Understanding, Ordering Your New Bucs Jersey

March 4th, 2014

No. 8 gear surely will be in high demand

So what was the thinking behind the Buccaneers’ new jerseys rolled out yesterday?

Well, Team Glazer and a NIKE official chatted with local media yesterday to explain and answer questions.

Joe listened to the full audio below, courtesy of WDAE-AM 620, but Joe’s just not a big gear guy — not enough to write about it.

However, the most important question wasn’t addressed: “When can fans start loading up on new gear so they can look cool at NFL Draft parties?”

At Buccaneers.com., a banner on the “Shop” page tells fans they can start pre-ordering jerseys (and likely other new stuff with the new logo) on Monday, March 10. Joe can only imagine how quickly the Mike Glennon Mob will gobble up all things No. 8.

I am interested to see a comparison between new jersey sales from the last uni make-over to this one.

I’m not buying one. I’d rather buy the old ones.

  2. dee Says:

    Mike glennon mob !!!!!!!!!

  3. Meh Says:

Not one cent for that monstrosity. I’ll wear my old jerseys, thanks.

  4. The_Buc_Realist Says:

could care less about what the bucs wear. WHERE ARE THE CHEERLEADER UNIFORMS!!!!!!!!!

  5. Lutz Bucz Fan Says:

I hope the Lavonte David jerseys sell out! He is a superstar and made every game worth watching last year.

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

WHERE ARE THE CHEERLEADER UNIFORMS!!!!!!!!!…like to wear?

  7. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I won’t be ordering a single jersey. Not of the new ones. I would rather get a custom old uni.

  8. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

At least the old jersseys and t-shirts will go on sale now.

  9. doubting thomas Says:

Those new uniforms look like they will be a serious disadvantage in the heat of the midday sun.

  10. buccanAy Says:

This sound like desperation…rather than tradition. wont be wearing one of these clownsuits…ever….this team may be moving on

  11. Jon Says:

Bonzai. I feel the same. I think I’d be made fun of wearing that jersey. I’ll stick with t-shirts or older jerseys

  12. Bucfan#37 Says:

Gee… One would of thought a uniform makeover might be decided and approved by Buc fans before a final decision. On that #8 jersey, it might be the Bucs collectable worth the most in the future.

  13. Ryan Says:

So many jersey dissenters. You guys will grow to love it. Once Johnny Football rolls out on May 8th holding one of these in one hand with Goodell’s hand in the other., you’ll be sold. New jersey, new generation, new era.

  14. Meh Says:

The only way you could make these jersey’s worse is by putting Manziel in one.

  15. INDYbucsfan Says:

I’m buying a NEW LVD jersey to complete set I have now. Time to burn the gfs freeman jersey haha.

  16. chef paul Says:

    @Ryan

I think you are right. Im no fan of the new jerseys but being a bucs fan I’m sure they grow on me just because of the fact its the bucs jersey. And winning will only accelerate that process.

  17. Patrick in VA Says:

Bonus to keep in mind when buying the new jerseys, reflective numbers means they double as night time running gear

  18. Ryan Says:

Think about it. A lot of current bucs fans recall back to their youth, and a common thread amongst a lot of them is the fact that when they were young they thought pirates were badass and they liked the look, so they started following the team and became lifelong fans. Our new jerseys are ‘cool’ to the younger generation. If we start winning this year with Lovie and an offense that is worth holding your piss to watch, we’re going to suddenly have a lot of bandwagoners-something we haven’t had here in a long time. So no matter how many fans want to soil their adult diapers over this, the fact is that it’s a change for the better, and the sooner they get on board, the sooner we can initiate the younger fans into fandom and share what it is that we love: buccaneer football.

Also I’m tired of going to Ray Jay and being surrounded by one of two things: opposing fans, or apathetic middle aged men casually complaining about the heat while football is within the vicinity. Let’s get more young fans in the stands.

  19. bucrightoff Says:

Never buying one, and if everyone does the same they will be changed back. This move was designed to do one thing: sell jerseys. It’s quite obviously not to improve the jersey’s look. So don’t buy, and they will have no choice but to switch back.

Seriously, do not encourage Nike to ruin even more uniforms. Do not buy any new jerseys.

