Best Threesome

November 7th, 2019

2/3 of Bucs’ 3-headed monster.

The Bucs may not have the best quarterback-wide receiver duo in the NFL. There are great ones.

But when it comes to a triangle of passing combos, there is none better than America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

In a feature on NFL.com, Adam Rank decides to rank the top-5 quarterback-wide receiver pairs. No Bucs make the top-5 simply because Jameis has too many targets. So Rank named the Bucs’ trio as the best threesome in the NFL.

Jameis Winston and Mike Evans/Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

They are the best three-person team. Kind of like the NFL’s version of The Shield.

Man, it is hard to argue this. Evans is balling out. Godwin is making Bucco Bruce Arians look like a genius when he was moved to slot before the season. And of course, Jameis is guiding one of the top offenses.

But yeah, Andy Dalton.

Great Trio! But if they realized that OJ Howard could be unstoppable as well they may be able to put more dubs in the board. That’s the only stat that really matters after all.

  2. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Please quit with the Andy Dalton stuff. If Jameis keeps playing like he did against Seattle, he ain’t going nowhere.

  3. Hodad Says:

Wins, and losses, that’s all that matters. I don’t care about anything else. Yes, Jameis will be back no matter what happens the rest of the year. Licht drafted him, they’re tied together, Licht was extended, he isn’t going anywhere neither is Jameis. The Glazers have no desire to field a winner.

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

At 2-6 does it matter? We were a top 5 offense last year and 5-11.
They are good players, given. What GM wouldn’t want these two WRs? For that matter, what QB?

  5. Allbuccedup Says:

Keep losing, keep crying low ticket sales, then move to London.

  6. #1bucsfan Says:

I’m with joe it’s crazy how everyone likes to blame 1 person for all the losses. Take out Winston an put in what ever QB you want an this team is still 5-11. DOESN’T MATTER HOW GOOD THE OFFENSE IS WEN YOUR DEFENSE CANT STOP ANYTHING. PEOPLE DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS NOT OFFENSES. IF THE DEFENSE HELD TEAMS TO 14 pts a game then we have a winning record

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Why would anyone even want to argue that? Jameis is blessed with having TWO of the best receivers in the NFL. Some QBs don’t even have one. Mike has 7 TDs with 842 yds now and Chris has 6 TDs and 774 yds. Mike has raised his catch percentage to 60% (50 catches on 83 targets) and Chris is up to 75% (54 catches on 72 targets). All those stats are incredible for TWO receivers at the midway mark of the season.

Now add in 4 more ‘targets’ for Jameis. Cam Brate has 2 TDs with 151 yds and a catch% of 75% (15 catches on 20 targets). OJ has 0 TDs with 176 yds and a catch% of 72% (13 catches on 18 targets). RoJo has 0 TDs receiving with 124 yds and a catch% of almost 73% (8 catches for 11 targets). And Dare leads the RBs in passing yardage with 0 TDs receiving but 145 yds and a catch% of 72% (18 catches on 25 targets).

So WHY does our starting QB have a completion percentage of only 59% if those SIX primary targets TOGETHER are getting the lion’s share of the targets and AVERAGING over 71% catch percentage, have gotten 77% of the targets and have over 89% of the catches and 94% of the passing TDs (15 of 16)? Something’s bad wrong in Bucsville it would seem.

    Look no further than Breshad Perriman (29% catch%), Scotty Miller (23% catch%), departed Bobo Wilson (27% catch%), Antony Auclair (33% catch%), Tanner Hudson (33% catch%), and Peyton Barber (58% catch%). Together they’ve been targeted 66 times and caught 22 passes … 33% catch%.

And therein lies a major problem, for Jameis and for this team. Too many wasted passes at critical times in the games. The big question in my mind is what will the Bucs do about it in this 2nd half of the season? Auclair & Bobo are no longer factors. But the others … Perriman, Miller, Hudson and Barber … need to step up their game. Oh and WHERE IS JUSTIN WATSON? He’s been targeted ONCE on the season, and caught it for 13 yds. And yet he rides the bench while Miller catches 3 of 13 thrown his way. Makes perfect sense to me. Ya right.

