“Of Course The Best Days Of Tom Brady And Rob Gronkowski Are Behind Them”

May 1st, 2020

Talks Bucs.

Sometimes, Max Kellerman reminds Joe of a bouncer in a Middle Keys bar.

Joe once drove to the Keys for the weekend, arriving early evening en route to Little Torch Key. After checking in to the hotel, Joe wanted to check out a bar at Big Pine Key from a friend’s tip and grab dinner.

Joe shows up, orders food and a beer. The food had yet to be served and Joe hears the bouncer yell “Last call!” WHAT? It’s not even 9 p.m.,” Joe yelped. The bouncer replied, “We close at 9.”

So with Bucs fans and non-Bucs fans alike giddy over Tampa Bay winning the offseason, Kellerman tried to throw ice water on them, like the bouncer yelling “last call” right when Joe got to the bar, well before midnight.

In a recent showing of the notorious “First Take on BSPN,” screamin’ Stephen A. Smith doesn’t believe we’ve seen the best of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski.

Kellerman couldn’t believe what he heard.

“Of course the best days of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are behind them,” Kellerman said holding back a laugh. “Is this a trick question? The best days? Why do you think they are not on the Patriots anymore? You think players with their best days ahead of them, Belichick just says, ‘See you later!’ Of course their best days are being them.”

Joe isn’t sure the Bucs expect the best days from Brady and Gronkowski, but that sure as heck would be a nice present.

What the Bucs want, it seems, is just good enough. If the Bucs get Brady at, say, 90 percent of his best — which may be the best ever — and squeeze 80 percent from Gronk — maybe the best ever — that’s a whole lot better than most mere mortals.

It’s not like the Bucs are getting the second coming of Stewart McClown and Jerramy Stevens.

I mean this is one of those “duh” statements.

Both guys are past their prime, there is no denying that. It’s like you said Joe, we’re hoping they’re still at 90% and that it will equal an improvement over Jameis.

And if not, well it will just be yet another terrible move in the long list of terrible moves by the Glazer children.

At the very least, I think we have way less turnovers.

The biggest question will be how well can our o-line pass protect? Say what you want about Jameis, but he was one of the best when plays broke down and he had to scramble. Brady on the other hand, it typically at his worst when he doesn’t have a clean pocket.

  2. doolnutts Says:

We just need to play smart football and cut down on turnovers. Even if Brady lost a step he did not lose his mind. Godwin thrived last year in the slot I would expect more of the same along with strong TE production. Even if we aren’t throwing huge chunk plays like prior seasons we will still be productive. Brady alone will cut the INT’s/Fumbles to over half which is a winning formula.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

An 80% Brady is better than 30 ints a year.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

As long as you don’t turn it over, dinking & dunking down the field works fine for me…….hit receivers in stride with accurate passes and get more YAC……..you don’t need the long downfield passes….

  5. Allbuccedup Says:

75% Brady and 65% Gronk is better than what we had and also still have.

  6. crazyBucs_CL Says:

everything negative about this FANTASTIC free agency, specially hand picked and posted in this JW site, is good news for us fellas, bucs fans, let them talk ….that is what are left with….. their “super star” JW, is third QB paid $980000 per year….. and that not because he deserve that as player…, just for the books that Payton is hopefully waiting to get…..
welcome Tom and Gronk….this city cant wait to watch you on the field…. we are blessed to have you guys, and NOT to have anymore JW…..

  7. Adrnagy Says:

    Put everything aside.

Brady has something to prove in his mind. Gronk perhaps too. And that is -win without bill.
So for that being said I do believe both can play at a elite level. But at doing so two thing imo. Injury and new team/teammates.

For me it’s how the offense will look or who will run it , and if the team/teammate improve. Bcuz Brady and gronk cannot win it all by themselves.

  8. Craig Says:

They have enough to put on a hell of a show.

More than that, they have the mentality and drive to turn this team around. It is a culture change that turns a team from losing to winning, look at the Dungy and Gruden teams.

Dungy set the team up, but it took Gruden to send it over the wall.

The team is set up and waiting for the thing that can make them winners, Brady and Gronk will do that.

  9. 813bucboi Says:

the thing that im loving about this offseason is finally, we arent talking about the defense….lol….

all this talk about brady and gronk…..

defense will carry us the first half of the year….offense will explode into an unstoppable force in the second half of the year….once playoffs hit, we beating teams up while making history….

    get ready….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  10. WillieG Says:

Brady and Gronkowski will be at 100% mentally and that’s what matters the most.

  11. EA Says:

Tom Brady has a very good shot at hoisting another trophy if he has the right cast around him, heck Peyton Manning won one with a weak arm and neck problems. I really think Brady and the brass of the bucs planned this out for a long time, it was not decided the last day of free agency….come on it is Tom Brady we’re talking about, he’s not gonna all of a sudden decide to retire and pick the bucs out of all the teams 2 days later.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

Brady at his worst is better than ATM at his best.

  13. former patriots fan Says:

You do realize Max made a career out of hot takes against Brady. Kellerman famous prediction of Brady falling off a cliff in 2016

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

We’re all focused on the offense because of the shiny new HOF baubles to go with our pro bowl receivers. New RB’s…continued emergence of ROJO..new stud RT we should actually have a running game.

But it’s not the offense that will win or lose for us. We’ll go as far as our D can take us. I’m as excited as the next guy about TB12 and Gronk and Wirfs etc.

But I do not believe Brady is here to carry us…other than establishing a better culture and showing leadership. The major improvement that Brady immediately brings is that he won’t LOSE games for us!!! And THAT is a significant improvement over the past five years. I don’t look for Brady heroics just solid play.

I look for the heroics to come from our unheralded defense. By the end of the year some of these guys will have major reps and LVD will finally get his props.

Winfield ran a 4.45 40 at the Combine claimed he’s faster but had his pro day at Minnesota cancelled by the Covid.

Still imagine…a wild 4.45 40 roaming around the back end with a beastly 4.42 filling the middle. The guts of this defense could turn out to be something truly exciting.

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

LOL, Max Kellerman a Bouncer ?
He is much too small to be an effective bouncer, however, if you tried him, you could be extremely sorry. He was a pro boxer, and I am quite sure he will still take your head off.
However, what you want in a Bouncer is the Intimidation that comes with size, size Max Kellerman does not have.

If the Brady and Gronkowski experiment does not work out, Tampa may become known as The Land Of Losers, where formerly great players and coaches come to get their last big payday.
As a Buc’s fan, I am hoping we go to the Super Bowl this year, but I still have those visions of Brady being under constant pressure, because we are unable to pick up the Blitz.

  16. Pewter Power Says:

There is no opinion more irrelevant in all of sports than Max Kellerman.

  17. Youngbucs Says:

This guy has been saying this for 10 years and Brady shuts him up everytime lol. I mean it’s gonna happen at some point it happens to everybody duh

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Not only are Gronk’s and Brady’s best days behind them, They will play average or slight above average for the Bucs. Why not bulk millions out of a team who is desperate on your way out of the door. We got a 2 yr window with Brady. Even less with Gronk. He ain’t played a complete season since 2022//LOL. I just think all this desperation is gonna come back and bite us hard. Hope not. But this is what I’m feelin.

  19. Joe Says:

You do realize Max made a career out of hot takes against Brady.

LOL No, didn’t know that. 🙂

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

Don’t matter Joe. I’m a Bucs fan for life. But I just not buyin the way past prime hype of brady and Gronk. But thanks for letting me voice my opinions . I’m usually right..about my beloved franchise. Just think we made a classic mistake out of desperation. And who knows. I might be wrong. As a fan, I truly hope I am.

  21. SOEbuc Says:

Haha. Yeah the Patriots close to being at the bottom of the barrel in cap space didn’t have anything to do him not retiring in New England.

  22. crazyBucs_CL Says:

here is the NEW leader of buccaneers….taking time to congratulate his new draftees team mates….
    …that is what Wirfs says:

“He messaged me on Instagram and said he was excited to get to work with me and I kind of said the same thing back,” said Wirfs, the Iowa right tackle now tasked with protecting Brady. “That was pretty crazy. I actually didn’t even see it. I left him on delivered for like 16 hours. It felt pretty cool. I showed my roommate, my best friend, and he took a picture of it on his phone”.

great to have you here Tom….

  23. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

Does everyone think that it’s only Brady & Gronk on the Buccaneers this coming season? Given the QB that we had for 5 years, that is now claiming He’ll beat Tampa twice a year, I’ll take Brady at 40% and still give 7 points to the 30 int. Man. It seams the everyone forgets Evans, Godwin, Brate, And the whole Defense. What a stupid conversation this Kellerman had. Brady & Gronk were worth getting just in what wisdom they will impart to our young players. I hope that Joe invites this clown back after the season to impart more of his stupidity.

  24. 541BucsFan Says:

Brady threw for 4K yards last year to a bunch of WR that wouldn’t make our team. His best days are behind him but also consider Brady is getting 2 of the best WRs he’s ever had.

  25. Rayjay1122 Says:

I hope that our rookies contribute and excel because they will get a lot of national exposure in prime time games. Bucs players could become household names. If this experiment goes the way we all, hope and expect that it will go.

  26. Afo Says:

    Max is a 🤡

  27. Bradybru Says:

He is trying to get ratings he’s a talking head, who secretly has a thing for ATM

  28. Of course Says:

    Max kellerman is the worst.
    Can’t stand his voice.
    Such a peckerhead

  29. Doug Says:

Brady is going to prove so many people wrong, he had absolutely no receivers last year. Teams were triple covering Edelman. It’s a complete joke. We have untapped potential in this offense and Brady will bring the best out of all
Of them. Ronald Jones will be a superstar. Our defense will not have to bail out a 30 into quarterback.

  30. Joseph Mamma Says:

I believe Jeremy Stevens is a free agent. We could sign him for pretty cheap.

We could bring back Kellen Winslow too for a reunion. Although his rights would be a little more difficult to secure.

  31. Ocala Says:

    This guy is in extremist

  32. TOM Says:

I’ll roll the dice with Brady & Gronk for the next couple of years over anything we had.
