Garcia = Flutie?

In his weekly "Monday Morning Quarterback," SI.com's Peter King compares Bucs quarterback Jeff Garcia to Doug Flutie.

Not to get all Jeff Garcia on you, but Joe came across something interesting about the Bucs quarterback.

As Joe has often noted, SI.com’s Peter King has a must-read each week known as “Monday Morning Quarterback.” This morning King, who ranks the Bucs as the No. 4 team in the NFL after last night’s win over Seattle, compares Garcia to former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie.

The more I see of the reincarnation of Jeff Garcia, the more I see Doug Flutie with a few more inches and a few more completion percentage points. Did you see him scramble against Seattle? You can’t be much better than he was in building a 17-0 halftime lead — 19 of 24, 228 yards, one touchdown, no picks.

Joe isn’t sure he’d compare Garcia to Flutie. Flutie was fun to watch but really wasn’t that great of an NFL quarterback. Flutie’s NFL days will be remembered more for drop-kicking an extra point than winning games.

    Doug Flutie? Bad comparison. Flutie was a career back-up. Flutie couldn’t hold Gar’th’cia’s jock.
