Franchise Faces Ignored By Vinny Curry

New Bucs DE speaks

UPDATED 4:46 p.m. – Newly signed Buccaneers free agent defensive tackle Vinny Curry greeted local media today and Joe was flabbergasted by his 10-minute news conference.

Through it all, Curry never mentioned the names most do when they come to Tampa via free agency: Gerald McCoy and Jameis Winston.

Curry raved about new defensive line coach Brentson Buckner and how he impacted him via a phone call discussing his coaching philosophy. He had great things to say about fellow Eagle-turned-Buc defensive tackle Beau Allen. And he shared a nugget about how DeSean Jackson helped him as a rookie in Philly.  But somehow, Curry didn’t bring up McCoy, certainly the most famous Buccaneer in defensive line circles.

It was surprising. And Joe doesn’t care what questions were lobbed at Curry, no mention of McCoy is out of the ordinary. No Jameis mention was less surprising, but still atypical.

Big-money guard Ryan Jensen also got through his news conference without talking about either face of the franchise, including the guy he’ll be snapping the ball to.

Perhaps it all means nothing, but Joe is not big on coincidences.

    He’s here for dat MONEY!!!!!!

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

Trade GMC to the Colts for their extra 2nd round pick and colts extra second round pick for next year!!!!!!!!!!

The Smoke screen was so thick that the sheep could not see and were jumping ship left and right!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Rod Munch Says:

The guy has played his entire career in Philly and that’s what he knows. I don’t personally find it to be a big deal, not unless he has asked about McCoy or Jameis and had no idea who you were talking about, then that might be a bit of a red flag.

  4. voiceofreason Says:

    flabbergasting!

  5. bucs_365 Says:

This post isn’t worth the 30 seconds of my life I spent reading it. Joe trying to stir something out of nothing.
You can believe in coincidences all you want, even the tooth fairy, too. You consistently complain about the website yet continue to read it. Strange. –Joe

  6. SteveK Says:

He must have a distaste for ice cream and Uber rides?

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Smart of Curry not to mention a player other than the ones he knows personally…..he’d have to mention others like LVD, Kwon….pretty soon it would be a 20 minute press conference….also, Curry is very smart to avoid the wrath of Tmaxcon…..don’t compliment GMC without serious consequences…..

  8. tmaxcon Says:

joe why would anyone bring up a career loser like cancer93… there are only a select few of you boneheads left who worship the ground of this overrated pathetic buc who has gone his entire worthless career without a single meaningful win… curry has playoff victories under his belt it’s not like he can learn anything from cancer93. they make blowup dolls that can provide more leadership than our defensive captains.

  9. buddah Says:

    Nothingberger

  10. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Now why would curry bring up a DT that is a no show/ ghost on Sundays anyways. ….

……his no name dropping is more than a statement about the pathetic play of Mr Ice cream man.

  11. Leon Brown Says:

I wouldn’t have said their names either, every player that said they was excited to play next to Gerald performed not too well…. I applaud him for come here not because he wants to play next to McCoy

  12. Joeypoppems Says:

Look at it like this Joe….

Most if not all the FAs that mention GMC and Jameis haven’t lived up to expectations lol

  13. Jeffbuc Says:

The bucs realist I like your trade except get them to switch there 1st with us. Then we can get Chubb. And then draft a running back and defensive tackle in the second round and then whatever corner falls in to the third and 4th. Then another defensive end in the 5. A qb that falls into the 6th. And a nickel corner slash kick returners in the 7th. We need to draft a young qb to develop into a backup. And iff he does a couple spot starts and does good with all our weapons we can do like New England and keep trading a qb every couple of years for a decent draft pick.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

nonissue….I barely notice GMC myself…..and after playing next to fletcher cox, curry shouldn’t mention GMC…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN201018!!!!!!….NOPASSESIN2018!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!

  15. tmaxcon Says:

let’s see how long it takes for cancer93 to suck he life and desire to win out of the latest free agent. by week for he should be a buccaneer man losing quietly and making excuses for lack of effort.

  16. BucFamous Says:

I’m dumbfounded…..by this article, not their press conferences.

I feel like somebody slipped something into Joe’s cheerios this morning. He’s shipping off Beckwith and picks for a one spot jump in the morning, and he’s reading minds in the afternoon.

    Love ya Joe, but…yawn.

  17. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    ^

Yeah Fletcher Cox…..is TWICE the DT that GMC could ever be…..

  19. Lamarcus Says:

    Maybe both are being traded?

