Bucs No. 5

November 1st, 2017

Decisions.

Despite the Bucs having a losing record and their offense shatting all over itself Sunday like an infant after eating a jar of peach mush, Joe brings a glimmer of joy into the world.

The Bucs currently hold the No. 5 pick in the 2018 draft!

Yes, it’s that kind of season when a team enters November with but two wins. The Bucs are a loss away from going into full-blown draft mode.

So, per Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball.com, if the season ended today and the Bucs had the fifth pick in the draft, who shall it be?

Nick Chubb, Harold Landry, Saquon Barkely or Bryce Love?

  1. WillieG Says:

I am beginning to lose faith in Licht, so I’m not so sure the 5th overall pick will solve anything.

  2. DB55 Says:

Anything other than a DE would be absolutely stupid but that’s what you can expect from a guy that make draft decisions overs a few pitchers at the local wing spot. What a joke!

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Joe

I don’t think I have ever remember reading the words “shat” or “shatting” in multiple sports articles in such a short period of time.

  4. DB55 Says:

Dallasbuc warmed us about licht but we didn’t listen. This dude is inept and I truly believe now that it was Jon Robinson pulling the strings all along. But wtf do I know.

  5. Pawel Says:

My life is getting short every year, I want them to win now, go ahead and pull out tricks and treats from your a$$ and win some games to finish strong this season, starting this week. Do whatever it takes.

  6. deminion Says:

i watched Chubb on youtube last night lol i like him alot he is a REAL DE. Thats my pick!! watched Bryce Love dude is homerun hitter !! but give me Chubb

    NO!!!

Don’t win anymore……just tank baby! …..tank the season

We wanna be in the running for Saquaon Barkley or some other impact player in the top 10.

  8. Warrenfb12 Says:

Yuck. Top 5 pick with this roster and these expectations…

  9. Buc believer Says:

Great Jason you have the number 5 pick… are you going to draft a holder for the kicker this time?

  10. DallasBuc Says:

Thanks DB55. You are the only one that will admit it that was right and have been right for years despite the idiotic backlash I received for being too “negative” as if that had any bearing on anything important.
Wanting to like certain suits, coaches and players clouds your vision and ends up being how you can watch the same game and come away with completely conclusions about what you just saw. For example, we cannot run the football because our oline is clearly getting smashed at the point of attack and defensive fronts are taking up full time residence in our backfield but somehow the running back sucks.
Time to stop running cover for our sacred cows like Jason Licht and Donovan Smith because it makes you feel better about your choice to like these guys that clearly suck.
We will remain mediocre unless we demand better from this organization at all levels. Anyone tired of getting humiliated a couple of games a year and being non-competitive in most other games? I am sick of this sht and all of you should be too.

  11. JonBuc Says:

Two mistakes here that I see…I believe Joe means Bradley Chubb…Nick Chubb is a good Georgia running back…not a top ten talent, however. Secondly, Licht’s Out probably won’t be around to outsmart the league with his selection.

  12. uckinator Says:

The Bucs will win just enough to move out of an impact draft pick. Just like last year’s last game. Winning it meant NOTHING !. But we still won. That’s just how we roll.

  13. Birdman Says:

Barkley, Chubb, Ferrell, and Connor Williams, we’re gonna get at least one of those on the baord at 5…👌

  14. martinii Says:

We have to keep our Chubb’s straight. Nick Chubb is RB out of Georgia and Bradley Chubb is DE Stand out. I say draft them both, Chubb it. BucsAnthem:
I am with you, I am old and every win is a good day for me, so I say win every game you can. Do whatever it takes.

  15. Phil Says:

If we keep playing the way we have been we can improve upon that. This team is a joke.

  16. SKBucs Fan Says:

No doubt we are in line for a good pick but I wouldn’t put it past Licht to waste it on a position we don’t need or isn’t warranted. He’s likely thinking he can draft another TE or a kicker with that pick.
Licht needs to be replaced before the season is over. We are already into next year country and we can’t afford to have him screw up another draft. Maybe we can trade Licht to the Cheatriots for Tom Brady’s jockstrap…On second thought that may be too high of a price.

