Gottlieb: ASJ Needs Rehab

Radio host suggests rehab.

Radio host suggests rehab.

If tweety former Bucs tight end Austin Seferian-Jankins is going to return to the NFL this season, then he may need rehab.

That’s the belief of CBS Sports Radio’s Doug Gottlieb.

During a segment in which he was yawning and stretching his neck, Gottlieb was asked by a producer what the chances were of ASJ returning to the NFL this season. Gottlieb blurted out “15 percent.”

Then, Gottlieb said the fact ASJ was out at 4 a.m. hammered two days before a game suggests he has real issues. If ASJ’s agent is smart, Gottlieb said, ASJ will immediately check himself into rehab to save his NFL career.

You can see and hear it all for yourself in the CBS Sports Network video below.

Very bad draft choice, to say the least. Yes, he needs to dry out.

  2. Buccfan37 Says:

ASJ who? Oh that guy, may as well be a distant memory once he left the building. Another stab in the dark that missed.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

“They tried to make me go to rehab
    I said, no, no, no
    Yes, I been black
But when I come back, you’ll know, know, know
    I ain’t got the time
And if my daddy thinks I’m fine
He’s tried to make me go to rehab
    I won’t go, go, go”

  4. Mike Johnson Says:

Who the F cares/ ASj is no longer a Buc. I could less than 2 thirds of a deeyam if the guy drinks or get high the rest of his life. Its his life. He made his bed now sleep in it. On to the next TE. Next man up. ASJ did not want to play for Tampa Bay. HE never did. I hope if our defense ever sees him again, they..lay the wood to his sorry A..!!

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

Bucs fans and sheep!!! Its time to take the decisions out of the hands of the less intelligent!!!! It is time to think of solutions!!!! Its time to think of the Future and be progressive!!!!!! It has become obvious that we can not stop the drinking and driving!!! The distracted diving is out of control Just watch all the ones on their phones!!! We have elderly that should not be on the road!!!!! let alone kids that just got their license and speeding everywhere!!!!

That is why that I, The Buc Realist, Considering a run for Mayor of St, Pete!!!! And first on my agenda , Will be the Google Chauffeur Initiative!!! That is right! I want Google to drive all of our cars!!!!! All the money saved from all the advertising of distracted, drunk driving will be enormous!!! Tags will become a one time purchase with it being subsidized in a gas tax! Every car will have a extremely basic insurance that will be subsidized in a gas tax!!! If your car is new or nice you can get Additional coverage with an insurance company!!!!!!

I will solve the “pier” issue!!! I will build 5 piers!!!!! the middle one will be that Kelly Slater wave pool pier!!!! It will make money with contest and open to the general public!!!! the over 4 piers will have fish aquariums and have store, shops, restaurants with huge pedestrian thru ways, that will house the Saturday markets and all the fairs that will be there in the future!!!

The AL lang and Tropicana parking lots will remain as they will become the staging area for the monorail that will take all the sports fans out to the island that will be drudged and will be known as the ” TampaBay Sports Island” ( that is not the final name) that will house all of TampaBay’s Pro Sports!!! This also will be the start of a REAL public transportation in The Bay area!!!!

I will ask StPeteBucfan to be my “deputy mayor” as he be the public figure!!! I myself will make NO public appearances and all my directives will come thru JOEBUCSFAN.com !!!! We can fix so many things and become and example of the Future!!!!! Its time to be progressive !!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!

  6. Joe Says:

    Who the F cares/

Joe does and apparently you did since you read the story.

  7. So Flo Buc Says:

Knowing this stuff now, he was probably drunk when he was kicked out of practice the day of Twittergate.

  8. BucinJax Says:

Hey Realist, go man go. I mean run man run.

  9. Old Time Buc Says:

For once Realist I could get behind you!

  10. DB55 Says:

    Realist

I’ll vote for you but only if Pablo is on the ticket.

  11. DB55 Says:

Man let me tell you guys, when I was ASJs age I used to get so tore up it wasn’t funny. Head out at 12a to the club, shut the club down at 3am then head to the hard rock until the sun came out. All while drink rum out the bottle and Yeager bombs all night long. I would never have been able to meet the strict requirements needed to be a TB buc. I’m guessing that neither would a lot of HOFs either.

But whatever just another name on the super long list of uber talented players jettisoned from the elite franchise that is the TB Bucs and its fan base. Can’t wait to see what Mark Barron does to us on Sunday.

  12. orlbucfan Says:

@Tbbf: Amy Winehouse….Lawd, Gawd, what a tragedy! I have that CD, and she was just maturing that great singing voice when the booze killed her. @Realist: agree with every word, especially voting for @stpetebucsfan. Don’t like dredging though. Too much enviro damage. Central FL has taken enough over-development hits!!

Joe: we need the Countdown Clock tomorrow. That okay?

    Go Bucs!!

