“We Know Who We Want”

April 26th, 2018

Pre-draft chat.

On the cusp of the 2018 draft, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht decided to talk about tonight’s first round.

Some of the items Licht touched upon was the vetting process of potential draft picks (“We know who we want.”) and potential trades, of which Licht is expecting a couple involving teams in the top ten.

Licht did not mention if he may be involved in a trade.

You can watch it all below, video courtesy of Buccaneers.com.

  1. Bucs Guy Says:

Trade down if the big 3 aren’t available.
Nobody else is worth #7 except LB and QB.
    End of discussion.

  2. Dave Pear Says:

    He actually said nothing.

  3. R.O. Says:

Just listened to the podcast.. L all you do is say who you wouldn’t take at 7. We don’t pick in a Vaccum and can o my pick players in this draft. Who would you take at 7? Cheesh!!!

  4. Roy T. Buford Says:

I hope they don’t blow it and get a RB in the 1st. That would spark some fan excitement I think but they reall really need nees a G or CB early. Barkley wouldn’t make me mad…he’d be the best player on the board perhaps..but…

Still not surprised if they trade down and get that 3rd round pick back.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

    @Dave Pear … “He actually said nothing.” B-I-N-G-O !!!

  6. darin Says:

    Bucs guy
Lol. Funny. You bought into the Big 3 hook, line and sinker. All 32 teams have boards, none say big 3 on them. Trade down if you can I agree with. If not there will be plenty of players worth a selection.

  7. Oxycondoms Says:

James looks like wearing bucs red

  8. NJBucsFan Says:

@Oxy…or Cardinals red or Falcons red…or FSU colors.

  9. NFLNut Says:

Bucs WANTS in order if they HAVE TO STAY at #7:

    1. Bradley Chubb
    2. Saquon Barkley
    3. Quenton Nelson
    4. Derwin James
    5. Minkah Fitzpatrick
    6. Denzel Ward
    7. Mike McGlinchey
    8. Viti Vea
    9. Marcus Davenport

I’d be thrilled with #1-3 … fine with #4-5 and a bit disappointed with #6-7, disappointed with #8 and disgusted with #9

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Notices that, Oxy………..Red….Red….Red…..ready for the hat!!!

  11. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

I like a trade back with Az for #15 their 3rd this year and their 1st next year.
Before u bit my head off think about this. The Cards are going to be HORRIBLE. That 1st rounders next year will prolly be top 5 or 10 pick. Next years class is LOADED with top tier DL talent. We can use that pick to replace GMC and get his massive cap off our books. Just my opinion. (Not a GMC hater either)

  12. Doctor Stroud Says:

A lot of jobs in the Bucs organization are riding on this pick and on this upcoming season.

    ^ MIKE EVANS GOAT,

No one should bite your head off … trading the #7 for the #15, a 3rd and a 2019 1st rounder would be a GREAT trade for the Bucs.

They would likely miss out on all the premier DBs (Ward, Minkah and Derwin) but could take the best tackle in the draft in Mike McGlinchey at #15, grab a solid CB like Anthony Averett with that 3rd round pick and still have a likely high 1st rounder from Arizona next year … I like it.

  14. Greg Says:

Translation… who ever I get is who we always wanted!

  15. firethecannons Says:

go along with mike evans goat–yeah to all of it–hope it happens

  16. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Let’s get it on! I’ve been reading this site for a couple years and it’s time to post. Let’s get one of the “big three” or let’s trade down. Stop the FSU homer picks!

  17. SB Says:

Looks like some of those smoke screens aren’t smoke screens
    Congrats to Baker Mayfield.

  18. Jjones Says:

Betterbuccinbelieveit…where you at?! Say gone to Saquon!

  19. Capt.Tim Says:

Wanna post my choices, before the pick.
Too many people wait til the Pick- then cry- without ever voicing who they would approve of.

    Good Picks-IMO
Barkley- best talent in draft, at a position of Need
Bradley Chubb- best DE in the draft
Nelson- good Pick, not great value at 7
    Davenport- could be very special

    Ok pick
James- will be good. Never great. Not instinctive enough, lacks fluidity.
Vita Vea- Run Stopper only, but thats an important thing!
    Josh Jackson- solid CB
Darious Guise- a reach. Not a huge one
Mike McGlinchey or Kolton Miller- OT. Again, a reach.

    Mistakes
Denzel Ward. Hes 180#. By midseason- 175#. NFC south is big, strong Recievers. If he tries to press, they will knock him down. If he stands back 10’, they will catch it and run him over. There are divisions that value short, Fast WRs. Ward might be ok there. Meybe.

Minkah Fitzpatrick- Alabama uses an interesting strategy. Start 4 run stuffing Strong safeties in the secondary- to crush the run. Then let your dominant Defensive Line crush the QB.. that works. In college. Fitz will be a strong safety, who is a bit of a liability in coverage. Hes much better than Mark Barron- who I said from month one was a linebacker- but he has rigid hip turn- will be an average safety in the Tampa system. For all the complaints against him, Chris conte is a better fit for our scheme.

I hope they can trade down. But I doubt it. Not much faith in this management team. Yes, Licht has drafted some great players. But he ignored huge holes in the team- that cost us games(seasons!). Drafting isnt just about drafting good players. Its about building a winning team.
Thats where Koetter and Licht fail in the draft. Hope this year is different

  20. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Denzel Ward over Chubb? Could it happen…at least Nelson?

  21. Jarhead Says:

Yessss!!! Thank you Browns. Denzel Ward goes 4th.

  22. mark2001 Says:

For the dipsticks that thought that last win was so great last year. At 5 we could have had Chubb……Suckaneers as usual. And if we don’t get Nelson, forget it.

  23. Oneilbucs Says:

    Chubb man !!!!!

  24. ATrain Says:

So much for 3 QBs in the first 5 picks

These NFL analysts are worst than the weatherman

  25. Gatorkmk Says:

Be prepared for a name you did not expect

  26. Bird Says:

Agree on the moral victory win blah

  27. ATrain Says:

    We are taken a Safety

That didn’t work the last time we did that

  28. ATrain Says:

    Dang It!

  29. ATrain Says:

What happen to ALL the QB hungry teams????

  30. Jarhead Says:

Nelson gone, Josh’s Allen and Rosen on the board….Trade please!!!

  31. mark2001 Says:

But oh boy…that moral victory was a great win at the end of last year….so says the most ignorant fans in the league. Chubb would have been ours.

  32. Bird Says:

    Trade back

  33. mark2001 Says:

Rather have had Chubb…but Licht is cleaning up this teams mess…as usual.

  34. richardtyson Says:

Well, we could always use a little depth on the roster…

  35. Buco Says:

Heck yeah!!! Only lose a few spots and pick up 2 second round picks. Can you say trade back into round 1! Beautiful move. Build through the draft!

  36. Jarhead Says:

Nice! Was hoping 12 and 22 but if 12 and two 2s was the best they could get I will take it.

  37. ATrain Says:

    WHAT?

  38. Oneilbucs Says:

    What!!!!!

  39. Oneilbucs Says:

    Man that sucks
