April 10th, 2015

joemugshotRegular readers here know Joe is your snooze-free source for all things Bucs, committed to obsessive coverage of the Buccaneers.

That doesn’t stop on weekends.

Tonight, cold beer in hand, Joe will be glued Jameis Winston’s debut on “Gruden’s QB Camp,” 11:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

Joe will deliver all kinds of stuff out of that, and Joe has plenty of draft coverage, Bucs nuggets and more for the weekend.

Stay safe out there.

Got my DVR set and ready to watch our brand spanking new QB.

  2. Keepitreal Says:

@joe.. Do you think the comments from his I toot lawyer will have any impact on the bucs?

Gotta a feeling the Bucs have talked to that guy several times already. A whole lot of nothing new. –Joe

  3. bo Says:

or watch our new QB get spanked….which some of you Jaboo lovers might be into

  4. port richey george Says:

I will not be wasting money on bucs season tickets as I have for years if they draft Winston. many other people I know are not on planning to go to the games if he is drafted. the stadium will be empty if he is drafted. he is not the face of the bucs franchise. if they draft mariota or another guy or trade the pick then I will reevaluate that decision.

  5. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

See ya later port richey george….have fun rooting for the team you deem worthy of your support. I look forward to finally rooting for a winning team again.

And on that note, not sure who Benjamin Allbright is, but he just said on twitter:

Jameis Winston WILL be the #Bucs pick, per source. It’s a done deal. Did what they consider due diligence to be sure.

  6. Adamant Says:

Port Richey George is obviously not a true fan

  7. Keepitreal Says:

Port Rickey… Where are your seats. Might buy them. Can’t wait, sold out every game.

  8. Stanglassman Says:

    @KIR

*Jameis’s attorney went on to say most if not all rookies are not ready to be a player off the field. That is why they set up the NFL rookie symposium and other outreach groups.

  9. Florida Hillbilly Says:

    #5

  10. Gaytor Bait Says:

Port Richie George is correct in that all inbred, uneducated, Florida Gator fans will not be in attendance at Raymond James watching THE best QB to ever play the game at his age. The rest of us will be inside watching history made. Stop being a bigot and a racist and realize that Jameis Winston will be the BEST thing to ever happen to this franchise. He will turn the Bucs around in ONE year. Mark it dude.

  11. Florida Hillbilly Says:

Georgey Porgy puddin’ & pie, kiss your tickets goodbye, because we will take #5

  12. mark2001 Says:

    Joe…

Looking at the ESPN2 listings, it shows as Sports Center, and later on in the evening, a Grudens Camp at 1:30 eastern….but when you look at the Sports Center information it shows Special Gruden’s QB camp—Jameis Winston. Rather odd, but I thought pass along as wouldn’t want Winston fans to be deceived by the listing….Saw the Mariotta segment….and didn’t see the fire and seemed he will have some extensive study to adapt to the NFL….tonight should be interesting.

  13. 77bassguitarist Says:

Joe’s you’re dedication is unmatched, i appreciate you guy much.

  14. Waterboy Says:

    @Port Richey George
Do you or any of your friends have good seats that you’re looking to get rid of?

  15. Dan Says:

    Port Richey George,

The stadium will be empty, but not because of Winston. Wins give fans short term memory loss. They are the only thing that will fill up the stadium.

  16. WalkdaPlank Says:

“Joe will be glued Jameis Winston’s debut on “Gruden’s QB Camp,”

    You don’t say? Haha

    11:30??

And you said Mariota was buried? 🙂

  17. DraftJameis Says:

Well since port richie george and his Gator buddies won’t be there, I don’t see the point in even scheduling any games at RJS. I actually commend him for staying away altogether, as “I-told-you-they-should’ve-drafted-Mariota-guy” will get quite annoying every time Jameis throws an incomplete pass.

  18. Warren Says:

I thought the same thing Walkdaplank…lol. No disrespect to Joe…just thought it was funny how Mariota at 7 pm or whatever it was “out of Prime Time” was something worthy of pointing out.

  19. JBuc Says:

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that Port Richey George doesn’t have season tix and if he does they suck due to the fact that he is from Port Richey

  20. Howard Cosell Says:

Lol, the Gator vs Nole thing on here is like the Hatfields and the McCoys.

  21. jfat Says:

@Warren – Yeah, pretty sure Joe knew that was BS and would just get a rise out of people. Funny enough, ESPN has their “Draft Academy” series premier this coming Tuesday at…7pm. Featuring Mr. Winston, suppose they just like to bury their season premiers.

  22. ATrain Says:

    OK its Winston.

Pray he is everything this team needs and His lawyer is wrong.

If not I see an empty Stadium and that is very very bad for this team.

I trust Love is a Professional and picks the right man..

If not the SHIP WILL SINK

  23. Skyline Crew Says:

So you’re predicting 9 wins this year with Winston. Got ya.

  24. HotRod Says:

After last season, getting Winston is the only reason I’m keeping my season tickets. Why couldn’t they have put a roof on that stadium though?

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Yea….I know…..Winston’s “prime-time” episode has been hyped to generate the most interest……far better time slot than the boring Mariota….burried slot at 7pm..

  26. Stanglassman Says:

Add A-train to the list of people who don’t read the articles they site. Or maybe he thinks the Bucs should wait until after the rookie symposium to draft players.

I think when you are the team drafting 1st because you have the worst record that would qualify as the ship already being sunk.