  17. bucster Says:

Best kicker still on the board!

  18. passthebuc Says:

if………if’s and buts werre candy and nuts

………. we would all have a merry Christmass

  19. Defense Rules Says:

November 1st and Bucs media & fans are already talking about Good News … we might come in last and win the lottery. Bucsville is turning into a very, very sad place if that’s all that we have to look forward to. On the other hand, good spin Joe. Washington will be calling soon with a job offer.

  20. passthebuc Says:

And……… Joe, you forgot to add a QB

  21. 813bucboi Says:

The Bucs currently hold the No. 5 pick in the 2018 draft!

DAMN…ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR ALREADY!!!!…LOL….

and “fans” want to keep this clown…#underachieve…..GO BUCS!!!

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

Theres still a chance for us to move up to no 3 or 4 in draft. Thats the good news. The bad news is..Them Saints will be ready in New Oeleans come Sunday!

  23. BucFanFromOH Says:

Licht gonna prove you all wrong and draft a waterboy we could have otherwise signed as an UFA.

  24. Volbuc1 Says:

Really? We had the number 1 draft pick a few years ago and we are still at the bottom. How is this good news??? You think 1 draft pick is going to change our situation? Give me a break! It all starts with coaching!!

  25. BFFL Says:

My guess is Licht will pick the one that is small, slow and mentally weak

  26. richardtyson Says:

We need a LT, DE, and a DB more than we need a RB. When we can properly cover WRs, run and pass block, and create pressure on the QBs then we can start talking RB.

  27. ClodHopper Says:

It’s gotta be a receiver that’s 6’10” has go go gadget arms and hands soaked in stickem. If he could jump like a grasshopper that would be ideal too!

  28. Q Says:

Trade the pick away for a couple defensive linemen

  29. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I am so sick of always losing, and the wait till next year crap.

  30. SOEbuc Says:

DE is the need. Get Simeon to come and be a defensive ends coach that includes Bradley Chubb.

  31. unbelievable Says:

I’m done with this garbage. see you guys on Sunday.

  32. Dexfields22 Says:

I think we won’t know what type of player we will take until we k ow who the GM and maybe a new D Coordinator. This 4-3 D line isn’t worth being around!!Its 3-4 time

  33. BoJim Says:

    DE please.

  34. LakeLand Says:

If Jason Licht is still the GM. It would be another wasted high draft pick. Why get excited over it?

  35. Dlavid Says:

This conversation so early in the season is making me want to hurl already !

  36. Bucsfanman Says:

@DB55- Even if he’s a game-changer like Barkley? I mean I’m with you. We need d-line, d-line, and d-line. BUT! Can you pass on a guy like THAT?

  37. DallasBuc Says:

So a GM poll throughout the season is not useful how? I think it is rather useful to know what the fanbase thinks of the guy in charge of football operations throughout the season. Can you remind me again what it is hurting to run a GM poll and why the mere suggestion is prevented from posting in the comments? Afraid others may agree to want their voices be heard? Just asking very innocent questions that will no doubt get me banned!
Joe has already written in the comments that the GM poll will come out at midseason, aka next week. The only thing that gets you constantly moderated is your hateful often malicious commentary that forces Joe into babysitting mode. –Joe

  38. Grt2 Says:

We need D line and O line help …

  39. Not there yet Says:

If this team picks in the top ten of next year’s draft then licht should not be the one making that pick. We’ve seen this movie before. The entire league knows he’s in need of defensive line help so we’ll have to give up draft picks to keep people from jumping ahead of us or just go all out and give up as many draft picks as we can to get a running back and as many defensive lineman as we can

  40. Joeypoppems Says:

Honestly, I would draft pass rushers woth our 1st AND 2nd round picks. Get a RB in the 3rd.

  41. BucThis Says:

No way we pick up Barkley. San Francisco gonna snag him now that they got JG10. We definitely go defense round 1 pick 9.

