Miller Time

September 19th, 2020

Chris Godwin’s odds of hitting the field Sunday for a huge division game against the Stinkin’ Panthers appear grim. And Breshad Perriman plays for the Jets.

So up steps the little guy who has won Tom Brady’s heart.

That’s second-year receiver Scotty Miller, and we all remember what Erin Andrews shared about Brady’s affection for the 2019 sixth-round pick.

If Godwin can’t go because of his concussion, then Miller won’t be a complementary piece any longer. He’ll be relied upon to be a true No. 2 receiver against the Panthers, and possibly more if Mike Evans’ healing hamstring isn’t 100 percent.

Joe hopes Godwin can play, but Miller filling in for him is potentially an interesting scenario on multiple levels.

First, Joe believes that without Godwin, the Bucs are more likely to use empty backfields and change their run designs, since Godwin is so involved in the run game. Joe thinks both potential changes would be a good idea.

Second, if Miller can shine on Sunday after a strong opening-day game, it certainly could start to change the organization’s perspective on Godwin’s future. His contract is up after this season.

Lastly, Joe thinks this is a big game for Miller’s confidence. Bucco Bruce Arians talked this week about how much Brady has helped Miller with confidence. If Miller can’t get it done stepping up against second-rate defense, then he might take a healthy step backwards mentally; and Joe believes success could have the opposite effect.

Hopefully, the Bucs will be able to find a rushing attack and not have to rely on Miller too much.

I still want to see Scotty Miller on a jet sweep.

  2. Mort Says:

A good day for an abundance of 12 personnel.

Anyone know the update on Tyler Johnson? I like Miller but he can’t replace a player like Chris Godwin he’s a blocking receiver like former Bucs wr Michael Clayton but the things that set him apart is Godwin has hands, agility, n speed.

we have seen miller on the jet sweep before

the run game has gotta start working well this week…

and evans needs to be a good decoy because he’s not 100%…

we are relying on receivers 3 thru 5 to get it done…

and do we even have a 6th on the squad rn?…

expect evans to play decoy most of the day, but to sneak behind the dbs once for a bomb td…yes!

    ……

also they will call up either tanner hudson or a receive to jump into the 6th position, behind mickens

  6. adam from ny Says:

    receiver*

Somehow, I think Godwin will be cleared….but if not, we need to use our TEs and backs more in the passing game.

  8. Hodad Says:

Watson will replace Godwin in the slot. He has the size BA likes at that position. Miller will have a big hand in the passing game tho. After last weeks showing by Miller everyone in my fantasy league hit the waiver wire looking to snatch him up , to late. I picked him up the minute I heard Evans was dealing with a hammy. I’m starting him this week. Run Scotty run!!

I had wondered same thing, haven’t heard a peep about the kid all camp

How about we mix in some TE’s? How about tossing more to the backs…RO and to an even greater extent Fournette and Shady can all catch the ball.

That’s SIX targets right there without ME…Godwin…Miller or any WR.

  12. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I sure hope Chris Godwin is cleared to play Sunday.

  13. Michael Brudny Says:

Don’t even think about not re-signing Godwin. He is our best offensive player

  14. BigHog Says:

With the profound development of SCOTTY (beam me up) SCOTTY, and that this is his second year in the offense but having to adjust to a new QB….I just imagine what the out come of that Saints game might have been…i.e. Mr. 5000’s arm strength and SCOTTY (beam me up) SCOTTY’s speed…..would have been nice to see those two connect on a few bombs and not just have to listen to F bombs ….her: Wake up honey, lunch is on the way. me: Make mine SHAKEN but not STIRRED!!!….HENNY AND HOG…get yo-self some!!

  15. Bucamania Says:

I keep asking about Tyler Johnson too. Nothing.

It’s too bad about Godwin, but I’m really curious to see how this kid does as a number two.
