Give Frazier Back The Keys

Popular sports radio and television personality Adam Schein has an idea to fix the Bucs defense.

Watching the defense of the Bucs — make no mistake, it’s Lovie Smith’s defense — gives Joe gas.

And it has nothing to do with the kraut on Joe’s brats.

The pass defense makes Joe do facepalms all afternoon on gamedays. It’s bad enough Tampa Bay struggles getting quarterbacks on the ground, but that secondary, woof!

The only way Joe finds perverse pleasure is watching Mike Jenkins celebrate after he gets roasted by an opposing wide receiver and sees the pass bounce off his hands.

Of course, Joe gets Twitter messages all the time searching for answers on the roster, but there are no answers. Benching guys now is little more than moving around the furniture.

Popular sports radio and television personality Adam Schein has been researching how Lovie can fix the defense. The answer is on the Bucs sidelines, Schein believes, but not on the roster.

The answer? Give the keys to the defense back to shoved aside defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Schein typed on NFL.com.

Frazier should be calling the defensive plays, while Lovie should focus on managing the team. The head man already has too much on his plate, given that he has full autonomy on the 53-man roster.

Yes, the Bucs are currently 3-4. But they should be 4-3. Two weeks ago, Tampa Bay inexplicably blew a 24-0 lead over the Kirk Cousins-led Redskins. That’s a devastating loss that just can’t happen. And since Lovie picks the players and calls the defensive plays, it’s a devastating loss that falls squarely on his overloaded shoulders.

As the head man, Smith needs to delegate duties. It’s time for Lovie to return the reins to Leslie.

At this point, how can it be worse with Frazier back in control? The Bucs defense, Lovie’s defense, is worse this year than it was when it coughed up 14 games on the way to winning the Chase for Jameis.

Of course, a cynic would say if Lovie has less time to control the defense, then he may poke his nose around the offense — and that offense doesn’t need his influence.

    The offense doesn’t need Lovie.
    The defense doesn’t need Lovie.

Why did he take over play calling duties in the first place!?

  2. Eric Says:

Last time we played Eli in 2012 he threw for over 500 yards.

But Lovie Smith ruined our defense.

    Laughable nonsense.

  3. Dave Says:

Yes the pass defense is horrendous and there is no rush from the DEs
    But…..
The truth is the Bucs are as good as half the teams in the NFL!
They are middle of the pack in pass d, Sacks, overall d.
They are top third in rush defense yards and yards per carry and 2nd in fumbles.

    The problem–
INTs are bottom third and a problem.
Red zone d is a problem.
    Completion % is a problem.

If they created 2-3 more Incompletions per game, which resulted in one FG instead of a TD and 1-2 less first downs when it is 3rd…..

They’d be middle of the pack or better in everything, including points.

My point is, yes it has looked bad, believe me I know, I played CB in college, but a little pressure and a step or two in the right position from DBs and they are not that far off.

  4. JC De La Torre Says:

Schein is a NY blowhard who wouldn’t know football if it whopped him upside the head. This is the same dummy who thought the Bucs were fools for taking “America’s QB”.

  5. Dave Says:

One last point … We tend to watch the Bucs more obviously, but the reality is half the NFL teams out there have defenses just as bad (except points allowed, which is huge… The red zone d needs to turn 1 td into a Fg and they be middle of the pack and probably 4-5 wins)

Basically there are s lot of bad defenses out there and the NYG are worse.
I expect a win this week.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Probably a good idea but very hard to do…..it would be clearly admitting a mistake….should have never taken over to begin with….Lovie had a scapegoat in Frazier…..now everything points to him.

  7. tmaxcon Says:

Glad you are happy being good as half the teams… that’s a losers mentality. being satisfied with mediocrity is pathetic.

Lovie Can’t pick free agent players
    Lovie Cant’t coach game days
Lovie Can’t take advantage of star players skill set (LVD)
Lovie Can’t make adjustments game-day or scheme
    Lovie Can’t call plays

Why is this fool in charge of anything much less everything….

Thankfully Jameis is progressing thanks to Koetter.

  8. mike10 Says:

    Haha good read.

Playing with my emotions here tho. I’m thinking “ya, give those controls back to Frazier” then “dam, you’re right, don’t let him mess with the Offense” .. and finish with “if he only screws up anything he touches, then wtf is he doing as our coach”

  9. Tampa Tony Says:

All off season everyone raved about how Frazier had the d playing top 10 to end the season. Now Lovie takes over and the d looks worse than it has since Raheem’s last year.