  42. BigMacAttack Says:

I’m still a fan of Licht and Koetter, but I think Dirk should let Monken call the plays. He can’t do any worse. Defense looked better and I think they can salvage the season. Beat the Saints first. I hate the Saints and their fans suck. If you want a top DE in the draft, trade up and get him. Go Bucs!!!

  43. Buc'n Since I Was 10 Says:

Licht is going to keep trading out of the pick and out of the first round.

  44. BucThis Says:

We already wasted McCoys talent can we not do it to Winston and Evans too?
    #GoodByeDirkandMike #HelloHarbaugh

  45. BigMacAttack Says:

I really like GMC but if they lose to the Ain’ts it’s time to put him on the block and get a first round pick or a great DE. I’d trade Swaggy too, fat and lazy. Doug Martin too if the price is right. Also in the Draft we need a good OT to replace Dotson because he is very inconsistent.

  46. BigMacAttack Says:

Every time I see Conte play I have to ask if this is as good as it gets. So he makes and occasional pick after getting burned repeatedly.

  47. BigMacAttack Says:

I’m also not opposed to making Mike Smith the head coach.

  48. BucFanFromOH Says:

@BigMacAttack you realize we are past the trade deadline right?

  49. DB55 Says:

    Bucfan

Yea man, consider this we took O.J. at 19. Dalvin Cook has 11 receptions on the year and O.J. has 13. O.J. has played 4 more games? 4.5 maybe.

So what’s the point? Why waste a pick on someone who isn’t even going to touch the ball?

Consider this last Sunday in the 2nd qrt(?) Koetter calls a play for Djax in the flat on 2&12. He picks up 4 yards in the flat. Next play Koetter calls the same play to hump on the right side. It’s 3&8 and hump is expected to beat Thomas Davis for 8 yards and a first down. He gained 6 yards time to punt.

Of course the geniuses on jbf will say that’s Winston’s fault. My question is wtf isn’t O.J. in the game on 3rd&8. Wtf are you throwing to hump? You have Evans Brate and O.J. why is hump even in the game?

So yes just draft a DE cuz what’s the point? We rushed the ball 19 Times. What’s the point, we could draft Hunt and Koetter would have him on the bench while Winston throws 50 times.

  50. Lord Cornelius Says:

Yeah Jason Light has SUCKED with his high 1st round picks.

Mike Evans, Jameis Winston, VHIII, OJ Howard.

I think there’s only 1 player on that list that people have had issues with; and he has just had 2 weeks of great play…The comments on here never add up with reality. Like at least try not being completely delusional guys. I know the losing can rot our brains but jesus christ.

So far LIght is close to batting 100% in the 1st round. At worst 75%. The league average is worse than that.

2nd round is 50% on average for the league in terms of busts.

2014 – ASJ = bust. Bad mental evaluation.
2015 – Donavon Smith – still the best OT from that draft class lol. Hasn’t missed a start at LT and is at worst an average LT with how bad most O-lines are today.
2015 – Ali Marpet – our best O-lineman and a center piece for years.
2016 – Noah Spence – our best pass rusher by far when he was healthy. You want to blame Light for an injury go ahead but he didn’t have a history of it. Solid pick we all loved that just has had bad luck and still could be a cornerstone player if he can get over this shoulder sh1t.
2016 – Roberto Aguyao – BUST – his worst pick by far.
2017 – Justin Evans – has been starting and holding his own.

So out of 6 draft picks; we can only say 2 are definitive busts.

So 4/6 or 66% vs league average of 50%.

Light hasn’t done that great in FA but even that is typically a 50/50 proposition and he’s probably right around that rate. In terms of the draft he has statistically been better than average.

You want to really evaluate Light objectively? Build a big 4ss spreadsheet of all 32 teams; and all FA pickups over the time LIght has been here; to show who has done well and who has failed. Same thing with draft picks by round.

I am pretty sure the Dallasbuc’s of this site would be completely shocked over those results; because they wouldn’t line up with their delusional thoughts that LIght is one of the worst GM’s in the league.

Also – do what I just described for Mark Dominic. Then you’ll probably think twice about saying we should just dump this guy.