  20. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

In case you’re too young to remember it, NO ONE, I repeat NO ONE was complaining about the first uniform change (creamsicle –> red and pewter), so, please save me the generational angle.

It’s not that at all. They just are unappealing. I like the new Pirate ship, that’s it.

Change just for the sake of change is just about filling coffers. Don’t believe the hype.

  21. AceOfAerospace Says:

Win or lose this year, I’ll still hate these jerseys. We had the best in the league. If it ain’t broke, break it I guess. I’ll support my bucs even if they change their colors to fluorescent lime green and baby blue, but I will not buy something I won’t wear, and I won’t wear this junk. Sad. All the attaboy’s were just ruined by this aw sh**.

  22. Patrick in VA Says:

So, what are our colors now? We used to be Pewter and Red but I don’t think that applies anymore.

  23. BuccsfanNJ Says:

I remember in 97 I was 13 and thats when my true love affair for this football team blossomed always followed the Buccaneers becasue I loved pirates but then that uni came out and I had no choice but to fall head over heels for the team… however at 13 I wasn’t able to afford any Buccs gear…. 17 years later I can finally afford to buy an entire wardrobe of jerseys if I willed to do so…. and they go and do something like this.

looks like I am going to be wearing my Reebok Alstott and Brooks Jerseys a lot more now, and I won’t be buying any newer players jerseys unless they still offer the I guess if want to call it “Classic Red” Version

  24. Wombat Says:

I didn’t like them at first, but after seeing more pics I love them. I am sure most people on here are comfortable in their cargo shorts, sneakers and polo shirts, but get over it. It’s fashion, it’s change, it’s different, it’s done and they will NEVER go back to the old jerseys.
    GO BUCS!!!!

  25. Charles Says:

You people complaining are PATHETIC. The change is good. New Start for the Bucs and I applaud it. You don’t like the jerseys, take a hike. Go become Jags fans, you’ll have PLENTY to b!#@ about!!!

  26. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

Some people will drink every last drop of koolaid. PT Barnum would love some of you milk lappers. Drink it up.

  27. Patrick in VA Says:

@Charles – if you don’t like people having opinions feel free to not read the comments section

  28. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Glad to hear the big guy hitting the gym early-

“Lots of talk and rumors going around about me and next season thank u 4 the motivation workout#1 done workout#2 later” -Donald Penn-

  29. Couch Fan Says:

A lot of you sound like a bunch of girls crying because there dress isn’t the prettiest at the prom.

  30. CHRIS Says:

I love the new look. All of the classic uni’s are boring as fuh. (packers, niners, steelers, etc..)

  31. BucPuck Says:

You guys are crazy these jerseys are baller! They remind me of the Seahawk uniforms.

  32. Clowney Says:

    Can you say “Clearance Sale?”

  33. Daffy Buc Says:

These will grow on us. The pics where you can tell its pewter and not black are much better. It is a really cool looking uniform. If we are winning they will look even better.

  34. Teddy Says:

These are so bad that not only won’t I buy one of these Bucs jerseys, but I won’t buy Nike products now. Overpriced crap anyway. I’ll stick to New Balance, adidas and Saucony.

  35. Don Says:

Shawn King compared them to the Cincinnati Bengals uniform. That is the only thing that guy has ever said that I am in agreement with

  36. gt40bear Says:

To each his own…I guess. Personally I find them hideous and will never spend a penny on one. Won’t keep me from being a fan though…I’ll just cheer in my Allstot, Lynch or Johnson red and pewters!

  37. Patrick Says:

These ugly uniforms definitely have “Glazer” written all over them. LOL!

  38. Oahubuc Says:

So, I should go be a fan of another team if I’m not enamored with the uni and refuse to drop >$100 on one? Sound logic, since odds are really good I’ve been a fan longer and through worse times than most people making that argument.

  39. bucrightoff Says:

I already said it, but these were released for one reason, and one reason only” To relieve more people of money of their wallets. Vote with your wallet people. Do not buy, and they will tank, the team will get the message, and that will be that. Consumerism goes both ways, we aren’t slaves to buy these just because its Bucs gear. It’s embarassing and buying them encourages Nike to do even worse.

