Berry Calls Tampa A “Perfect Fit”

March 9th, 2010

Eric Berry, who has Monte Kiffin leading cheers for him, lobbed a guided missle at the Bucs’ brass during an interview on Sirius NFL Radio this afternoon.

On the air with Rich Gannon and Adam Schein, Berry said, “I know Tampa’s defense, perfect fit.”

Joe thinks Raheem The Dream, being a secondary maven, has got to be salivating at the thought of drafting Berry and picking up a defensive tackle in the second round.

“I know Tampa’s defense, perfect fit.” Please…and he did so well last year within the Kiffin system. He’s talented, but he’s just lobbying to be a #3 pick so he gets paid. He’s been vocal more than once about Tampa. Hell if he’s good enough to be #3, why not #1 to the Rams.

  2. NFL Lawyer Says:

taking a safety at #3 over one of the top two DTs if either is available would be absolutely IGNORANT

  3. lhb26 Says:

This draft will make me lose my mind…..I like the idea of getting Mays in the 2nd round if he falls that far like in the latest mock

  4. Tom Says:

I think what Eric Berry meant when he said “perfect fit” was regarding the extra large contract he’d be getting by being 3rd overall pick.

I’m not sure he’d be as ‘stoked’ about the Bucs if they dropped to the 12th slot and took him then. But it would be a great interview.

Rich Eisen: “Eric, are those tears of joy?”
    Eric Berry: “No comment.”

  5. BuccoMike Says:

Let’s see how he feels about being in Tampa when we move down 5+ spots to get him.

  6. jaycorr Says:

BOYCOTT THE BUCS! GLAZERS MUST SELL!

  7. Kyle Says:

If the Bucs draft Mays I will be pissed that dildo can’t cover anybody if they draft a safety it should be the one from Kansas

  8. RahDomDaBest Says:

The draft is deeper at safety than DT… did you see the combine results for safety too? We could get a solid one in rnd 2.

Although, speaking in the regards to money, wouldn’t a safety be far cheaper of a 1st round pick than say, a DT?

  9. Mike J Says:

RahDomDaBest , from what I see, there will be safeties available for about four rounds. Unusually deep this year. I like Larry Asante.

  10. Kyle Says:

Yea if they don’t get Suh or McCoy they might as well try and trade back to like 20 and get the kid from UCLA

  11. Brooks07 Says:

I will be sickened if one of the DTs is there at #3 and we take this guy. That said, it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what Dominik and Raheem did.

  12. JDouble Says:

Dude just wants to be drafted #3. We would be so stupid to take a safety that low. That kind of thing is what got us in this situation.

  13. Radio Mushmouth Says:

    We don’t need Eric Berry.

Reggie Brown is so great that he can play both ways. He’ll play WR and safety for us , that’s what a beast he is.

  14. Eric Says:

    Radio Mushmouth

Awesome post man, busted a gut over that one.

  15. Riga Says:

This guy is the next Ed Reed. I’d rather have him over both DT’s. Believe me, Tampa fans. You will regret not wanting Eric Berry in pewter if he goes elsewhere.

  16. Eric S Says:

If McCoy is still there, the Bucs have to take him. No question. Berry does know that he will be losing a few million if he drops a few places.

  17. BigMacAttack Says:

If they pick Berry, I’m happy. If they pick Suh, happy too. McCoy, not so much, but OK. I like Myron Rolle and they could get him in the second. Whatever I want the Bucs to do, they will do something different. So it’s just like “Whatever” for me.

  18. gruss222 Says:

Mark it down now: Mays will be the absolute biggest BUST of this draft! No flexibility, can’t turn his hips, zero ball skills = BUST

  19. RastaMon Says:

    Hell yeah he’d say that…..
no team will take him before 3…
    after 3…quite a fall
McCoy or Berry it will be

  20. TJ Tillman Says:

If both Mccoy and suh are gone then we should draft him the best other chose is to move back and take Bryant or Hadden which will both be reaches. ButIf we get Berry it would help first it would sit down Sabi who played horriable also Berry played CB his freshman year so he could play nickel too but understand he is as good as advertised

  21. Mike J Says:

Like Kirwan said, if both DTs are gone, the Bucs will be in a great position to trade down to a team looking for a QB.It is a win-win situation. Stop worrying.