I don’t think LIght’s a top GM or anything. I’m just saying he’s also not one of the worst. I also don’t see ANYONE suggesting who the next GM should be – so you’re basically just throwing sh1t on the wall because you don’t know who else to blame anymore lol

  51. BucFanFromOH Says:

    DB55

Totally agree. If we are gonna take OJ @ 19 because he’s some once in a generation TE then he needs to be on the field every offensive snap. I thought that was the whole point of taking him, that he didn’t need to come off the field and defenses couldn’t key on personnel and figure out the plays? Clearly he’s better at that screen than Hump. Honestly between Brate/OJ and Evans/DJax/Godwin I don’t see why Hump is EVER on the field.

    —————
You kid but it’s true. If you see the ball is being thrown high all game (bc of the wind wink wink) then why not just use your tallest receivers? Instead you want to throw to hump and Djax. Whatever man.

Here’s the other thing I’m doing as a oc. I’m going after Luke kuechley. The whole first qrt I’m designating 2 people just to hit him. No rhyme no reason, I’m aiming to see if I can give him another concussion before the 2nd half. Forget points forget yards forget everything. It’s kill the man with the ball and Luke got the ball on every play.

You got to hate your competition within those 60mins in between those lines. We can hang out later and laugh at the as whooping we gave you. But we soft bro super duper Uber soft.

  53. Buc Fan in NC Says:

DB55 to pile on about Dirk. Why, when we go empty backfield, we don’t ever go 4 wr? It’s always a rb te and 3 wr. Our rbs are better receivers than Godwin? Dirk is clearly over his head.

  54. DB55 Says:

And to think we let a captain go to keep hump. And oh by the way Shep had better Acher ages than hump. So did Freddy Martino. #priviledge.

  55. DB55 Says:

    Buc in nc

I’m going to guess bc Winston can’t throw? Bc he’s inaccurate? Not sure but I’m sure it’s bc Winston sucks.

  56. Buc Fan in NC Says:

Plus a top 5 pick guarantees we clean house next year. Licht will not be renewed and a new GM will bring in his guy. Plus we either draft DE or LT. Both are major needs.

  57. ClodHopper Says:

Wind? He’s been throwing high his entire career!! He’s been over throwing his entire career. He’s been not hitting receivers in stride… you guessed it, his entire career. That’s why we need super human receivers. A mere mortal can not catch these balls. Not every game or all game. Just when bad Jameis is playing which more often than not.

  58. NFLNut Says:

Any GM that picks Chubb ahead of Saquon Barkley should be immediately FIRED by his own imo … Barkley is the best all-around “talent” since Marshall Faulk!

Anyways, I honestly think Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen and Josh Allen will all go #1-3 and I’m guessing that will be to the Browns, Jets and Giants (unless a team like the Cardinals jumps ahead of the Giants).

I then think #4-6 in no particular order will be Saquon Barkley, Arden Key and Lamar Jackson.

If I absolutely was forced to “predict” the top 6 picks and teams right now, I’d say:

    Browns: Sam Darnold
Jets (trade with 49ers): Josh Allen
Cardinals (trade with Giants): Josh Rosen
    Bears: Arden Key
    Giants: Saquon Barkley
    Jets: Lamar Jackson

Personally I doubt we pick before the #10 pick when all is said and done … but Bryce Love, Nick Chubb and some solid DE’s and CB’s should certainly all be on the board at that slot …

  59. DB55 Says:

That’s what Koetter blamed it on the wind. Lol.

Typo in draft … it should be:

    Browns: Sam Darnold
Jets (trade with 49ers): Josh Allen

    Bears: Arden Key
    49ers: Saquon Barkley
    Giants: Lamar Jackson

  61. Buc Fan in NC Says:

Jameis will never be good enough for some. But he’s a great young qb with his arrow going up if we can get a real OC that can utilize the talent we have. I like Haley and McDaniels. Those guys offensive personnel groupings and play design are top notch. It’s no coincidence Brady and Big Ben have their greatest years under them.

