Playoffs?

Unknown SI staffer thinks Bucs could make playoffs.

A number of Bucs fans who watched that facepalm of a second half last Sunday can’t imagine the Bucs in the playoffs.

But an unknown SI.com staffer believes it can still happen.

Even though last week’s game was an embarrassment, this faceless/nameless keyboard-tapper sees legitimate signs of a playoff run by the Bucs. Yeah, really.

Does this team actually have a shot at the playoffs?

It’s been six years since the Buccaneers posted a winning season (2010) and nine since they made the playoffs (2007), but this season may be their best chance to play in January since. Sure, an overtime loss in Week 8 to the beatable Raiders doesn’t help this cause, but Tampa Bay has already notched wins against its division rivals Falcons and Panthers, and the upcoming schedule looks favorable, including games against the Bears and the Chargers.

The Buccaneers’ offense has been hot and cold; it only put up seven points against the top-ranked Cardinals and Broncos, but also hung double-digit points on every other opponent. Tampa Bay’s defense—most notably the secondary—has been spotty as well, giving up the tenth-most passing yards per game. Some consistency, mixed with a little bit of luck, will prove necessary for any sort of playoff contention for the Bucs.

Well, it sure would be nice to somehow beat the Dixie Chicks tomorrow night. If the Bucs could pull that off, it would pull them to 4-4 and within a half-game of the Dixie Chicks for first place.

Joe isn’t sure if injuries have already caught up with the Bucs or not. Next three games will tell.

It’s obvious this team is mentally weak and until they overcome that obsticle or get rid of the cancers in this organization, we are doomed and reaching way too far to think playoffs are in our future.

Let me ask you this? Is this team better than any of the last 9 seasons?
    Tisk Tisk Glazers.

  2. Tampa Bay Tailgater Says:

What kind of defensive tackle says he loves the opposing QB, two days before he plays against him…then tells us he doesn’t care what the fans think!?!?! If he doesn’t care, why should I?

F*CK YOU Gerald McCoy!!! He needs to get cut along with the other mentally weak players.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

This is from si.com, they did this with EVERY team. The woman who wrote this is Jenna Lane.

  4. Miko Says:

somehow, i feel that the teams’ losing mentality will only change with the deletion of mccoy – the ultimate “fake star”

  5. tmaxcon Says:

The only way to fix the mentally weak is to exterminate the mentally weak… 93, 22 and 54 on a raft and float it to Cuba.

  6. bucsfanLOL Says:

We need to at least tie it up. An 8-8 or 7-9 season would be acceptable. We need IMPROVEMENT. No more clean slates!

  7. BCoburn Says:

It would have been tough with the talent we had to begin with. If you consider the injuries as well even some of the better teams would struggle to make the playoffs with this many guys out. Combine the two and I don’t think so. If we did that would mean Falcons flop and it would say more about the division being pathetic than the Bucs being good. Either way pretty much everyone knew we weren’t going to the superbowl after the first 3 or 4 weeks. Hence why we didn’t pull off any trades

  8. JimBo Says:

Win tomorrow night? Zero confidence. i.e. – Not happening!

  9. rayjay1122 Says:

This is not in the spirit of negativity but just reality. Playoffs?? ROFLMAO. What has this team shown anyone to believe they can even win 2 or 3 more games much less enough to get a playoff spot? I see a wildly inconsistent and inaccurate QB, decimated WR and RB positions due to injury, no pass rush which is exposing a very average to below average secondary, poor coaching and play calling and an in-explicit inability to win at home ever. The Falcons will soundly defeat us tomorrow night which means 3-5 and then a Bears team who just beat the Vikings will more than likely beat us also. Also, the AFC West has our number, so I do not see us going to KC or San Diego and getting wins. This team is a hot mess and it is getting worse each week. The only way I see us actually winning games this season is for our defense to figure out how to get to QB’s and how to tackle and for Winston to become accurate with his throws as it seems from what I have witnessed, that his best throws are the intermediate out routes to Evans near the sidelines. Reality sucks!

LVD is still a beast. Trust and believe.

  11. JonBuc Says:

I put the win total from here on out at 2.5 over/under. Until they prove otherwise…they are still the worst team in the NFC South.

  12. VT Buc Says:

I agree about the key players who have been there so long they just expect to lose. You can’t have leaders like that on a team and not expect it to spread to the rest of the players. But while I have seen the continued happy-go-lucky McCoy remain all smiles in the media, he still disappears during the game. At least LVD isn’t spewing sunshine and smiles during the week. And he had some key open field tackles last Sunday. It’s not a pick or sack-fumble, but its improvement.

    Fans are pissed Geraldine.

    Are you?

    Yet?

  15. LakeLandBuc Says:

    Let’s see…we beat a 0-0 Falcons team…we beat a 1-4 Carolina team…..we beat a 1-6 49ers team. And now we’re talking playoffs, hmmm sounds ridiculous.