  13. The Buc Realist Says:

Of course Pablo is on the ticket!!!! with his experience with “yard maintence” he will be in charge of the park!!!! It will also secure the “latin vote” !!!!!!!

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Gottlieb is guessing, making predictions. His opinion has no more value than mine…or Realist, for that matter.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Realist as Mayor? ROFL! Really????

He’d fire every staff member every other month or so!

  16. Patrick in VA Says:

I have a feeling that this issue might’ve been why dude got ran off the field during training camp. He probably showed up smelling like a distillery and was hung over trying to play football on a summer afternoon in FL. Not surprising that didn’t go well. Speculation, of course, but it stands to reason that there’s a good chance this isn’t his first time pulling a stunt like this

  17. louis Says:

ASJ must be an acronym for another stupid jock…at least in this case it fits!.

  18. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Realist

I’d be honored to be on your ticket. Love your ideas…not sure where you’ll get all the $$$ but all are worthwhile projects.

As for the self driving vehicles they are coming one way or another. And like you I’ll be relieved. If nothing else I think they should put a program in every cell phone that takes it off line whenever a car is in gear. Pull over to make the freaking calls…and texting and driving…how freaking crazy.

BTW for those who care…texting and driving is just a dangerous statistically as drinking and driving. ASJ may have been doing both…tweeting and driving is messed up.

As for ASJ. His loss is insignificant because as Joe points out he hasn’t been an impact player at all.

Here is a weapon we don’t mention much. Brandon Myers…79 catches with Oakland followed by 47 with Eli and the Gmen and he averaged over ten yards per catch in both of those seasons. Perhaps that TD catch in Atlanta was just a preview of things to come.

Bottom line…yeah we’ll miss Doug…but all other systems are GO. Great OL…VJAX..ME..Hump..Brate…and MYERS…along with Sims…We still have plenty of playmakers.

I’d love to see Noah blow up this week and get a couple of sacks…if that happens I love our chances.

  19. 911bucs Says:

    Realist,
I love the wave idea at the pier, genius!!

  20. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Stpetebucsfan

Oh, the money will be rolling in for our program!!! The Restaurants Industry alone will be behind this because everyone can now have a drink or 2 and jump in their car and just say “Home”

The cost of the DMV will come almost off the books, as their is no need for drivers license, and the whole idea of the one time Tag is to keep staff down in what is left of the DMV and make one less thing in life easier!!! and the more you drive the more gas you buy, the more you pay for your tags on going upkeep of records.

And yes, like Buc Bonzai said, some heads will roll!!! Our administration will not put up with wasting time and incompetence!!!!! For we will not sit around doing things the old ways, wondering why it does not work!!!!!

I am tired of watching the news and seeing families and peoples lives crushed from an auto accidents!!!! More people are on the road each year!!! What is the number of injuries and death until something changes!!! Ads and fines and jail time does not seem to be enough deterrent!!!

Some of you think of the benefits as well!!! Tomorrow you could jump in your car!!! and say Raymond James Stadium and crack open a beer!!! watch the pregame TV or Radio on the way while you talk with everyone in the car!!!!!!

Everything on our agenda is how to improve life and to make life simpler!!!! That will be the question put to every program!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!

  21. Turd Koetter Says:

Another blowhard running for office to enrich himself. Like Elaine Benes, I couldn’t vote for all those unnecessary exclamation points. We get it…you’re so damn passionate.

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

Naw joe,,You wrong. I don’t care..not about ASJ. I’m just surprised as hell many here do!!

  23. The Dom is gone... Licht??? Says:

Wasted 2nd round pick… 3rd round RB same draft when RB was our least need… Took 3rd maybe 4th best receiver in the draft #7 overall. Our inability to draft has been the downfall of this franchise for ever! A few diamonds in the rough but over all 35 years of suck!

  24. Joe Says:

3rd round RB same draft when RB was our least need…

So you would be OK with Bucs not having Charles Sims?

Jason Licht once said 90 percent of the reason a player is a bust is from the neck up. He perfectly described ASJ.

  25. Tom S. Says:

DB55, “strict requirements” like, not get your second DUI in 4 years and know the practice formations? Those are strict?

When you were getting blitzed at his age did you have a multimillion dollar contract and play a sport that has an average career span of less than 4 years?

And let’s be clear here, it’s not like there haven’t been rumors about his dedication to football dating back to last season. As Dirk Koetter mentioned, there are things behind the scene he can’t talk about, but if you think it’s just one bad practice and a DUI that got him benched and run out of town I have a bridge to sell you.

  26. MadMax Says:

Well, I cant beat up on the guy too much since I have my own issues too. But man, what a waste of a 2nd round pick. I hope he figures out how to battle his demons…..I know that battle. Watched it from childhood with other fam. Is what it is. Maybe he’ll figure it out maybe he wont. I hope he does for his own sake.

    Life’s too short.
