:

The secondary stepped up. One more game.

    great work fellas…keep it up….

    GO BUCS!!!

There’s ‘team’ game planning, and there’s ‘individual’ game planning.

I think it’s fairly obvious that quite a few of our stars are taking the next step to be prepared and ball out.

  8. SOEbuc Says:

SMB has certainly been coming through at the right moment in the post season. I remember he was tied last year for most rookie INT with three in the regular season.

  9. Aceofaerospace Says:

“Expecting players to play hurt when cleared by the doctors”. Makes me wonder just how injured Jones was. Was he pouting? I have no idea. I hope not. But either way it threw the barn door open for Fournette. I, personally thought that last minute scratch looked very suspicious.

  10. SOEbuc Says:

Bucs defense is red hot and headed to the SB, which is sweet as a skittle, but we still should’ve been playing this man coverage all year with all these DBs that were coached up in college to play press. Hopefully they come out playing man and double team Tyreek from the beginning this time.

Bird … “Our defensive game plan needs to focus on doubling hill and kelce.”

It was interesting to me that in our first meeting this year Hill pretty much had his way with us … FOR ONE QUARTER. Yes, one INCREDIBLE quarter. Yet after that, Bucs did a fairly good job of keeping him under control I thought. The Chiefs offense that game consisted of Hill’s THREE TDs plus 2 Butker FGs. Chiefs scored all but 1 TD in the 1st half (and actually 17 of those pts were in the 1st qtr).

I keep wondering what changes did Todd Bowles make AFTER that 1st half (probably after the 1st qtr in reality) that made such a difference. I mean in the game’s last 45 mins the mighty Chiefs only scored 10 points. Question is … Can our defense replicate that for a full 60 mins in the Super Bowl?

  12. David Says:

It would not surprise me because I expect Shaq & JPP to have a field day since Mahomes can’t step up in the pocket.
I expect the awesome pressure they have been getting to continue.
In fact, I think it’s going to get even better because the KC O-line is not as good as the Saints or the Packers and they have two back up tackles playing.

They just need to contain Mahomes and I think there will be some turnovers waiting for those DB’s

  13. bojim Says:

I was down on him. Dude can play!

  14. lambchop Says:

Still laughing how some fans on here thought he was a bust. SMH.