  16. KY Buc Fan Says:

Some of you fans make me ashamed to be a BUC fan! The Browns have been sh*tty for many yrs but their fans still ride or die with them! A lot of you get to enjoy cheering for your favorite team, win or lose, in the warm Florida sun but cant seem to find any kind of reason to be supportive and be the “12th” man that shows out for Seattle so much! PATHETIC!

Of course not! I’m just sore from that 1 tackle I made on Sunday. I went to get a massage but then the kids won’t let me get my beauty sleep so I’m cranky and the body hurts but why in the world would I be pissed?

  18. Sir clicks a lot Says:

Would you idiots please stop asking to jettison our best player?!!

It’s so tiring to see these comments week after week. It’s clear you have a negative football IQ if you think McCoy is even part of the problem. This team is very young and lacks depth; these things will require time to solve. McCoy is double teamed the majority of snaps and has missed time (playing too many snaps in a brutal position) yet still leads the team in sacks and does so almost every year. GET A GRIP.

  19. 813bucboi Says:

winnable games against the chargers and bears?….has this person seen the bucs play?….after Monday night the bears look like they will smoke us….the chargers are a pass happy team and have been showing ability to rush the passer….not sure we can beat either team….throw in the chiefs, seahawks, cowboys, there’s a serious chance we lose 5 or 6 in a row…as it stands now, our best chances of winning are against teams in our division….GO BUCS!!!!

  20. DB55 Says:

    Sir click

He is not leading in sacks, Noah Spence is you know the rookie who is playing with a hurt shoulder. Yea but facts don’t really matter, plz continue…

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We’d better not make the playoffs!

Look, what good would it do? I think everyone knows that this team isn’t good enough to actually win in the playoffs.

If you can’t win, then why go and get a later draft pick?

Not a person here would keep silent of the Bucs got a wildcard, lost and then missed a key player in the draft by 1-3 picks.

If we cannot actually compete, it is better not to go. Especially when we have almost enough players to reach the right level, and a draft could tie up the loose ends.

Now, if the Bucs go on a 4 game winning streak? That’s a different story…because they might actually win in the playoffs.

But we all know that will not happen.

  22. 813bucboi Says:

@bonzai….that’s crazy talk….I hope we do make the playoffs….what good would it do?….how about build confidence for our entire team….i’ll take it a step further, build confidence in this city and the fans…..sellouts at rayjay would return….if that’s the case, we should just tank the rest of this year and every year we don’t start out 5-0….we all know players in the draft are no guarantees….GO BUCS!!!!

  23. Sir clicks a lot Says:

    DB55

He is still tied for the team lead, facts and all. It’s also fair to point out he would lead the team in assists for sacks if that was a stat too. And he plays hurt every year. So while I love what I’ve seen from Spence so far, I’m nowhere ready to….”crown him, you wanna go ahead crown him?!!”

  24. 813bucboi Says:

@Sir….….”crown him, you wanna go ahead crown him?!!”

that’s one of my favorite sports lines along with…

“they were who we thought they were but we let them off the hook”

“YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME…HELLO”

“playoffs?!?…don’t talk to me about playoffs…im just lucky we can win a game”…

those were classic lines….all three apply to the bucs…GO BUCS!!!!

  25. Joe Says:

LVD is still a beast. Trust and believe.

Don’t know of too many players considered a “beast” who throw up a goose egg in a full game at linebacker, but OK.

  26. Tampa Bay Tailgater Says:

    Sir Clicks A Lot….

He is tied for the team lead in sacks…which might I add is only 3! And he is tied with rookie with extremely limited playing time in Noah Spence. Get a grip dude…at his salary he is not a game changer or influences.teams to adjust their strategy.

You have no argument and they ARE the problem. Finesse and not nasty maniacs that we need. There is a culture issue in this organization and McCoy is part of the culture that needs to go.

  27. Tampa Bay Tailgater Says:

How many GM #93 jerseys do you see in stands like you used to with Sapp, Simeon Rice, DB55, Lynch, Barber, and so on.

They brought a different mentality to the field and organization that we just don’t have with this group. No one believes in these guys but the few like yourself. It’s a fake tough and no one is buying it anymore and as fans…when you compare yourself to the browns like Sir Click…we are in BIG TROUBLE!

Kwon Alexander, Robert Ayers are tough my friend…we need more of that on both sides of the ball. I think Jaboo had it last year but it’s evident he is starting to become part of the culture. Why isnt he calling anyone out anymore? We as fans and the players should not be settling for mediocracy.

  28. DB55 Says:

Not taking the bait joe you too powerful around here and I have an addiction problem with JBF. But thanks for talking to me. 😁

  29. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Of course the SI writer wouldn’t put their name on it. If they did, they’d be out of a job!