Lovie took a 4-12 team and made it worse now he’s taken over the d and made it worse.
    Guy is a joke

Never said I was glad, but thanks for putting words in my mouth. I am just pointing out the facts.
We are acting like they’re the worse D in the NFL that it simply not the fact.

They are a rebuilding project from last year, I am simply pointing out they are on the right track, closer than people think, and just a few players away. Namely DE And DB.

  12. Buc1987 Says:

Once again there’s Joe being critical of Lovie and his defense. This is where OneLovie and Jab83 skip right over those words as if they were never even typed. They will come on these threads and insist that us posters be banned from posting on this site if anything about Lovie looks to be negative.

Just read the freaking articles and listen to the Joe’s on the radio. Then after that leave us the hell alone and go after Joe’s.

“Lovie took a 4-12 team and made it worse now he’s taken over the d and made it worse.”

    BINGO!

Lovie came in here saying, “but we were a 4-12 team last year.” Said stuff like “we don’t expect our fans to be patient.” Then the team goes to 2-14. Now if Lovie was making such a big deal about that “4-12 team” as a reference that they sucked, then what’s that make his 2-14 team? More sucky than Schiano’s?

Yes and you know I’m right!

This is by far the worst kind of Lovie nut riding. So Eli might ONLY put up 450 Sunday. He sure has done a bang up job. 10 year extension!

  15. ATLBucsFan Says:

Hey folks answers aren’t as simple as they seem. Until you put on the headsets and attend the meetings, observe practices, you’re just speculating. I don’t think Frazier could do any better. It’s all about the talent on the field. If it’s not there (physically, emotionally, mentally psychologically) then change during a season is very difficult. My 2 cents.

  16. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    Lovie sucks

  17. Young buc Says:

This guy was the biggest jameis hater

  18. BucMania Says:

The owners need to step in and give Licht total control of roster as long as Lovie wants to play D coordinator. Licht has earned that right and my God he can’t do much worse with all the ex Lovie players that have have been brought in and suck.

  19. bucrightoff Says:

Didn’t you know BucMania? Licht is responsible for all the bad decisions since Lovie was hired. And all the good decisions? He gets no credit at all for those, that’s 100% Lovie.

  20. LargoBuc Says:

We need a top d coordinator, spmeone intense. That mixed with Lovies even temperment would be a good mix. I think Fraziers personality is a lil too similar to our head coach. Bring in a quality dc to go with our quality oc and let Lovie and licht run the team. Cant wait to see this defensive draft we’re about to have (assuming there is no major drop off from where we currently stand).

  21. Eric Says:

No nut riding, just pointing out facts.

Our defense was horrific before Lovie got here.

Only one draft choice on defense. Another fact. (looing like a really good draft pic) So by no means is this Lovie’s defense.

I guarantee the Lovie haters would have tried to run Jeff Fisher or Marvin Lewis out of town.

Because they have no concept of how long a rebuild takes.

Lovie has done an excellent job bringing in young talent and is in the process of turning this thing around.

    _______________________________________________________________

No, this is pure nut riding. Our defense is worse than Schiano’s last year (you are conveniently comparing it to his first year). Lovie also ran off the best CB in the game (which is always ignored by the nut riders), and yeah, this is his defense. 75% of those guys are hand selected by him (doesn’t even include super bust Michael Johnson). The “no draft picks on defense” argument is really weak too. Was a gun to his head saying “you must draft offense with every pick?”. Weak argument.

Marvin Lewis has…0 playoff wins. I’m glad they’re excited to be 9-0 (they get the Texans next week so…9-0), but no one cares until it’s the playoffs. And if they go one and done, Marvin is almost certainly fired. Jeff Fisher? 0 playoff wins since 2003. But he has maximized Mark Barron, whereas Lovie didn’t because he’s not good at maximizing players talents.

You’re acting like you just mentioned top level coaches as examples to stay the course, instead you basically embarrassed yourself by choosing two coaches who combined have 2 playoff wins in the last 15 years. You sound excited to never win anything.

  23. Buccfan37 Says:

The team is getting better overall despite the lost leads meltdowns. The team improves with every game. Opponents now expect a battle from the Bucs and increasingly are getting just that. It all starts with Winston managing the ability to score with few mistakes. No slipping back now, full sails ahead.

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Eric : Tony Dungy first year 6-10 Second year 10-6.