  62. Buc Fan in NC Says:

Sunday was just a bad day and every qb has them. Jameis will bounce back. Watch

  63. DB55 Says:

I’d take mike Sullivan at this point.

  64. Bucsfanman Says:

DB55- My caveat would be a different play-caller for the very reasons you mention. With what we have now, I agree. If someone else was calling the shots? Well, like I said, Barkley’s one of those players.
Something HAS to get done about the trenches. D-line first. We should have more sacks by accident at this point than we do now.

  65. PRBucFan Says:

    Chubb all the way

Man is a beast and his non stop motor reminds me of a Watt type of guy.

  66. Greg Says:

If Barkely falls to us we need to get him, end of story

  67. wewantgruden Says:

we are at the 5 position now but will be 1 or 2 by seasons end. Which I truly hope we get a QB with some sort of intelligence. One that does not fold like an old lawn chair when they have to throw the ball with success against anything other than prevent D. One that convert a third down. One that has “it”. Jameis does not posses winning characteristics. He got luck at FSU being surrounded by a great group of Athletes and playing in the ACC when it was way down. Let’s send this clown and the head coach to the circus where they belong.

  68. nate123456 Says:

Are there any pass rushers in this draft? Drop the hold D-Line and draft a new one cant be any worse maybe find a real pass rusher.. Mccoy ant worth the money either…

  69. NFLNut Says:

    wewantgruden,

please don’t ever speak about “intelligence” as if it’s something you’re even remotely familiar with … and check yourself into a facility … they might be able to help you

  70. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    WEWANTGRUDEN,

I know you’re just a low-IQ, idiotic troll and JW-hater, some people may actually believe your lunacy.

JAMEIS HAD A **** HIGHER **** WONDERLIC SCORE THAN:

    DAN MARINO
    BEN ROETHLISBERGER
    BRETT FAVRE
    DAK PRESCOTT
    TERRY BRADSHAW
    DEREK CARR
    JIM KELLY

By they way Jameis scored 35% HIGHER than Derek Carr and a whopping 68.75% HIGHER than HOF’ers Jim Kelly and Bradshaw!

Jameis was a perfect 4.0 student in H.S., got an ACADEMIC full ride scholarship offer from Stanford, plans to be a podiatrist after his football career is over and again, blows many HOF QBs and top young QBs out of the water on the Wonderlic which you touted simply because Harvard grad Fitz scored high … heck, I SCORED A 43 on it … maybe I’d better than HOF QBs … LOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  72. ClodHopper Says:

Oh I get now. Haha. My bad

  73. wewantgruden Says:

NFL”NUT”, which is a fitting name. Get over your Jameis man-crush AKA “dumb as a bag of hammers”. I will have forgot more than you ever know by the time I complete this message. I myself am a retired Urologist with at one time 22 offices throughout South Florida. Retired at 42. I have worked with many docs over my career and had many residence under my supervision. To that end, I do not recall any of them making statements with “I gotsta” OR “I aint”. He will never become a doctor. Do you recall the post game interview on ESPN after the national championship game….you could barley understand what he was saying. His brain is not wired to make sound decisions under pressure. I am sure he is a nice guy in person but it is what it is. He will never have success in the NFL. He reminds me of that Jeff George guy.

  74. Joeypoppems Says:

Idk. Imo Nick Chubb and Bryce Love arent even worth 1st round picks, let alone top 10. Maybe Guice gets into top 10 talk by draft time. Barkley will probably end up going #2 to the 49ers if I had to guess.

Imo, they cant rely on Noah Spence. He has struggled with injury and he shouldnt he penciled in as “the guy” as he was coming into this year.

Double up on pass rushers with the 1st and 2nd round picks. And guys with good size that wont get manhandled like Noah. Especially if we stay with a base 43 defense.

Bradley Chubb in the 1st. Maybe Sam Hubbard or Arden Key fall into the early 2nd. Then RB in the 3rd.

  75. LakeLand Says:

The “Contributions” of Jason Licht High Draft Picks. And I mean , after the firing of Lovie, when he gained complete control of the draft.