  20. Lord Cornelius Says:

Watching the PC sounds like they were just answering the questions for the most part. Winston was brought up late with Jensen and he basically said he’s excited to work with him but most questions directed them towards other specific subjects that didn’t really have anything to do with GMC/Jameis.

  21. AlteredEgo Says:

So Buckner was brought in to do the dirty work ?
I really don’t care…I want a team attitude and signs of traction

  22. BigHogHaynes Says:

Players who come to play don’t get the life sucked out of them by anyone ….but a dumbass fan sure could suck the life out of you! TRUMPMAXCON STAY ON THE BLACK! WHO WILL BE YOUR NEXT SCAPGOAT! SO SICK OF THE MEANINGFUL GAME BULL!! CONTINUE TO BUILD THE WALL!!’

  23. tmaxcon Says:

    AlteredEgo

buc fan claims they want toughness and nastiness but the first 15 yd penalty and half the damn fan base will start crying bad character yada yada yada

buckner better be renting he tries to pull the tough guy routine with cancer93 and he will be run out of town just like the previous failed coaches everyone was so excited to have

  24. DB55 Says:

If Suh signs with the Rams. Whoa.

Just goes to show what a little biatch GMC really is.

  25. pick6 Says:

no buc player has a “gotta play with this guy” track record after last season. would be disingenuous of these new signings to act like it had something to do with having strong opinions about star players on a team the league stopped caring about in October circa the 2-5 mark.

  26. AlteredEgo Says:

might be different this time…hence the hit man….Buckner has credibility as a recent DL player coaching McCoy and the rest…Jameis knocked him off half the perch coming into his second year…

  27. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    The Buc Realist

    I was think the samething

Also trading DeSean to San Fran, Cinny or Buffalo – for one of their 3rd or 4th round picks

  28. K2 Says:

    Huge Huge Nothing!

  29. AlteredEgo Says:

DeSaen deserves to go to a QB that can hit him in stride…what a waste of talent playing with Jameis

  30. JA Says:

Stirring the soup with another trivial attempt to go mountain climbing on a molehill. What is this, FOX News?
Hey, did you see Jameis putting on his shoes last week without mentioning the sponsor of the said, free shoes? I find that odd. Can it mean that he is at odds with the sponsor and will soon dump them?

  31. GhostofSchiano Says:

It was surprising. And Joe doesn’t care what questions were lobbed at Curry, no mention of McCoy is out of the ordinary

That’s easy Joe, Curry is a TMAXCON guy.

  32. JonBuc Says:

At this point…maybe they don’t deserve to be mentioned….hopefully that changes.

  33. Buc4life Says:

    AlteredEgo

Jameis deserves a WR that will fight for a ball and show up to activities that aren’t mandatory to work with his new teammates. Desean is a pussy and should have never signed him. I hope Godwin gets all his snaps. Put the punk on KR duty all he’s good for unless his dumbass gets locked up for weed or hollow points

  34. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    TBC

    IPotential Trades Gerald McCoy

    70 San Francisco
    75 Oakland
    77 Cincinnati
    86 Kansas City
    87 LA Rams

Note: Don’t shocked if we move Ali Marpet.

When you fail to field a competitive team – while your Rookie QB is still on his Rookie deal. This are the types of moves you’ve gotta make.

  35. Horse Liver Says:

Joe is flabbergasted because a guy whgo just won a super bowl doesn’t call out by name dudes he’s never met on a 5-11 team?

HE mentioned the dudes he knows. Former Eagles. Good. I’m tired of the pandering, empty praise for leaders of a 5-11 team does nothing.

Good hire, now have his attitude along with Buckner’s infect the Bucs locker room like MRRSA virus only positive.

  36. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

Until we start winning, only the media puts a “franchise” face on this team.
What good is any “franchise” face that loses all the time?

Either the team will waste their talent..Ex: Barry Sanders
or build around them and win…Ex: Walter Peyton

I kinda like how the Bucs are actually starting to build a little something here.
Getting rid of the proven loser dead weight.

I like how they don’t seem to give a crap about Winston or McCoy.
Shut up and play attitude is best. Hopefully, the rest of this team will take notice of that.

  37. AlteredEgo Says:

^^^….the Kwon and Marpet part is not even worth acknowledging….but I just did….I am flabbergasted !

  38. Pelbuc Says:

Why mention 2 losers. Both JW and GMC need to grow up, shut up and produce.

  39. Architek Says:

Super Bowl winners don’t speak about those kind of players.