#1bucsfan ….your letting out a secret not too well known around these parts !!

  9. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

Get Jameis out of here. Any qb could what he’s done with Godwin and Evans. Imagine if he hit them in stride. I’m proud of myself this is the first week I listened to coach. We don’t need this guy and his off the field issues. Dalton would be better and we don’t have to worry about him hanging out w other known thugs like Ronald Darby.

  10. Anonymous Says:

Other than 2 with the Falcons…how do we get to 5 wins this year?

  11. Pete I Says:

Jameis “meaningless stats” Winston America’s QB had his great game in Seattle.

His cycle would suggest either an OK game or a meh game vs Arizona.

And a melt down vs the Saints.

Can he break his cycle? Unlikely

His next turnover will be his 93rd since entering the league.

  12. Pete I Says:

    Oh and of course 23-39

  13. down in the dirt doug Says:

Even if the team wins four more games Jameis should go.If the team wins five or six in the second half then give him one more year at 15,000,000.If they win seven or eight more –than give him a new contract.Yes it bothers me to continue with “Mr Unreliable”

  14. Todd Says:

Joe, for sh!ts and giggles, can you do a quick thought experiment for me please?

Take the stats of the 20th ranked defense and match our offense to them. Meaning, if instead of our defense we had (just) the 20th ranked one, what would our record be?

    Asking for a friend.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Jameis has 4 outstanding receivers in ME13, Godwin, Brate & OJ. Together they’re averaging over 68% catch% and have gotten the lion’s share of the passes.

So WHY is Jameis averaging 59% completion percentage? The answer is, and has been, in moderation. It’s not all as rosy as y’all seem to think.

  16. Adam Lakers Carolla Says:

Best threesome? Haven’t found it on NFL.com
Joe’s favorite threesome was the Three Stooges
And don’t sleep on Thatcher, John Paul II and Reagan. They were a pretty good “threesome”

  17. teacherman777 Says:

    I love Jameis!

    Hes only 24!

He will be a Pro Bowler by 30!

  18. Reach87 Says:

Once again, the Madden morons wade in. Who threw that bomb to Evans to get us into position for a winning field goal? Who shredded the Defense to get us into overtime w/ Seattle? I could go on, this year and last. Its a team game. Team would be 4-4 if the team had made those plays. And neither of our QBs was on the field for those plays. You have choices: Learn football, keep blaming the QB for all of your woes and saying you’re a “fan”, or go root for some other team with a QB who suits your fancy (fancy). Go Bucs!

  19. miken Says:

Hard to Argue with this post from Joe. If your fantasy team has Cutler, Godwin and Evans then you are rolling!!!!

  20. Bucnjim Says:

Todd that doesn’t work because of the number of turnovers Winston has had. Not only pick 6’s which he was the league leader but turning the ball over in our own territory which FORCES the D to defend what 30 yards? You could just google QB rating for the last five years and it tells you everything you need to know. Winstons average QB rating has been (and always will be) around 85%. That has been and always will be in the bottom 25%

  21. 813bucboi Says:

    yeah…

that “best threesome” has produced only 2 wins….lol…

    JW IS A BUST!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  22. tickrdr Says:

Lots of yards, TD passes, “terrible” defense, suspect OL, poor play calling, poor rushing attack, etc.
All of that is true, yet the Bucs are 2 – 6???

Here are the six worst teams at giveaways:
    Giants 22
    Bucs 18
    Browns 17
    Dolphins 17
    Jets 17
    Falcons 15
    Bengals 15
ALL of these teams are at 2 – 6 or worse.

Here are the top teams at turnover differential.
    Patriots 17
    Steelers 11
    Packers 7
    Seahawks 7
    Panthers 6
    Titans 5
    Vikings 4
    49er’s 4
BTW, those are ALL positive differentials.
The ONLY losing record among them belongs to the Titans at 4 – 5.