    TE O.J.Howard (Backup on a 2-5 team) 1st Round

SS Justin Evans ( Backup On a 2-5 team) 2nd Round

CB Vernon Hargreaves ( Nickel Back on a 2-5 team) 1st Round

PK Roberto Aguayo ( Carolina Panthers Practice Squad) 2nd round

DE Noah Spence ( Injury Reserve) 2nd Round

I wouldn’t exactly call this success

By the way, people with a Southern drawl or that speak in a modern way has nothing to do with intelligence … many people can fit in in various situations and speak far differently in a sport or family setting than they would in a business setting or far differently than they would type out a thesis, etc … YOU ARE A LOON that ignores FACTS … I’d hate to have to have you for a doctor as you might tell me to amputate my perfectly healthy leg …

  77. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

Do you trust Licht with a top 5 pick? Do you trust these coaches with coaching that top 5 pick? I sure as hell DON’T.

  78. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

@Buc Fan in NC JW is HURT no bouncing back until AFTER surgery.

  79. BUC MAN Says:

DO YOU REALLY THINK LICHT CAN PICK A PLAYER OF ANY CALIBER, LOOK AT THE SECOND ROUND PICK ON A DAM KICKER , IS THAT GOOD JUDGEMENT HELL NO, , I KNOW THERE WAS A PLAYER AFTER WE PICKED A KICKER IS DOING VERY WELL IN THE NFL, SO LICHT AND COACH KOETTER AND ( THE GLAZER) DONE A POOR JOB AT PICKING PLAYERS…… NO DIVD. TITLES YET OF PLAYOFFS , SUPER BOWELS……………………………….

  80. PRBucFan Says:

lol After all the players he’s brought in is Aguayo going to be everyones go to when trying to prove Licht is a failure? Cause that’s no where near good enough to make your point. And chill the hell out with the caps.

  81. PRBucFan Says:

And there are two starting TEs on the team. OJ is not a backup

VHIII is not the nickel back he just needed a reminder of how they want want him to play so they sat him. Not unheard of in this league. Just called a reality check.

Justin Evans will be starting eventually.

Even though it was by using an extra pick he acquired by moving down for VHIII, ill give you Aguayo.

Noah Spence was a steal in everyones eyes at the time as he was a first round talent. It’s a shame his injuries have kept him off the field, it happens.

And then there’s all the other talent his brought in which are not mentioned. You can one of this years best performing rookies defensively to his finds in Beckwith.

  82. ruggyup Says:

Why all the chatter about an ’18 draft pick at #5? So you get a guy that all here, bloggers, media and other teams go ga ga over. Now just tell me what this coaching staff will do with the new prize. Come on smart guys, what the hell do we do with quality. Be real now.

  83. LakeLand Says:

So your “other” starting TE has 13 receptions? And that’s success for the 19th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft? SMDH

  84. PRBucFan Says:

I mean you can troll the pick all you want, it doesn’t mean it was a bust. He’s shown what he can do when he’s actually utilized, he is an elite talent and not one expert thinks the pick was a bad one.

And most of the weapons on this offense are not producing at the level they are capable of. So make of that what you want.

  85. Joeypoppems Says:

Yea you cant blame Licht for OJ Howard not being involved more. Thats on Koetter.

Jury is still out on VH3 and Spence tho, imo anyway.

  86. Kobe Faker Says:

    Dont worry boys

Grudog is going to build this offense next year around OJ and the short passing game

Hump , martin, and possibly brate(traded cause cant run slants/crosses separate) wont be around

Its all about the dollars. Licht beer and koetter the klown wont sell tickets and corp ad dollars no more

2021 we will have the superbowl in tampa…2018 the drive toward the trophy starts

“I did it before, ill do it again”

    Grudog

At worst we are going to be 7-9… Still holding to it.

doolnutts: I would love if the Bucs go 7-9; that would probably mean a couple of division wins, perhaps starting this weekend! Bucs have thrown away a couple of Ws already in Buffalo and on Thursday night vs the Pats, maybe they can steal a couple and avoid 4-12! Go Bucs!

  92. Evolvingbucfan Says:
