Loading Up On Leonard
August 14th, 2013Former Bucs tight end and current Buccaneers Radio Network analyst Dave Moore uses lots of Xs and Os detail to paint running back Brian Leonard as the anti-Blount, during the WDAE-AM 620 interview below.
Moore was very impressed by Leonard in the preseason opener and says the Bucs will use him a ton in the upcoming preseason games so the coaching staff can build a complete trust in him. Moore was not as high on Peyton Hillis.
“His problem is he doesn’t get his pads down low enough,” Moore said of Hillis. “We saw on four runs he got his legs cut out twice from under him just because he can’t get that center of gravity down low enough to keep those little DBs from getting under him.”
As always, Moore serves up no-nonsense, old school analysis of all things Bucs, including the pushing of Da’Quan Bowers, how the rain affected Chris Owusu, and more.

Always good insight from Dave. I wish we had a old school tough TE on the roster like Dave Moore!

I’d like to see much more production from the FB position. Its one thing to replace Doug Martin on a play(s) and it is entirely another thing to compliment him (as with Alstott/Dunn).
Many games go by with Lorig getting only 2 or 3 touches.
It seems to me that we ought to pass more often to our backfield…..take more pressure off of Freeman…and open up more for the downfield/play action passing game.

Dave has always been a student of the game. He is intelligent, and has a certain charisma that others admire, and respect. I’ve always enjoyed his candor in all his interviews without being to critical. He’s going to make Shorecrest Prep. a perennial powerhouse someday, or at least a team to reckon with as long as they listen to him. Dave, with his presence alone will draw motivated players from all around Tampa. I hope there’s enough empty houses. lol

Moore’s analysis is always insightful, straightforward and drama free.

Lorig has gotten better of reading running lanes. His problem is that even though he gets a hat on the other Guy, but does not get any push. So he clogs holes on the line.

Can Leonard, pick up blitzes when the real bullets start to fly,any one can run the ball in pre-season.

You say this as if guys on the other side of the ball are not trying or something. Like it’s just a cake walk because it’s pre-season.
