Devin White = Derrick Brooks

September 24th, 2020

Fan of another Bucs player.

Before the season, closet Bucs fan Peter Schrager of NFL Network said Bucs linebacker Devin White will be his No. 1 breakout player this season.

Given Schrager’s track record (he picked Pat Mahomes in 2018 and Kyler Murray last year), this was a good omen.

And so far in 2020, White seems to be living up to Schrager’s prediction. After two games, White leads the NFL in tackles with 26, two more than No. 2 Jaylon Smith of the Cowboys. Earlier this week, when speaking of White, Arians said he should get double-digits in tackles each game.

There happens to be someone else whose eye White has caught. Last Sunday, Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre was doing a project with NFL Films and was at the Den of Depression. So, yeah, technically he was working.

He brought along his grandson and Favre told his grandson that White reminds him of a guy who gave Favre bruises in his day, Derrick Brooks.

You can see (and hear) in the NFL Films video below why Favre thinks White is like Brooks.

Now if the Bucs can somehow get Shaq Barrett unlocked, please inform Joe of a better foursome of linebackers than the Bucs have.

Shaw is playing well. No sacks yet but there is a years worth of,film on him. He has to adapt a little, and meanwhile as Joe has said, NO and CAR blanked Shaq last year.

I would imagine the man is just a touch stoked to get some action at Mile High.

  2. Clean House Says:

Cool idea swampbuc, I forgot it was Shaq’s Homecoming- hopefully he has a strong game

  3. Buczilla Says:

Long way to go before he approaches Brook’s level, but you can see that the talent is there. If he compares favorably to Nickerson by the end of the year, I will be estatic.

  4. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Pump the brakes on that just a little bit. Yeah, I love 45 too, but I’m gonna need a much, much bigger sample size.

  5. Mike Says:

If you watch the micd up for week 2 the nfl just put up on you tube, Christian McCaffrey tells Devin that he’s the best in the league.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

White is himself. He will never be DB.

Shaq tends to get his sack in spurts. It’ll come.

Devin White is blazing his own trail.🔥 It is awesome to be mentioned in the same sentence with Derrick Brooks. But here is a thought. What if Devin ends up with 2 NFL player of the year awards. What then lol. Just some fun food for thought. You know that Derrick and Ray Lewis had their own personal contest about winning NFL Defensive Player of the year. I think Ray had 2 and Brooks 1. It is there for the taking Mr White. And I hope he does. BTW Bucs in 1st, Lighting leading 2-1, and the Rays won AL East. This is the best sports record the Tampa Bay area has ever had. GO BUCS-LIGHTNING-RAYS!!!!!

  8. Chris K Says:

But but but but but Josh Allen..

  9. Dougyballs Says:

    Chris k. 🤣🤣🤣🤫🤫🤫🤫😱😱😱🤯🤯🤯

  10. orlbucfan Says:

Bowles’ defense is showing the same patterns that the great Dungy Defense had. It’s still in the early stages but already fun to watch! 🙂

  11. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Gee……

I thought we picked the wrong Devin LB?

I remember hearing how the Steelers got the best Devin LB and we screwed up.

    Imagine that.

  12. Mike Says:

Very impressive to see how he works in traffic! He’s got the speed, vision, tenacity and intelligence to truly be special at the position. He’s well on his way to stardom!

  13. SOEbuc Says:

Undersized??? 6’0″ 237 lbs. He’s never looked undersized to me.

  14. mark2001 Says:

I think DB made it perfectly clear in his show with Ira. He really thinks this kid has an extremely high ceiling. But he still needs to clear up some things in his game, especially in pass coverage. Hard to anoint anyone the next HOF Buc linebacker. But it is obvious that DB really likes the way this kid plays.

  15. View from 132 Says:

I see the comparison, but White is very young and still learning. Give the kid a break. DB55 was an all-time great asked to do ludicrous things like spy Michael Vick. When White takes Lamar Jackson out with one hit to the chest, we can start to make the comparison.

Now all White needs is play at a dominant level for years while some overrated LB in Baltimore has one great season and then barks like a dog until BSPN thinks that guy is the best ever.

  16. mark2001 Says:

And so many hammered his draft pick so vehemently. “WTF are we doing drafting him rather than a DE?”

  17. mark2001 Says:

SOE… that is because you aren’t looking at a guy 6’4″ and 250 or more.

  18. Cobraboy Says:

I, for one, am not at all surprised.

While many cried in their Big Storm Amber Ale because linebackers aren’t supposed to be top-5 picks, I was overjoyed with the White pick.

  19. SlyPirate541 Says:

If you want to compare White’s playing style to all time great, I would say Ray Lewis or Patrick Willis are a better comparisons.

    Man I just shed a tear. Beautiful……
