Turn To Ground-And-Pound?

October 14th, 2020

Bucs RB Leonard Fournette.

What galled Joe so much about the Bucs losing to the Bears — Jason Pierre-Paul said the Bucs gave the game away — was pulling the plug on the best weapon of the evening.

Ronald Jones was going nuts Thursday on the Bears. But in the fourth quarter, when RoJo seem hottest, the Bucs quit feeding him the ball for reasons not quite clear.

Joe still tosses and turns at night remembering this. It likely cost the Bucs the game.

Joe wonders if the same opportunity to run the ball will develop Sunday when the Bucs host the Packers?

Last year the Cheeseheads were awful in the playoffs trying to stop the run. San Francisco had a bunch of nobodies and they ran over, around and through the Packers. Embarrassingly so.

Now statistically, the Packers have a good run defense. How good remains up for debate.

Consider, the Bucs have allowed 292 yards rushing, that’s ranks No. 2 in the NFL. No. 4 is the Packers  run defense, but it is a big drop off. Green Bay has allowed 423 yards rushing, or 106 yards a game.

With possibly Leonard Fournette returning, could this be a game where the Bucs pound the Packers with RoJo and Fournette, thus keeping the ball out of Aaron Rodgers’ hands?

Also remember, per Wisconsin standards, the current Florida weather is a roasting hot summer. They won’t be used to the heat and humidity, and if the Bucs can pound the ball, it will make the Packers’ defense all the more drained.

Rodgers has a 1-2 record at the Den of Depression.

And these are the reasons why, I still believe the Bucs can beat the Packers. I don’t understand why so many people (the usual negative Nellie’s, you know who they are) are so down on us loosing this game. We’ve kicked better teams in the ass before. They are not invisinble!!……Go Bucs, Puñeta!!

  3. Defense Rules Says:

Yes lamabuc, the Bucs can beat the Packers because we have the weapons to do just that, but not unless our coaching staff stops being so dogmatic. Three changes needed on offense:

1 – Be unpredictable. Run the ball to set up the short pass, then use the short pass to set up the run. Pack’s defense is susceptible to both. Run/Pass ratio should be very close to even on the night.

2 – Forget FGs. Bucs won’t beat the #1 offense in the league by kicking FGs. Unless 4th down is ridiculously long, go for the 1st down if deep in Pack territory. No risk-it, no biscuit.

3 – Stop the run effectively, but use a 3 or 4-man rush most of the time on defense and play a lot more man-to-man to take away the short pass as much as possible. Be more selective & more unpredictable in blitzing.

Packers will almost surely put up 30 points or more, have very few penalties & not turn the ball over, and try to own the clock. It’s up to our offense to put up more points, minimize stupid mistakes, and control the clock. If we do that, we’ve got a decent chance of winning. If we don’t, say hello to 3-3.

I am so sick of hearing every year how the heat and humidity will be an advantage.Northern teams come down here every year innthe summer and shalac us.

This team couldn’t win if it had an all Madden roster….the owners suck and the coaches suck. Its like they are buried on an indian burial ground.

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

Biggest head-scratcher of the game. Football is NOT a complicated sport. When you have an edge, you exploit the edge. There was no reason for Brady to be dropping back 40+ times in that game, especially when the run-game was effective.
These coaches need to stop over-thinking things. Make them stop you,not the other way around. This “passing league” mantra has caused coaches to get too cute.

  6. Hodad Says:

The heat will only make Rodger’s arm warm up quicker Joe! The humidity won’t be covering the Packers receivers, SMB will. His safety help will be caught looking in the back field, and have the ball thrown over his Jordan Whitehead. The heat won’t be playing the humidity. The Bucs will be playing the Packers.

  7. Clean House Says:

The Bucs coaches are a complete joke. Incompetent, and not fit for the job. It’s a disgrace! Rojo could have run for 150 or more.

The “real” fans told the sheep and local media long ago, that the old cheating goat did not come to Tampa to hand the ball off!!!!!!!!!! That he was promised to get his huge passing numbers so he could break the NFL all time passing record!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That the old cheating goat came to Tampa because of passing yards not playoffs and wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the sheep always “realize” too late!!!!!!!!! So, its time for the much requested, “Realist Repost”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You better check your numbers!!!!!!!! Some of the sheep are giving to much credit!!!!!!!!!! And seem to think that Belichick is just some avg coach!!!!!!!!!! And the truth is the old goat is here to throw some passes and try to break the nfl all time passing record!!!!!!!!!! And what will be left behind will be a disaster!!!!!!! Ole stale biscuit will leave a worse mess than the garbage fire he left in Arizona!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy the overhyped season this year, because it will be very rough seas for years to come!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the “no excuse” season of all “no excuse” season!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t buy this whole “heat and humidity advantage” in October. Maybe September, when its in the 90’s and there are no clouds, but upper 80’s with partly cloudy skies sounds like spring break when it’s currently 40’s and rain in Wisconsin.

This is as tired of an argument as the “no state income tax” advantage in free agency in ANY SPORT’S offseason.

“Keeping ball out of Aaron Rodgers hands.”Oh so we’re going to be scared submissive betas now? Sure, a team with more weapons than the Packers should now be frightened of a shootout. Fantastic! If Godwin plays, Evans is close to 100% with extra rest, Scotty Miller and Tyler Johnson looking nice – PLAY YOUR GAME. If Brady wants to start dealing then let him deal.

  11. Ndog Says:

    Brady dealing? That’s hilarious.

    Coaching.

  13. gofortheface30 Says:

Hey Ndog – say hi to Jameis on the bench for me. Seriously, how many rolls of toilet paper do you go through a day every time you think of Winston. Your obsession is disturbing. You’re way too lonely, you need to find a girlfriend

  14. Bradinator Says:

Unless we play MUCH better than last weeks fiasco, we are sunk. Makes me sad. We were talking playoffs and maybe a trip to the Big Dance like a month ago. Now we don’t know if can even compete against the top teams. That pretty much means we aren’t one the top teams. I’ve hated the Packers since I was a little kid, and it would make my whole month if we could beat them. I say pound ’em with RoJo and Fournette. Punch them in the mouth and then start hitting Godwin, Evans, and Miller.

  15. gofortheface30 Says:

Brad – jeez almighty it was one game bra, lets just stop being super dramatic and let go of the PTSD. Dude, we all thought theyd be around 10-6 or 11-5 and not peaking until the end of the yr and now we’re going to act all surprised and suicidal that we’re 3-2. Jesus

  16. FED ( THE FU Says:

we will lose this game badly. Tampa losing last week was huge and we lost Vita for the season, the packers will expose us n run for over 100 yards. Also this game is really gonna tell if our offense is real, can we keep up the scoring, will Godwin ( injury prone ) be available?. Will our pass rush show? i mean they never do when we need them, hell they rater jump offsides. RELEASE DON SMITH….cause trash will always be just that ….TRASH

  17. rrsrq Says:

without Vea to push the pocket, could be a long game up the middle for AR to step up, I see Shaq and JPP coming at AR, best combined game yet for them both is my prediction and D. White comes back into play.

  18. #1bucfan Says:

This will be another good test. Complete game is what we need to win let’s go Bucs
