Shaq Barrett Talks Sack Dances, JPP Disconnection, Heat Happiness & More

August 7th, 2019

A new Buc opens up.

Serious Bucs fans have been known to pray all night, asking the football gods to make sure the latest free agent pass rusher in town isn’t here just to collect fat checks and enjoy Clearwater Beach.

DE/LB Shaq Barrett is an experienced Bucs newcomer who hopes to get after the passer. And Bucs fans hope he won’t be linked to Michael Johnson, Vinny Curry or Chris “Swaggy” Baker.

Barrett took to the “Salty Dogs” podcast this week on Buccaneers.com to talk about himself and the Bucs. Hopefully, Bucs fans will be soothed.

Here are highlights compiled by manbeast JoeBucsFan.com intern Zachary Seifter.

*Barrett notes that he visited with Cincinnati and almost signed there before going to the Bucs. Money and Tampa Bay coaches were his reasons for choosing the Bucs.

*Starting doesn’t necessarily matter, Barrett says, he wants significant playing time and to be the guy in the game in the 4th quarter with the game on the line.

*Just like he said during his press conference last week, Barrett says the 3-4 defense he’s playing here is a lot different from the 3-4 he played in Denver.

*Barrett makes an interesting statement. Even though he’s a Colorado guy, having played there in college and the NFL, he says he plays better in the heat despite not being used to it and the challenge.

*Barrett says he has been helping many younger Bucs who haven’t been through an NFL training camp before. Tips on pass-rush moves and more. He says the rookie year is the hardest by far, which is why he tries to help as much as he can.

*Asked about the changes that come with going to a new team, Barrett talks about the struggles in his personal life, saying, “That’s the only part that really sucks about having to relocate and change teams.” He has his whole family in Colorado. His kids are relocating schools, his wife has to leave her friends. It’s the tough part of being an NFL player.

*Barrett says he hasn’t even met Jason Pierre-Paul but the team will miss his presence on defense. He says it’s up to the coaches to have confidence in the players and put them in positions to succeed and get after the quarterback.

*Eight sacks is the acceptable minimum this year for himself, Barrett said, and will have sack dances ready.

Just make sure your dancing while “WINNING” and not losing and you’ll be fine we already got rid of one “LOSING” dancing clown.

You’ve never heard cancer93 or his sidekick lvd come out and say they want to be that 4th qtr throat stomper…. the leaders of the losing culture were / are pathetic excuses for players and men.

  4. zzbuc Says:

Not sure why, but tons of faith on this guy!!!!!

Shaq will definitely come to pay because he’s hungry unlike swaggy , gmc the dancing clown & Michael jiggles the Johnson’s Johnson ! With him and Spence rotating along with the others we will have speed and depth while the big guys VV & Suh slam through an opponents line ! It feels much different this year I’m telling ya Boyz ! Go bucs

Who in the HELL isn’t JPP at practice. He earns a sh!t-pot of money and instead of having fancy furniture moved to his poolside deck on Instagram, support the damned team! This is ridiculous. Lots of other injured players around the league who support their fellow teammates. And it’s not like he can’t learn from TB…it’s a new scheme.

    I’m over him.

Cut his ass and use the $7.5MM elsewhere.

“Why” in the hell isn’t JPP…”

  8. LordCornelius Says:

Denver people loved Shaq so I was 100% on board with that signing.

excited to see his production with more snaps while chasing a big contract next year

  9. Eric y Says:

todd are you the spelling officer? Sheesh as long as you know what he is saying that’s all that matters…. quit being a CU$T

  10. Bucnjim Says:

Think he was spell checking himself

  11. Father Rico Says:

    That’s no excuse….

  12. TDTB Says:

I don’t know the rules, but my understanding is that JPP’s salary doesn’t count against the cap and he doesn’t get paid until he plays…so I don’t believe the Bucs are out anything. I agree that he should be at practice and taking “mental” reps. My guess is his agent told him to stay at home because are likely to cut/trade him and his salary once he’s well. Similar to GMC.

  13. #1bucsfan Says:

Sorry T M A X I P A D. GMC will always be a better man an football player than you. Your showing how jealous you are of him an all his Batman gear

  14. Buccluck Says:

The only part I was disappointed to hear was that MONEY is a big reason he’s here. I know that’s everyone’s motivation but don’t say that in an interview. Especially to a fan base that has endured so many FA’s coming here to collect a paycheck for sucking at football.

  15. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

I had to scroll back up n make sure eric lmmfao 😂

  16. TOM Says:

He talks the talk. Now I want to see him walk the walk.
