Miami Cops Arrest Warren Sapp

February 6th, 2010

Joe hopes the latest breaking news out of South Florida is nothing more than a misunderstanding.

Per the Associated Press, former Bucs great Warren Sapp is being questioned in connection with a domestic battery by Miami Beach police.

Joe will update any news about this through the night.

Good luck, Warren. Joe hopes you don’t need it, and the truth will set you free.

Update 8:01 p.m.: Sapp has, in fact, been arrested for domestic battery for allegedly bruising his girlfriend in his hotel room early Saturday. Here’s a full report from a Miami TV station, which also has published the complete arrest affidavit. …From Joe’s experience as a cops reporter, it doesn’t look good for Sapp.

Update 8:29 p.m.: Per the Associated Press, Sapp, who was in South Florida to provide coverage of the Super Bowl for the NFL Network, has been pulled off the network’s broadcasts for the remainder of the weekend.

Shortly after officials confirmed the charge, the NFL Network, for which Sapp is an analyst, said in an e-mail from spokesman Dennis Johnson that Sapp wouldn’t be part of Super Bowl coverage this weekend.

“We have been made aware of the arrest of Warren Sapp by the Miami Beach Police Department,” a network statement said. “In light of these circumstances, Warren Sapp will not appear on NFL Network while we review the matter.”

Update 8:42: The notorious celebrity site TMZ.com has some sad details on the alleged dispute between Sapp and his girlfriend of two years.

The alleged incident took place at 5 a.m. today.

She claims Sapp allowed her to sleep in his hotel room — then came into the room early in the morning and pulled her out of bed. The alleged victim says they began arguing about guys she was hanging out with earlier Friday night.

Sapp’s girlfriend told cops that during the argument Sapp “grabbed her and began to choke her.” He eventually threw her out of the room, she claims.

When cops spoke to Sapp, he told them he had allowed the woman to stay in his room — but later on decided he wanted her to leave because “he was expecting company.” He told police he was trying to help her and she fell.

Who the hell throws their longtime girlfriend out of their hotel room because company is coming over? At 5 a.m. no less!

Update 1:27 a.m.: Omar Kelly and Brian Haas of the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel have additional details on the alleged incident.

Sapp is accused of attacking his girlfriend around 5 a.m. Saturday at the Shore Club hotel on Collins Avenue. The woman, who was not identified by police, was treated by emergency workers for a swollen knee and bruises on the back of her neck and taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center.

The woman told officers that she had been partying with Sapp and friends when she grew tired and went to his hotel room. According to the arrest affidavit, she told officers that Sapp later came to the room, pulled her from bed and attempted to remove her from the room.

She alleged that he began arguing with her about some men she had been hanging out with earlier and men listed in her phone.

    GOOD !!!

Warren is the biggest a-hole ever to “put on a jersey” for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His recent comments bashing the Tampa bay area and saying we don’t deserve a superbowl, because we’re only ” a town”, don’t increase my sympathy for him either.

If he gets arrested I say, HAHAHAHAHA!! Karma will get you every time you scumbag.

  7. BigMacAttack Says:

I heard him say before that she was a great girl and couldn’t be beat. I guess that was wrong. Nothing good happens after 1:00 AM, and 5:00 AM has Cocaine written all over it. Miami + $$$Pros = Cocaine & Hookers everywhere. At least he didn’t run over some ignorant crane operator with his truck. What a bitch she is anyway. Who calls the cops over a domestic disturbance at 5:00?

    Wait, stop, think…
“Sapp you POS, if you don’t give me all dem credit cards in yo billfold to go shopping in the morning, I’m calling the cops on yo big fat black @$$, and they gonna ruin yo career!” “I do it, I swear!” “Don’t make me show it, Don’t make I show it!…..I told you, see! How you like dat dere Honey Child. You a fool. I see yo @$$ in Court, and I’m takin yur Chilren too?”

“Now I can git me some real ho’s up in here. Where’s all the white women? Where dey at? Oh, I wasn’t specting some fine @$$ bitch in uniform. The handcuffs were nice but she wouldn’t take off her clothes and these concrete benches suck.”
