Henry Melton needs to earn a chunk of his $4 million on Sunday

Your Buccaneers are paying free agent defensive tackle Henry Melton about $4 million this season.

The man was hyped massively in August, and now it’s time to deliver.

Starting nose tackle Clinton McDonald hasn’t practiced all week. Backup defensive tackle Tony McDaniel is in the same boat. Akeem Spence made his season debut in Washington and came out strong through just 15 or 16 snaps, but how much can be expected from Spence coming off back surgery and no training camp work?

It’s time for Melton, 29, to come up big Sunday. His Bucs future could be riding on it.

In August, Leslie Frazier dared to tell ESPN that Henry Melton is the X-factor of the defense because it looks like his “fast twitch” and “burst” are back from when he was a Pro Bowl defensive tackle under Lovie Smith with the Bears in 2012.

Where has that guy been? Melton has flashed a few times this season. He’s got four tackles and a sack. But he sure hasn’t looked like the picture of a revived star that Frazier painted.

C’mon, Henry. We need you.

I honestly forgot he was on the team.

    Lovie has yet show up!!

  3. tmaxcon Says:

He did not show up in dallas last year either what makes everyone think he will magically get it now. another great Lovie player signing.

If someone did not know any better, looking at lovies roster and coaching staff it resembles more like a charity or non-profit support group than a professional nfl team.

I am all over McCoy, but this is a big issue as well. And to be honest I am with QQQ on this one I had completely forgot he was even on the team. That is pretty bad when someone who is all of information on this team forgets your even here.

Just goes to show you these older fa signing usually is a bad method of adding players. A lot of these guys only care about money.

  6. CAN'T FIX IT Says:

Henry Melton has been a disappointment so far this year. He had an excuse last year coming off that serious knee injury. This was supposed to be the year he shined, playing next to his Pro-Bowl buddy, GMC. Not so. Looking like his All- Pro status was a one year wonder? The article should be, time for “under the radar” Akeem Spence to show what he’s got. It is Spence’s third year as a pro and I really liked what I saw in Washington. Yes, it was only 15 snaps but the guy looked strong in both the run and pass. The question is, will he run out of gas? Let him be the judge of that and play him full time if McDonald can not go. Let Melton come off the bench.

  10. Lovie Is Dog Poo Says:

Just like Lovie himself, Melton is another retread failure.