Notice the Raiders, or Chiefs or Packers or Cowboys won’t be adopted these types of monstrosities? We had a modern classic look, easily the best of the NFLs new uniforms since 1990. And now we have what appears to be something a kid designed in Madden. This was done to sell jerseys. I plead to not buy them so we can get our modern classic look back. Or if nothing else, back to the Creamsicles. At least if we’re going to look bad, let’s have some nice bright colors to do it.

  40. rubenluisb Says:

bucrightoff is right. 2 years of research put into figuring out what sells. I love my Bucs, but as a designer, I really doubt I’ll ever take these uniforms seriously. For me “it is what it is”. I think Nike and Team Glazer is banking on the majority of the fan base having no asthetic taste or appreciation for classic NFL jersey design. Time will tell. Don’t get me wrong, if the team starts winning I’m gonna be a happy camper, but it won’t make me more accepting of these Disney uniforms.

  41. pick6 Says:

i took one look at the new jerseys, went on ebay, and found myself a nice ronde barber jersey. i’ll maybe snag myself a mccoy jersey from last year, and that should tide me over for a few seasons until they realize they’ve made a big mistake and redesign the unis again

  42. Tackleblockwin Says:

I’m not too concerned with Bucs apperal, more focused on Joes FA and NFL draft coverage and thoughts. Just want to win…lol.

  43. MaxMax Says:

Aw, the “Mr. sign Josh Freeman to an extension now” guy cherishes taking another shot at Glennon…lol.

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Pewter is gone. That is not Pewter. That is charcoal gray.

The numbers are hideous…which is an opinion shared by 98% of the fans.

I like the red uniforms a little better, not so much the white ones.

I like the helmet. I know the logo is big, but I can live with that, though I am concerned chrome will reflect sunlight into one WRs eyes at the wrong moment.

Personally, I think me or probably half of us here could have done a better job designing a uniform.

  45. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

You guys mock Josh Freeman, but his day is coming. He’s young and if he gets with the right coach (Frazier was a joke; which is why I wish he wasn’t here) he will excel and you naysayers will pretend you knew it all along.

  46. TpaBayFlyFisher Says:

The new jersey makes me want to vomit…………….

  47. Striff27 Says:

Its comical to watch all the woodwork fans come out and whine and complain about the new look. I understand its not for some people, but you just all come across as whiney. No wonder the Bucs fan base gets so harshly criticized. As fans youre supposed to show confidence and support. Im reading comments about how “we” should have been a part of the design process. That makes me laugh. You want a team to interview its fans who don’t even come to the stadium to see them about the decision making process?! Should they let us sign the Free Agents too? Im sometimes embarassed to call myself a Buccaneers fan, but it isnt because of the players. Its because of you guys. Show your support. We have a new era finally. A REAL new era. A reputable coach, a new “brand” and hopefully new found success. Our players could use our support. Our team could use our support. Hate or love the new jerseys, you should atleast finish your childish banter with something like, “It doesnt matter tho, I still support MY TEAM.”

  48. PRBucFan Says:

In the pictures with actual light on them you can clearly see it’s pewter.

You’ve changed your mind yet again I see Bonzai lolz

    and Couch

“A lot of you sound like a bunch of girls crying because there dress isn’t the prettiest at the prom.”

Your absolutely right ahahaha, It’s like mean girls all over again.

The same thing was said about the Seahawks “hideous” jerseys which I loved too by the way. Now that opinion has widely changed too.

  49. PRBucFan Says:

Bonzai Free Free will never have his day, he was exposed for the bum he truly is.

    And Amen Striff

  50. nate Says:

Worse uniforms I have ever seen…

  51. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

YET ANOTHER UNNECESSARY MIKR GLENNON DIG !!!!!!!! #NOCLASS !!!!!!!!!!

Right on Bro. And to add, WE DON’T REPRESENT THE MAJORITY OF THE FAN BASE. Maybe 001. %. I’ve been a fan since the Bucs started. I moved here from Denver and still follow the Broncos (at least till Elway got his rings) but I decided that the Bucs would be my team for-fricken-ever. They can dress like the lingerie league for all I care. MG8 will shine in them!