  22. Pruritis Ani Says:

Sorry.. Can’t see the justification in taking a Safety with the 3rd pick.

  23. gotbbucs Says:

MacAttack, I’m pretty sure they can get Myron Rolle in the 5th round if they want him.

  24. Plunderin Says:

This guy Berry can play. I pray that Dominic does’nt draft projects. That’s all we need is another project ie. Adams The Bucs should be able to come up with ligitimate players. If they don’t at least get players with the picks they have…game over…turn out the lights the party is over…wait for the next regime. Dominic will be selling Countess Mara ties if he blows this draft!

  25. JDouble Says:

Suh is the only guys worth taking at #3. If he is gone we gotta do our best to trade back and get a few top guys like Sean Weatherspoon, Brandon Graham, Brian Price, or Tyson Alualu.

  26. JDouble Says:

With guys with so much potential projected to be late 3rds to 4th round picks, Berry would be such a waste. (Kam Chancellor, Darrell Stuckey, Barry Church, Major Wright) These are the safeties we should be looking at, not Berry.

  27. BucBuzz Says:

“Eric Berry, whose got Monte Kiffin leading cheers for him …”
WHOSE? Really? Are you sure you didn’t mean “who’s” or “who is”???
You’re getting as bad as that other digital rag that needs a proofreader.
    Sheesh !!!!!

  28. BucBuzz Says:

I meant “who has” not “who is”.

  29. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Think Ed Reed would have been worth the #3 pick? If he’s there and the D line players are gone then take him and don’t worry about safety for the next 6 years.

  30. gotbbucs Says:

If we take a Safety with the #3 pick then we deserve to lose.

  31. Snook Says:

We should take Jimmy Clausen with the 3rd pick. Then trade him to another team for the WR that’s 5th on their depth chart. Do it, Glazers!!!

  32. Greg Says:

Geez BucBuzz, if you’re going to slam Joe, at least get your slam CORRECT the first time!

  33. FuNkYxMuNkeY Says:

This kid is the real deal. I would prefer trading down to get him, but you know The Dream is in love with this guy and Monte has been talking about him being a perfect fit since last season. I would take Berry over McCoy anyday of the week. I think we should go after Ahlua in the 2nd round instead of picking Suh or McCoy at #3. So Berry and Ahlua would help our defense in a drastic way. IMO

  34. FuNkYxMuNkeY Says:

I also am a big fan of Stuckey out of Kansas. And we could probably get him in the 4th round. And Joe, would it be possible for Tampa to sign Lito Sheppard? He could atleast challenge for a spot and could be a solid player IMO? Any thoughts?? And Torry Holt?? He could be a huge addition to help mentor our rookies we will be drafting and SS. Any thoughts on that? I think he still can be productive as well. IMO

  36. Mike30m14 Says:

Myron Rolle is awful! He is a hell of a guy and clearly destined for greatness, that greatness just isnt going to be on a football field. The only argument for him is that he was poorly coached at FSU but let some other team make the mistake of finding out he is Sabbyesque! The draft is deep for safety and DT why not look at taking a franchise left tackle and picking up a DT or two in the 2nd. After you take Okung or Bulaga you put Penn out for trade and see if you can get a 2nd or 3rd for him. Olinemen have the highest draft success because if they fail at one position (LT) you can move them to (RT) or to (G), ala Gallery or L. Davis.

  37. RustyRhino Says:

If we do sign him at #3 we all better be ready for some form of learning curve this is the NFL not the SEC(no disrespect) and he was not that “great” in montie’s system there in Knoxville as his stats showed. But then neither was our safeties in 2008 with monte’s system… ohh yeah it was not that is was the teams we played… blah blah blah… You know all good things come to an end and the Tampa 2 has been a Great defense since id say 97-98 till around 2001-2002, now how many teams have it in their playbook? tried and true sure but used and abused as well…