  27. jody Says:

Why does not wanting Winston have to be racist? Why cant it be about 28 picks in 2 years in one of the easiest conferences in college.

  28. Luther Says:

@jody I have seen comments stating that Lovie Smith is racist because he wants a black QB. There are comments thrown out on both sides…and yes there are racists on both sides. Fact of life and people that deny that fact are just sticking their head in the sand. Personally, I just want the best QB and that is Winston.

  29. JBuc Says:

Jody: not liking Winston because of his interceptions or that he’s from FSU or that you simply think that Mariota is better does not make you a racist. However, many on this site have referred to him as a thug which is essentially a racist comment. He is far from a thug. I

  30. Erik the WiseMMan Says:
  31. kaput Says:

    Should be a good watch.

What would Gruden do with a quarterback with that kind of talent?

  32. Stanglassman Says:

I’m still trying to figure out who the Both Sides are? I LOVE the ‘both side do it’ excuse.

Eric-That maybe your wisest comment yet.

  33. ATrain Says:

Staglassman ? I believe you need to read some where other than this site.

Winston’s lawyer stated he was ready for playing in the NFL but not the off field life in the NFL.. Not my words his words.

Read a little more don’t be a Blind Follower like so many on this site.

  34. JBuc Says:

His lawyer then said that no one was ready ready to be drafted due to the off field pressure.

  35. Stanglassman Says:

*Jameis’s attorney went on to say most if not all NFL rookies are not ready to be a players off the field. That is why they set up the NFL rookie symposium and other outreach groups.

You don’t even need to read the article you sited just try reading the comments before yours in case it answers your question.

  36. Ray Rice Says:

J Gru will love him like he does everyone else. I mean this is the same guy who loved the pride of Appalachian State, Mr. Dexter Jackson. Trust me. J Gru will say nothing bad about #5.

  37. ATrain Says:

He’s ready to be an NFL player on the field. But he’s not ready to be an NFL player off the field” Anderson quoted Cornwell as saying. “We have to assist him in growing and developing as a man.
“And it’s not going to be easy. If he messes up again, he’s done. … And so we talked about it and (Winston) said, ‘I want to meet’ the commissioner.’’

These are his words. Yes he added one short sentence about A lot of players have a hard time.

You can follow blindly that is fine. If you have no doubt about this player you are Blind

  38. Nybucsfan Says:

Hey joe what did you say about playing Mariota QB camp first? I see they put Winston on prime time lol good call.

Big country, pal. It debuted in primetime with days of build up in much of the nation.–Joe

  39. Stanglassman Says:

There is risk in every player regardless of position. The real question is do I think there is a QB worth that risk. If yes, which QB do I believe (ie lowest risk) has the best chance of successful in the NFL for whatever reason. I think the risk of Marcus Mariota transition into a pro style system is greater than Jameis Winstons’ risk of having off the field problems that would keep him from playing. It’s normal to grow up but it’s not normal become a good NFL QB. In MM case he hasn’t been ask to do so many of the components it takes to make this transition smoothly if at all. I like Marcus M. and think he was a great college QB and he maybe a good NFL QB. I just believe what most of the experts believe and that’s that the Bucs would be crazy to pass up on Jameis. Ask yourself what happens if the Bucs elect not to draft Jameis who will pick him and then ask the same for Marcus. That should tell you something.

  40. DallasBuc Says:

All the QBs look like high draft picks in Gruden camps. The reality show requires it. Let’s not act like it is determinative.

  41. Luther Says:

Petty and Hundley both looked like 3rd round talent on that show. They barely knew how to call plays and neither of them could call protections.

  42. TheShaz Says:

To be honest. The show with Mooch was better to watch than Chucky’s show.

  43. Luther Says:

    I agree @TheShaz

  44. DallasBuc Says:

Coach Gruden was flat out pist he never had the chance to get a guy like Winston (although Rodgers was there in hindsight). Sad that Mariota show was earlier…not even fair.
Hard to be nice when greatness leaps off every stage provided in equal measure. Let common sense reign for eff sake.

  45. DallasBuc Says:

When you watch all the QBs in the Gru camp it is interesting how they aired them. Hard to know if filmed in order. They were all impressive. If we were not picking #1 it would almost be easier with the great NFL talent available.
Anything but Winston does seem like certain malpractice at this point.

  46. Trubucfan22 Says:

Lol joe. The commenters got you on this one. Friday night at 11:30 pm, is a terrible time slot. Much worse than Tuesday at 7.

And what build up was there? We didn’t know the schedule as of 3 days ago. So much build up and anticipation! Lol joe. You so funny.

Let’s not make stuff up. The schedule has been out a while. Google is your friend on this one.–Joe

  47. Kevinm813 Says:

Joe doesn’t do links here. Sorry. –Joe

  48. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Let me guess port richey George your friends are still in the…aghh who needs them anyways. Your area sucks anyways what do you have mermaids? I grew up in Brooksville and we had man trees. See now I’m old and living on the east coast with lame dolphin fans so I’m not happy. But your statement is kinda a good thing. See I’m a season ticket holder who drives to see shit hopefully one day turn into gold. I look at the fans around me and they are upset with me when I’m upset of seeing shit not turn into gold. I bet you are one of those fans. Do us all Bucs a big favor and stay home and yes we will buy your seats too. We don’t need you. We want passion something you know nothing about. I will take the risk with Winston for he has passion and if you don’t see it your blind. I believe this guy has what it takes. I played football with very few guys who had it, and I see it in him. Don’t kid yourself mermaid man. Bucs life!