  40. Defense Rules Says:

@TheBucsAnthem … “Yeah Fletcher Cox…..is TWICE the DT that GMC could ever be.” Really Anthem? Twice the DT? Last year Cox made the Pro Bowl … 14 games, 5.5 sacks, 15 tackles, 11 assists, 607 defensive snaps. GMC also made the Pro Bowl … 15 games, 6 sacks, 33 tackles, 14 assists, 806 defensive snaps. I personally think Fletcher Cox is an excellent DT, but GMC outperformed him in 2017 (despite being hurt too). The big difference is that Cox was surrounded by some pretty good talent, allowing him to play less than 60% of Philly’s defensive snaps & stay fresh. GMC didn’t have that same luxury, since he was on the field for over 75% of the Bucs defensive snaps. OK, cue tmaxcon.

  41. unbelievable Says:

    :: yawn ::

  42. ElioT Says:

Everyone around here is supposed to “change the culture” except for the one of guys who’s been here the longest, is one of the highest paid, and a supposed “face of the franchise” – LMAO

JBF – “We can lose without McDonald’s 5.5 sacks”

Well we can also lose without McCoy and his 6.0 sack, and his huge salary and his weak loser mentatlity spreading through the team.

McCoy gets the unltimate pass becuase of his draft position and “talent”.

    Bunch of biased crap.

  43. Jeremy Says:

I wouldn’t read too much into that Joe.

  44. Tobi Says:

Joe as always making up stuff
Running out of things to write
Guy got paid is the hat simple same as the center who could care less who is he snapping to

  45. SCBucsFan Says:

Funny I guess McCoy is snowing all the people who constantly vote him all pro too. Oh I know, all pro means nothing, it has nothing to do with your talent. It’s because of his huge social media team fooling the voters.

  46. tmaxcon Says:

    Defense Rules

cox performs when it matters most while cancer93 comes out flat or disappears when it matters most. Cox has actually won games that matter where as cancer93 has not and never will as a buc

  47. NFLNut Says:

I believe Kwon, Donovan and Ali will all get extended, not traded … I’d be in favor of GMC and DJax being traded though as long as the compensation was fair.

  48. NFLNut Says:

This is a non-story … Curry spoke about his former teammates and the D-Line coach that called him …

Was Jensen specifically asked any questions about Jameis or GMC? If not, why would he mention them?

    A total non-story imho.

  49. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

Look @Joe…….@Bucs365 was correct in being near the mark. These are guys giving press conferences in often 24-48-72 hour whirlwinds of free agency plane trips seeing all sorts of personnel executives, yada yada yada. They stand up there, yes with good new contracts, and try to do the right thing. NOT incessantly coached up by their agents like the fools at the combine!?!

They don’t owe a dude with a mic sitting in the plush auditorium Bucs seating anything.
Who said they owe somebody something? Man, you are creative. –Joe
Cut them a break already. No new arrival needs to bow to the Jameis statue, that’s baseless till at least the playoffs or Superbowl. And we know how GMC hasn’t done 1/2 of what Sapp did for this franchise, so there’s that.

    This crowd…man.

    Go Bucs!!

  50. Cover Deuce Says:

    Much ado about nothing.

  51. Milenko Says:

    #JoeConspiracyBucsFan

  52. The Buc Realist Says:

you would think that the so called team captain gmc would be there to kiss his ring!!!!!!! I guess there were not enough camera’s and not about him!!!!!!!!

The Smoke screen was so thick that the sheep could not see and were jumping ship left and right!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. Ndog Says:

Love this site but at times reaching like this are just silly. These guys have been looking at places to live, contracts, talking to former teammates, looking at scheme fits and talking with their families about what they want to do. So they didnt proactively mention Jameis or McCoy man those guys must be getting cut soon. SMH give me a break.

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Oh please…

  55. gotbbucs Says:

When McCoy actually does something on the field of some consequence, then he can be offended by a lack of a mention. Until then……shhhh.

  56. BrianBucs Says:

Curry just won a championship. He doesn’t have to patronize anybody, especially guys that haven’t won anything

  57. ElioT Says:

    BrianBucs^^^^

    Exactly…

Who gives a sh*t about players who’ve done NOTHING except for generate stats and Pro-Bowls.

This is the attitude that needs to be on this team.

Nobody should be looking to McCoy to lead, let someone with the balls and mentality take over.

    Trade McCoy.

  58. VA BUC Says:

Ira should take over the whole blogs a true Bucc lover this ish Joe spits out makes me itch. Biggest hypocrite of them all will swing one way and run thee other if Jameis and McCrybaby was not the reason he came to Tampa so be it their here all that matters and Mr.Curry will have a way better carrer in Tampa than Ayers did

  59. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

Some are Mike Florio…..and many are not.

