Still No Love For Bucs

May 29th, 2018

Peers think Desean Watson and Case Keenum are among NFL elites

Desean Watson is better than America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston? It appears that’s what NFL players think.

The annual NFL Top 100 players feature on NFL Network is 60 percent finished for 2018.

Last night’s episode revealed players ranked Nos. 41-50, including Watson at No. 50 — and still not one Buccaneer has been named.

The rankings represent vote totals from hundreds NFL players. Jameis was ranked 57th in last year’s voting, so it’s now a safe bet he’s out in the cold for 2018. Watson joins Kirk Cousins, Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr, Philip Rivers and Case Keenum as QBs honored this year. Joe’s confident five more NFC quarterbacks are coming, plus the AFC heavyweights.

Gerald McCoy was ranked No. 52 last year, so it’s getting dicey for him. Would players really leave McCoy off this list?

Mike Evans ranked No. 29 in 2017, and Joe is confident he’s the only returning Buccaneer on the offense who has a shot at the top-100 this year.

  2. 813bucboi Says:

the only buc that should make it is the punter bryan anger…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  3. Greg Says:

The pathetic Bucs don’t deserve any love

  4. Lord Cornelius Says:

Good. I hope no one makes it. More motivation.

Dumb list anyway that might as well be random with how the voting is done

  5. OneBuc55 Says:

Should be a little extra motivation for the Bucs who got left off the list. This is an “What have you done for me lately” kind of league; the fact that Desean Watson made it on a year where I dont even think he played in 8 games and Keenum, a career back up with 1 good season under his belt makes the list proves my point…The bottom line is, if we want respect in this league we gotta Win some ball games…

  6. Syl Says:

The myth in the league and around is Jameis regressed last year. It is a crap take, but that is the myth around the league. Somehow Jameis is the only QB that stink sticks.

  7. Eric Says:

I see all the butt hurt gator fans still spew their hate.

  8. Honest Ed Says:

This is probably for the best. This team needs to stay humble and hungry.

  9. Dewey Selmon Says:

We don’t need no love, we need victories.

  10. DB55 Says:

According to the brilliant TB buc fans ButMan should be #1 on the list so there’s still time. Lmao. #McIceCream #TheyCallHimButMan cuz he gives up the booty every chance he gets.

  11. m0j0 Says:

Bucs had a rough year, so I am not surprised. But they will rise again and gain respect!

  12. Lamarcus Says:

It’s top 100 seasons not players.

  13. buddy Says:

Why exactly is this shocking? The Bucs were 5-11 and everyone only looks at this team with rose colored glasses. Lets get this straight they have the worst qb in the division and had the worst defense in it. So why would there be any love for them. They don’t deserve it. Get over it superfans and be honest with yourselves the other teams get paid too and quite frankly have better teams and organizations. #truth.

  14. DooshLaRue Says:

Eatin” dem W’s is the real reason JW ain’t gonna make the list. People aren’t forgetting that nonsense.
Softie93 on the other hand…………..just ouch!
    Ouchies……ha ha ha.

    Go Bucs!

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Well, here’s what I have to say to those who decided the top NFL 100 list….and this one’s for 87…..miss you man!!!

“I want to look then straight in the eyes and I want to tell them what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, d***less, hopeless, heartless, fat-a**, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey s*** they is! Hallelujah! Holy s***! Where’s the Tylenol?”

  16. gilhealy Says:

That shows how the voting is really tallied. Players get a vote, but the NFL network decides who to put where. Flavor of the month.

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

My problem with these lists is what are they supposed to be representing?
I’m honestly not sure how the players rank each other…what are they thinking?

Is it strongly based on the past season? Is it the top 100 from 2017?

Is it based on potential for this year and where players are currently ranked? IE This is the list you’d most likely to use if you were building a franchise from scratch?

Is it an overall assessment of the actual quality and ability of the player…as in looking at a guy’s entire career and his age and where his game is right now?

  18. Blue-footed booby Says:

I remember last week when someone told me to retract my statement for me saying Mike Evans wasn’t going to be on the top 100 players. Well, come a week from now, if Evans still isn’t mentioned, I think it’s safe to say that he isn’t going to be on the list as well, especially with his mediocre production of 1001 receiving yards and only 5 receiving TDs.

Oh, and I must say that some people are still in denial about the reality that Jameis Winston is still the worst starting QB in the NFC South and among the bottom 3 starting quarterbacks in the NFC.

  19. SCBucsFan Says:

When I saw “Still No Love For The Bucs” I figured it was a review of 1/2 the posts in this forum

  20. mike10 Says:

If wins and losses were determined based upon pre-season hype, we would have been 16-0 in 2018.

I’m good with the lacking attention, let them go out and earn it.

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“so it’s now a safe bet he’s out in the cold for 2018”

    Sorry, Joe, but that’s bull.

In a few weeks, this will be a non-issue. Winston will be named and everything is moot.

There are 40 spots left, right? I think it’s a bit soon to give up…even though that’s the Tampa Fan Way.

  22. Jjones Says:

    Whatever, next.

  23. Steven007 Says:

We don’t need any participation trophies for the miserable 2017 season. Fly under the radar, play with attitude and win some games.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Blue-footed booby Says
“…his mediocre production of 1001 receiving yards and only 5 receiving TDs.”

The only reason his production was down is because Winston was injured and forced to throw more to Desean Jackson…who utterly sucks. The proof is in the pudding…at the end of the season, Winston gave Evans the attention and he produced.

So far as Jameis being “among the bottom 3 starting quarterbacks in the NFC”, you sir, are completely full of it. But not to worry, you’ll jump right on that bandwagon after this year.

  25. Blue-footed booby Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai please tell me that was sarcasm. No way Jameis Winston is getting in the remaining 40 spots. Zero chance. I’m absolutely sure his finger poking of Marshon Lattimore + plenty of turnovers + 3-10 record as starting QB in 2017 + shoving Shelton Quarles doesn’t get him a spot in the top 40 players among his peers.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Blue-footed booby

    We shall see.

  27. Bucsfanman Says:

The list is stooo-pid! Think about it. They’ve got guys in there that played less than 8 games (JJ Watt, Jimmy G, etc…). No way is this a best 100 for 2017.

Other than Bryan Anger, Mike Evans is the ONLY Buc who deserves to be on the list. GMC’s a great player but he played on THEE WORST defense in the league! Nobody deserves it on that defense, nobody.

  28. tickrdr Says:

Some things I learned en route to looking up other things:

Deshaun (not Desean) Watson started only the first seven games of his rookie year, before going down with an injury.
The Houston Texans scored 7-13-33-57-34-33-38 points in those seven games, for an average of 30.7 ppg.
The Houston Texans defense was the WORST in the league (not the Bucs) in points allowed per game = 27.2 ppg.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers scored 335 points for the season. Only 237 points were scored while Jameis Winston was the QB (Fitz had three starts plus half of Arizona game) for an average of 19 ppg, despite all of those “weapons for Winston”.

    tickrdr

  29. Blue-footed booby Says:

Also, no I’m not ‘full of it’ in regards to Winston being a bottom 3 starting QB in the NFC. I can name enough quarterbacks that are better than Jameis Winston in the NFC: Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith, Dak Prescott, Carson Wentz, Russell Wilson, Jared Goff, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Josh Rosen (assuming he beats out Bradford in training camp which he should).

The only two starting NFC quarterbacks I left out were Eli Manning, whom still deserves at least another year to prove he’s got something left in the tank given his postseason successes, and Mitch Trubisky whom had a better excuse for a crap supporting cast on offense than Jameis.

And yeah, I put in Rosen ahead of Winston because Rosen is a much more mechanically refined QB than Winston’s long windup motion and spotty footwork which leads to his terrible deep pass accuracy.

  30. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

When I look at national analysts show us no love, my first reaction is to be disappointed and angry. But then I realize we have given them no reason to show us love. We will be disrespected until we earn respect.

  31. Walter Seidel Says:

The most enduring memories of Jameis from 2017 (by fans not in Tampa or Tallahassee) are “eating W’s” and coming onto the field to poke Lattimore on the back of the head. Trust me.

  32. Dooshlarue Says:

    @Walter S

    EXACTLY!

  33. ndog Says:

So Blue-footed you think a guy that had worst stats than Jameis (Newton), a guy that could not completely one season in the NFL (Jimmy G), a guy that two different teams has gotten rid of (A. Smith), a guy that fell apart as soon as he did not have the best back in football (Dak) a guy that has his head coach calls his audbiles for him at the line of scrimmage (Goff) and a guy that has not even taken a preseason snap ahead of a guy that is on pace to be in the top 3 all time in passing yards? Dude you have some serious issues. In the NFC is goes as below:

    Rodgers
    Brees
    Stafford
    Wilson
    Ryan
    Wentz
    Cousins
    Winston
    Manning
    Jimmy G.
    Alex Smith
    Dak
    Cam
    Goff
    Trubisky
    Rosen

The weak minded get blinded by the eating the W’s deal or the Lattimore deal. People who actually watch the games understand what we have in Jameis. Is he perfect, of course not, but I asked before and I will again please show me the QB in the history of the game that won games with the worst defense in the league, the worst kicking game in the league and a bottom five running game? Please show us all who did that I will fully admit I was wrong and Jameis should be cut right now. Waiting….

  34. Tony from L.A. Says:

People just aren’t paying attention to what Winston did in the last 5 games when healthy.

    Who cares, really. It’s irrelevant.
    Win and it changes.
    Period.

  35. SOEbuc Says:

I…DON’T…CARE!!! RANK PLAYERS WHEREVER YOU WANT JUST GIVE MY “TEAM” SOME F-ING WINS!!!

  36. Blue-footed booby Says:

ndog Cam Newton actually has an MVP award and a Super Bowl appearance. Also whatever deficiencies Cam has cam be made up in his terrific running ability to gain roughly 5 yards per carry and just rushed for more than 700 yards this past season.

Also putting Jared Goff that low is just disrespectful to Goff who had a top 10 overall QB performance in the NFL last season. Yeah, he had McVay and Gurley but at the end of the day it’s still Goff being responsible for making post-snap decisions and throwing the football. Swap Jameis Winston with either Jared Goff and/or Cam Newton and your list would look pretty good overall.

  37. Destinjohnny Says:

Been saying it, 3 is between 18-22nd best qb
Watson is badass and well deserving

  38. OneBucPerson Says:

Again, why would they get love? They sucked last year, not 1 player on this team shined consistently enough to warrant a top 100 appearance. Only way to change that is for this team to put up or shut up this year.

  39. BrianBucs Says:

At this point, Jameis should be ranked 17th-23rd best QB in NFL

  40. Mike Johnson Says:

Nobody loves a Loser. You want the love in the NFl then WIN baby! Bucs need Wins not Love. And we need to win 3 out of the 1st 5 games or we are..playin catup all year..puffin smoke.

  41. Jim Says:

    What Walter said…

  42. Not there yet Says:

The was no reason to respect this team last year. The media and the bucs brass thinks it was somehow honorable how the team kept fighting while ignoring how lopsided games were in the first half with them fighting back from so many potential blowouts. Eating the W speech and the fiasco with the saints doomed Winston in the eyes of his peers.

The Joe’s are in disbelief but he’d be the first quarterback called America’s quarterback that’s not considered a top. 100 player for a perennial loser.

Only people in the world that call Winston America’s quarterback are three ones typing it here and what’s worse is not only are you the only ones that think it your the only ones that know why that dumb name came into existence.

  43. Duke Says:

    NDog,

First, I want to see JW continue to grow and refine His game. I would much rather change Coaches then QB’s.

But here’s the thing that I see you posting time and time again (I assume it’s a cut and paste by now) worst d, k……I don’t disagree with the overall point you’re going for but rather that you’re supporting it with data that is either false, cherry picked or so limited in scope that it’s rendered useless.

Has JW played with the NFL’ s worst defense. Yes and No. Worst kicking game, no. Worst running game, No. So right from jump, it’s factually easier to dismiss your conclusions than to agree with them but in the process ignore the facts and accept your evidence is ridiculously flawed and severely narrowed to render the answer you already have accepted.

Bottom line, redundancy hasn’t changed any more opinions than when you begun.
Make a halftime adjustment, put your evidence in the best place for them to succeed and by all means limit the turnovers caused by bad stats. Quit running the ball up the middle and be less predictable. Do you see it coming ……by now it’s obvious…….DK = ????

  44. Duke Says:

    Tony,

“People aren’t paying attention to what JW did in the last 5 games when He was healthy”.

    What people?
    What did they see?
He won the last one or how a healthy JW lost the previous ones?
Did they see the possibility of another 6+ picks ?
Maybe they see a decision making process unchanged from the 1st game to the last.
JW threw some great balls to DB’ s that they inexplicably dropped?
Did they how meaningless his final TD’ s/INT’ s is because of the drops.

Did they see W’ s = injury free JW?

Maybe, they figure it’s hard to be injury free all season so they look at how well He plays hurt. Favre (because everyone compares them) played injured and played well. Nobody pulls the he’s injured card out for him or anyone. A perfectly healthy season is not something that you plan on.

People see what they want to see.

  45. Duke Says:

    Bucsfanman,

The list would be stoopid if it’s looking at last year. It’s not. Stoopid is still in picture but we’ve eliminated one side.

  46. Bucsfanman Says:

Duke- Maybe I don’t understand the list then. Is it top 100 players in the NFL? Is it top 100 going into 2018?
Are we to argue that Jimmy G’s limited game time is better overall than JW’s injury-free games? What of Matt Stafford?
    Are we projecting?
I’m too ignorant to be offended. Are you arguing my opinion?

  47. Jack Says:

This list matters to who? If the Bucs, after last year, need this as motivation we will be picking in the top5. Watson was 3-3 as a starter vs CIN, NE, TEN, KC, CLE & SEA. Was sacked 7 times and only had 2 total TDs & had under 300 total YDS 2INT vs JAC & CIN that makes him the 50th best NFL player, seriously!
    That list is a joke.
