Weekday Work Impressing Dirk Koetter

September 22nd, 2018

This may be the best news Joe has heard all week.

There’s a great indicator out there to determine whether a team in the business world or in the NFL is going to sustain success: they’re grinding at it every day with the right approach.

Yesterday on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Dirk Koetter was asked by the NFL’s godfather of scouting, Gil Brandt, to identify what he likes about his football team over the past two weeks.

Koetter went right to the practice field and the meeting rooms.

Gil Brandt: What are the some of the things you like from your team the last two weeks that you hope to continue building on?

Dirk Koetter: It starts, I like how they’re working at it. I like how they’re preparing during the week, how they’re coming to practice on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and flyin’ around playing fast on the field. We’ve had good energy. The guys are into it. They’re complementing each other. They’re talkin’ to each other. I know they’re studying their keys and studying our opponents and it’s carrying over to the games.

Great to hear. Of course, Koetter could have focused on in-game stuff — there’s been plenty to applaud — but he went directly to the meat and potatoes of the football season.

This bodes will. Good practice habits and intensity usually mean no significant losing streaks when you have a talented football team like the Bucs do.

Nothing better than TAMPA TWO! with Derrick Brooks dissecting the keys to the Bucs-Steelers game. Sage JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman completes the dynamic duo. Enjoy!

They are paving their way to the playoffs!

    Go Bucs!!!

  2. BucNut33 Says:

This sounds like a Team that has taken the next step. Monday night will be a huge metric and assessment of this. Go Bucs!

  3. '79Defense Says:

I hope it translates into a good performance on Monday. It seems often you’ll hear “I don’t know what happened. We had a great week of practice…”

We’re still the Bucs and we still have the worst winning percentage ever of any team in the four major sports at .387 . That says a lot for those of us who have supported the team forever. –The Timberwolves in the NBA are next with .397

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

Koetter looks so relaxed not having to deal with Jameis for the time being. This team is jelling right now but I have a feeling when Jameis gets back his cult following fans will be screaming their collective heads off in spite of winning. What if the Bucs insert Jameis and we start losing? What will their myriad of excuses be? Because we all know they will have them, including at least one Joe…

  5. Cgmaster27 Says:

Jean you and the rest of the anti jameis fans are a damn cult. You even bring him up in articles that have NOTHING to do with him. It’s one step short of trump derangement syndrom.

  6. i like gunslingers Says:

yeah there practicing hard and they don’t have dirtbags like swaggy baker, sitting on the sidelines screaming and provoking players what a big pile of dung and total waste of space,

  7. Jean Lafitte Says:

    @Cgmaster27

I don’t even live in the states moron …what do they call you? ..snowflake?

  8. BucEmUp Says:

Wanting Fitz to continue to start if he keeps.winning is not a cult or anti jameis….its just common sense. You don’t fix something that isn’t broken

  9. AlteredEgo Says:

Hope so… big headed players thinking they are all that after Huge wins… have embarrassed themselves and their HC’s laying a turd on themselves and the their fans…. if they don’t come out thinking they’ll be in a fight for their lives until the end of 4th quarter math calls for a Victory formation they are not ready for prime time

  10. Anonymous Says:

Let not forget Jameis is the starter here for game four…he wins the job with just a week of practice and the team will be better for it

  11. orlbucfan Says:

I’ve been watching DK/Licht put this offense together for 3 years. It looks like it’s starting to bloom. Pittsburgh is the weakest of the 3 teams we’re starting the season with. That’s not an insult; it’s a fact. They’ve also got major distractions like unhappy players and a major holdout. What’s the line on this one? Steelers favored by 3, 4? Bucs don’t always play well on MNF, but there have been times when they do. I sense a win and the further development of a great offense.

  12. Big Stinky Says:

    @ Anonymous

Fitzpatrick is going to start game 4, sorry to break the news to you. Even if he has a bad game against the Steelers he will still start. Good to hear the team was practicing well this week. Hope Fitzpatrick has another win in that magic bag of his. #FearTheBeard #GoBucs

Jean you buddy are the sorry snowflake. Freaking out over something that hasn’t even happened and likely won’t. Koetter will not put Jameis in if Fitzpatrick remains on a hot streak and is healthy. Yeah– if you lived here, no doubt you’d be on the left with a bad case of butt hurt Trump derangement syndrome. Lol!

  15. Jerry Jones Says:

If we can start 3-0 we will be in the 10-6 company as far as our history goes.

    ’79 we started 5-0 ended up 10-6

    ’97 started 5-0 we ended 11-5

    ’00 started 3-0 ended 10-6

    ’05 we started 4-0 ended 11-5
