“We’re Going To Bring The Heat”

Darrelle Revis talks about the Bucs pass rush and singles out Adrian Clayborn

Darrelle Revis hasn’t experienced the pain of the heinous Bucs pass rush and sack totals in the post-Simeon-Rice era. Revis plays for the team that leads the NFL with nine sacks.

That’s your Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“I think we got the best pass rush in the NFL. I mean, we get after it. And one of the guys I’m going to point out is Adrian Clayborn. I mean this guy is tearing up the field left and right,” Revis said on WDAE-AM 620 Thursday. “So, you know, that’s how we’re going to play. We’re going to bring the heat. Because coach feels that we have those types of players to do that. And we want to put pressure on quarterbacks. … We’re going to make [them] uncomfortable.”

Revis went on to reveal a slice of the Bucs’ approach against the Patriots.

“Tom Brady, you know I’ve played against him in the past, if he can sit back there in the pocket with no pressure in his face, he will shred a defense apart. So one of our gameplans is, hey, get him off his mark. Get him moving around,” Revis said. “Make him be mobile, which he’s a pocket passer, to put pressure on him.”

Yes, Bill Sheridan — with Greg Schiano in his headset — will get to play blitz — and line-stunt chess with Brady on Sunday.

Joe likes Brady’s odds in that chess match. However, Brady is lacking weapons. A career 64 percent passer, Brady is throwing for less than 53 percent this season. And he hasn’t faced the likes of Revis and Dashon Goldson.

Regardless, Brady, in Foxborough, represents a huge challenge for the Bucs defense, especially if Josh Freeman can’t move the chains.

Unless Gosh really, and I mean REALLY craps out, we’re going to win this one!

  2. Thomas 2.2 Says:

Revis is right. Despite the propaganda, Clay is the team’s best Defensive Lineman. He is a better NFL pass rusher than I projected.

  3. Pete 422 Says:

My biggest concern (pass rush) has become the strength of the team, while I felt comfortable that the offense would churn out the points. The O needs to put together tomorrow.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

The defense right now has no ceiling. It’s only going to get better and better. Many people kept wondering why the Bucs ran the ball so much against the Saints. I think maybe it was by design. Using a Dungy blueprint for beating high powered offenses. A strong running game and a great D keeps the high powered offense off the field. It really could have nothing to do with the coach not trusting Freeman.

  5. Nic Says:

It really does come down to Freeman. They have to, and I mean HAVE TO convert on 3rd down. We can’t afford to have the defense on the field for 3/4 of the game like last week every time or we may never win a game.

  6. Northend Says:

Not a freeman lover but in all fairness,as much as he stunk up the place in both games. When needed he did put the team in position to win.He didn’t miss the kick or let Brees walk down the field vs NO(dont forget 75 yd Td pass called back). Free also didn’t push Geno out of bounds at end of jets game.fair is fair.As a team lets bring the heat and play smart on offense. Get a win and shut up the chatter

I wish we would run more on first and second down. And even run more on third and 3 and third and 4. Doug is the man.

    Our D is incredible.

I swear I said to myself, all this D needs is pick 6 to remind me of the good ol days.

And boom. Mason and a caravan of emotional, hard nosed players, ran 85 yds for a game winning TD.

    Our Defense is baaaaaaacccck!!

  8. Kevin Says:

@Buc1987 and Teacher man…….Yes I agree we do need to be able to runt he ball. But every now and then they need to mix it up and throw on first down. If you run every first down they know what your doing and 50% of the time we get stuck with third and long when they KNOW we are passing. Throw a little on first and create some 2nd and 3rd and shorts to run the ball. The offense was to predictable and when we are playing a high powered offensive team and play conservative we lose. This coachings record in the last 8 games shows…PROVES we are playing to conservative and my four year old daughter could fix this problem. Throw the fuckin ball!!! I understand we NEED to be able to run and do so efficiently but if I know your runnning because your to stupid to mix it up and try and outsmart me a little…50% of the time I’m going to stuff your ass make you go to third and long and prevent you from getting more than one first down per series. This is little league stuff. The saints D SUCKS!!! We should have put up three TD’s and a couple field goals….truly pathetic display of coaching. Yeah I saw the dropped passes but that doesnt mean abandon the pass. Schiano is being stuborn and he needs to open up this offense or get the hell out of here. If were gonna suck with all this talent it’s not too hard to figure out where the problem is. Over and out.l.

Amendola is still out…Edelman is the Graham of last “season”….muthafn target and ASSIGN TO HIM SCHIANO (or Sheridan)….And blitz like crazy

BLITZ, BLITZ, BLITZ!!! Brady will be crying by the 3rd take….watch and see!!

    DID I SAY BLITZ ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Marc Says:

The Bucs defense is going to wreak havoc tomorrow. They are becoming so entertaining to watch, with Goldson the headhunter flying around like a psychopath. I love it.

  11. MadMax Says:

-Filters again….smh at your code Joe.-

  15. MadMax Says:

@Kevin, Its all about matches and trust (the matchups mainly)

  16. Kevin Says:

Max, I understand but for four solid quarters we ran it up the middle on first . That’s ridiculous. The entire game. Maybe 3 times we got creative on first. It’s just too predictable. For us to hold them to that low of a score and walk away with a loss against that defense….sad. How about throwing it to martin on a roll out on first down. I’d like to see that. I’d also like to see ogletree step up or put page in the slot. Would be nice to see crabtree come back soon as well. These coaches need to coach.

  17. arealbucsfan Says:

@teacherman777 wtf are u talking about. All we do is run on almost every down. Gtfo

  18. bucrightoff Says:

The Bucs have potentially two elite players at every level of the defense: GMC and Clayborn on the line, David and Foster at LB, Revis and Goldson and Barron in the secondary. This defense has a chance by next year to rival the classic Monte defenses.

  19. andres Says:

That’s what a shutdown corner does, allows those backers to blitz. It’s not d-line it’s those backers man running like their britches on fire. Love it!

  20. MadMax Says:

Oh I agree Kevin…..the play calling is ridiculous at times (because they’re scared of trusting Freeman) At least we have something (our D)…well, when they’re assigned correctly! lol. Im still scratching my head about them ignoring Graham so much the 1st half……