You’re right it just takes forever…..

  25. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

and dan quinn weird he has the Falcons humming in his first year….and weird jack del rio has the raiders in a spot to get to the playoffs in year 1

lovie sucks lets let him get another year to go 6-10 while the raiders and falcons turn the corner

“Was a gun to his head saying “you must draft offense with every pick?”. Weak argument.”

That’s a NEGATIVE GHOST RIDER! The only thing WEAK is YOU and ANY POINT YOU BRING UP! Allow me to SHUT YOU DOWN AGAIN!!

We can all agree(I hope) that Lovie came into Tampa and took over a HORRIBLE ROSTER built by YEARS AND YEARS OF BAD DRAFTING! This team had HOLES all over the place! we STRUGGLED on BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL, had MRSA OUTBREAKS, and had players posing like Michael Jackson!!

We had a HORRIBLE SEASON last year that put us in a position to draft a future franchise QB and we did. They HAD to draft pieces around Jameis to protect him and make sure they were doing EVERYTHING they can to allow Jameis to succeed!!

Let’s look at the defensive side of the ball! This team was FULL OF SCRUBS(still is). Ladies and Gentlemen, when you HAVE to bring in guys like Larry English, Chris Conte, Mike Jenkins, and Major Wright, then THAT MEANS YOU HAVE SERIOUS PERSONNEL ISSUES!!! Let’s also note that YOU DO NOT BUILD A DEFENSE THROUGH FREE AGENCY!!! I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE TO SAY THIS!! All you “non-sensical radicals” can’t wrap your head around this FUNDAMENTAL FACT! YOU DO NOT BUILD A DEFENSE THROUGH FREE AGENCY!!!

Sorry to plug another article Joseph, but these guys need to be taken to school. Let’s ask the architect of arguably the best defense in football now how HE BUILT THE DRAFT!

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/john-elway–hall-of-fame-quarterback–has-built-the-nfl-s-best-defense-225841422.html

Looks like A LOT OF DRAFT PICKS TO ME!!!

    Another “non-sensical radical” SHUTDOWN!

“And another one BITES, ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!!”

THANK YOU AGAIN!! I’M HERE ALL WEEK!!!

Fight fire with fire I guess 87 lol. But I mean it’s just shocking the stringent defenses Lovie is getting from some posters. I mean if we fired Lovie right now, they’d be posting that it’s a catastrophic mistake that will set our franchise back 10 years. Like Lovie is borderline irreplaceable, if we fire him we’ll never get as good a coach ever again. I just can’t understand it, clearly it’s from people who haven’t fully examined his record as a coach.

I think they’re all of the opinion that since he went to a SB with Rex Grossman, with a Jameis, should he reach his potential, he should win 4 Super Bowls at a minimum. I’m reading them right, they want a draft full of defense, which means next year is another total write off, and they basically want Lovie to get 4 or even all 5 years of his contract. Even if he never has a winning season in that, they’ll be cool because it’s “progress”….even as once again, we’re in last place. We are far, far behind Carolina and far behind Atlanta. Even New Orleans, who they all thought was dead, looks better than we do again.

I admire they’re commitment I suppose, even if it’s horribly misguided. I also know that when we do get a new coach and he’s better than Lovie, they’ll disappear or pop up with new names.

Just in case there are any kids out there reading these posts. Kids, this is a classic sign of defeat. A waiving of the white flag if you will. It’s an example of someone GETTING DESTROYED in an argument and resorting to child like tactics(grammar police, etc.) to try and save face and make himself feel better about himself. While this tactic can make you feel better in the short term, it’s a lot like masturbation… Sure it feels good at first, but in the end…. you’re only f!%@!% yourself!!

This was an epic day of laughter for me on JBF.

Thanks to all that contributed to it. I’ve needed some really good laughs lately. My Autistic daughter has been home from school all week, because she wants to go to a carnival in town. It finally starts tonight, but the screaming and hollering from her all week, all day long about not being able to go to the carnival has had me on edge. The perfect way to describe my daughter is Hoffman in Rain Man. She has limited speech and only says things in short sentences. Very similar to Rain Man. So I’ve heard the words Carnival, Ride, Fair repeated to me over and over again about 50-60 times a day. For the whole damn week. It’s very stressful. Picture it like this Rain Man after doing 3 lines of coke. Wake up the next day and do it all over again. All that while my doc says to avoid alcohol, weed, and stress.

Yes I did need to laugh. So thanks very much.