Well done Jason…. in the past few days, and please keep ALL of the Buc faithful’s SA-QUON, Say-gone Barkley draft capital fruit available for rounds 1-4 in 2018-2020, which it still is!!

Someone wise once said…”best laid plans are for those watching”. Hmm…

For the future Bucs sake, let’s not “watch”. Let’s go take him, Licht!

    Go Bucs!

  60. Mike Johnson Says:

One never knows..Curry probably never mentioned Jameis or McCoy because he..does not know them. He mentioned the guys he’s played with. He probably wants to come here and..play his heart out maybe? (that would be a good Buc change of pace!) One never knows. Maybe..Just maybe this guy is all business?
Perhaps he wants to establish himself a rep here like Jameis and McCoy? I sorta get the feeling Curry might be better at DE than what we already have. man, I sure hope so!! And Maybe Curry has an attitude like..Screw what you got here in TB already…..Now I’m here to make a difference. And to me? Thats all good! Cause this team needs meaness and toughness on Defense!!

  61. Reach87 Says:

    Trollbait worked. Go Bucs.

  62. Eric Says:

Well if Gerald was a beast and other players around the league thought that, the first words would be, “I can’t wait to play with that guy”

It’s at least interesting he didn’t say that..

I mean do u think a guy traded to the bucs of sapp era would say something about Sapp? Of course.

  63. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    SMH.. 😲

  64. tmaxcon Says:

    Reach87

when they get rid of the crying clown are you going to need a safespace???

  65. BuccaneEric75 Says:

This might mean something. Might not. It is kind of strange the the QB and only good DLman on the team didn’t get a shout out. I don’t know much about Curry or Allen, so I won’t rush to judgment, but players who just won a ring and get to free agency sometimes just sign thier next deal just for the money. They already won the SB and the money becomes thier priority. I don’t think that’s really a knock on a player, after all, most players play the game for the money and a chance to win. Once they’ve won, it becomes about maximizing the money while you can. Maybe they’ll come here and play thier ass off to keep winning, or they’ll go through the motions for the paycheck. Only time will tell. Hopefully they’ll use the fact that the Eagles determined that they weren’t good enough players keep on a SB squad as motivation to prove them wrong. That’s my hope and it’s all I’ve got.

  66. Reach87 Says:

    Worked like a champ.

  67. Buc believer Says:

Might be because he likes Chocolate ice cream with hot fudge while Batman err GMC likes peppermint ice cream with rainbow 🌈 sprinkles.

  68. Gambelero Says:

Curry: “Who made the best offer?”
    Curry’s agent: “Tampa Bay”
    Curry: “Thought they were relegated”
Agent: “Yeah. They’ve been out of the league for most of the last ten years, but they got back in somehow. Do you want me to say no and sign you up with a real team?”
Curry: “No. No. I’ll take the money. All that other stuff is overrated.”
Agent: “Done. You’ll have to go there, take a physical and meet with the local media.”
    Curry: “What should I Say?
Agent: “Just tell the truth. Say ‘I wanted to come here because of the history of success, the head coach and coordinators winning records and their track record of putting a tough, physical team on the field and the owners demonstrable lack of stupidity as evidenced by and championships they’ve

  69. Gambelero Says:

As evidenced by their record since taking over from their father.’”
    Curry: Should I mention anyone?
Agent: They don’t have anyone worth mentioning. They haven’t had a franchise tag worthy player in forever. Buckner is there. They just signed Allen…

  70. Crockett69 Says:

    Hey Joes,
Bucs 365 is playing the party pooper. Everybody that slams your thoughts and reporting is just pissed that they didn’t think of your idea first, or they are liberals…. The Commish is so right in his podcast. Be a supporter of your team. Doesn’t matter if you are right or wrong period. Support the Home Team! I wish more true Bucs fans would listen. If you are a negative Nancy then go somewhere else. We don’t need you here on this site. Hey JoeBucsFan’s try to peer through the forest. Mayhaps you see the trees. Guys who get paid a lot of money spend a lot of time thinking about what we are b’s’ing about.
    Go Bucs 2018

  71. Doug RR Martin Says:

    Also, damn well said Crockett69

  72. MadMax Says:

Its refreshing….culture change is here! Keep it up Buckner, Coach K and Licht.

  76. CrackerK Says:

Joe, don’t get your panties in a wad. This team needs a new attitude and hopefully these guys will kick some @$$ and take some names in this wuss locker room.