BTW#2: So, how come the Bucs are only at -5 for their differential?
That ‘s because our “terrible, rotten, no good” defense has generated 13 takeaways, tied for 10th BEST in the league.
So, yeah, turnovers don’t matter at all. Right???

So, lead the league in turnover differential, and you’re vying for the Lombardi.
And if you’re the worst in turnover differential, you’re vying for the #1 pick.

    BTW#3:
Look at ALL of the short fields given to the opponents‘ offense to start drives from, and don’t forget to include THREE “pick 6’s”, where the defense was not even given a chance to get on the field.

    tickrdr

  23. tickrdr Says:

Here are examples of only two recent games, where the opponents’ drives started on a short field.

Panther drives started at the TAM 29, TAM36, TAM8, and TAM17 yard lines.
Titans drives started at the TAM 10, TAM 6, and TAM 36 yard lines.
And don’t forget, THREE pick 6’s this year where the defense never even got a chance to get on the field!

Boy, does our defense suck! Can’t even stop them from the 6 yard line.
Too bad the defense couldn’t go on the field during the THREE pick 6’s.

  24. Bucnjim Says:

    Tickrdr,

Good stats I hate when fans cherry pick. You can find some great info on Football Outsiders. Very interesting to say the least! Check out Defensive Drive stats 2019 and Offensive Drive stats 2019. Our D is actually somewhat respectable but our Offense Ranks below 20 in almost every category.

  25. 813bucboi Says:

    tickrdr

    great stats….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  26. Bucnjim Says:

Another good stat to consider is our Defense is ranked second to last in starting field position. Basically starting a good portion of our drives in our own territory. pretty easy to score when you’re dealing with a 50 yard field or much less most of the time.

    You on a roll bro.

Don’t for get to mention top 5 in TDs and 7 in yards and the 31 ranked def.

  30. Nick2 Says:

One of the leagues best offenses that gives the opponent offenses enough turnovers to win every time??? Joe I think you can say that Godwin and Evans are the best duo but Winston with all his talent and ability will either become elite or the next Cutler turning the ball over so much he plays himself out of the league. I hope he recovers but at this point he is trending towards the latter.

  31. 813bucboi Says:

    db55

JWs TOs contribute to that 31st ranked defense…..

hard to defend short fields and pick 6s….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  32. whaaatttsss uuuup Says:

here we go with this same non-sense again… i see people in here saying well if jameis plays like he did last week .. blaaaah blaaaah blaaahh!!! how many games does he have to cost this team in the games that really matter (i.e. 2 picks to start the game putting the defense in a horrible position) before people see that other teams, GOOD TEAMS, do not put up with a QB who leads the league in turn overs!!! i mean Jesus Christ he cost us 3 games JUST THIS SEASON and i still see people saying the same stupid stuff!! ….. he always plays good when we are out of the playoffs!! once the pressure is off he plays good!! this guy is not the guy ya’ll wake up!! no team in the league EVEN THE JAGS would put up with that type of turnover ratio…. yes winston COULD be good!! but he is not!!! lets move on

  33. unbelievable Says:

Definitely not the people who are in the threesomes of my dreams…. lol

But yeah, they ballin. Too bad we don’t have any wins to show for it.

  34. DB55 Says:

Anybody know any other team putting up 29 ppg on offense?

Seriously though if you can’t win with 29 ppg then what’s the point?

And this whole idea of the def being on the field too long is bs bc the Bucs have 31 min top.

  35. chris L Says:

Joe – why keep mentioning dalton? nobody wants him over winston lol. that is insulting to buc fans

JAMEIS WINSTON IS ABOUT TO GET $$$ PAID $$$

And any lunatic fan who hopes the Bucs draft a new QB or let JW walk and sign a new QB in free agency, better be prepared to watch as Evans & Godwin demand a trade next year!

No GM with a functioning brain is going to start over w/ a rookie QB when his team is built to be a pass-first team … JAMEIS WILL GET PAID!
