Report: Dominik Is Yahoo! Mole

April 8th, 2013

TCDominik11The angling, intrigue and mystery of the expected Revis-to-Bucs trade doesn’t confuse PewterReport.com chieftain Scott Reynolds. He was on 98.7 FM this morning proclaiming loudly and proudly that rockstar general manager Mark Dominik is the unknown source beyond the latest twist in the Revis saga.

Reynolds said Dominik was the driving force behind Jason Cole, of Yahoo! Sports, penning some specifics on trade talks.

“I’m sure [Dominik] had a phone call to Jason Cole,” Reynolds said this morning. Dominik is “very good at using the media.”

Here’s Joe’s need-to-know from Cole’s story.

The Buccaneers are not only willing to trade a combination of a first-, third- and sixth-round picks for Revis, they are also willing to pay the corner in the area of $15-16 million per year on a long-term contract.

Idzik, who did not return a text message sent to him by Yahoo! Sports, has been coy about trading Revis. He has repeatedly said he is not “actively” trying to trade Revis, though multiple teams have said he is willing to listen to offers.

First, with all the BS flying around about Revis, it’s an extraordinarily bold claim from Reynolds to say Dominik is Cole’s unnamed source. After all, it was Cole who was so certain, via multiple sources, Aqib Talib was going to serve a four-game suspension in 2011, for his role in the gunfire that arose from a family squabble in Texas. The NFL did nothing, and Talib’s charges were dropped a year later.

Second, Joe doesn’t believe the Bucs will pay Revis anywhere in the neighborhood of $16 million annually on a long-term deal.

That’s just wacky talk when the top corner on the market this offseason scored about $6 million per year. Joe could see Revis scoring three years guaranteed from the Bucs at $12 million annually. That makes Revis the top-paid corner in the league by a solid margin — from the organization that repeatedly has said it won’t overpay for players.

Deep seated drama that only the local Buc beat and blog writers seem to be concerned with.

  2. AmbushBuc Says:

Since when do the Bucs not overpay for players? That’s been their pattern throughout Dumbinick’s tenure. We’ve got the highest paid kicker, the 2nd highest paid WR, the highest paid OG, and now the highest paid free safety.

  3. SilenceTheCritics Says:

Dom would be an idiot to give up those picks for Revis. The Jets would be idiots for not accepting that trade. I’m hoping this is all just BS. Cant wait for the draft and finally able to stop talking about the idiot CB.

  4. Keith Says:

The top tier kickers are all paid the same money basically, which isn’t much. V-Jax deserves his money, so does Nicks and Goldson, but they’re not overpaid or looking for what Revis wants as it relates to their position.

  5. Mr. Patrick Says:

I have always been a Dominick supporter, thought he did the best he could when the Glazers saddled him with no money and Raheem Morris. Last year with money to spend along with a real coach and some draft picks I thought he did quite well.
HOWEVER, if he really does offer the Jets a 1st, a 3rd, a 6th, and is willing to pay Revis 15-16 million a year, I truly think he needs replaced as his cheese has definetly slipped off of his cracker.

  6. Meh Says:

If it was Dom, it is tampering. Frankly, I don’t believe Dom is that dumb.

  7. Sneedy16 Says:

    @AmbushBuc

Tell me how you really feel about Dominik. You just called out the best guys on the team and said they are overpaid. Vincent Jackson is the 7th highest in the NFL.

  8. Sneedy16 Says:

Oh yeah Conner Barth is the 5th highest paid kicker and Dashon Goldson is the 3rd highest paid Safety.

  9. stevek Says:

    Sneedy,

point being, we PAY out of the nose for TOP talent, as DOM IS UNABLE TO DRAFT IT (prior to last year, other than GMC-#3 pick).

Freeman could make or break him, funny how it all works out. :)

  10. stevek Says:

“Rock Star” needs a “Platinum Hit”- (Playoff appearance).

1 playoff appearance in 5 years is NOT too much to ask for.

  11. Tbuc Says:

I think Joe’s delusions of Dom being a Rockstar are debunked with the more things that come out. Do good GM’s get their phone calls recorded? Do great GM’s do nothing to improve the NFL’s worst secondary? Now it comes out that Dom could be a source for the media? I don’t think great GM’s fit this description. Dom is a joke and this off season proves it. Take off the blinders Joe, or Steve or whoever writes the uncredited articles on here.

  12. ben Says:

Just he because he tells them that doesnt mean he is willing,he could want that leaked so the ny media puts pressure on nyj gm and to scare of any other team that maybe become interested more if revis shows up this month to work out and looks great

  13. Sneedy16 Says:

    @Stevek

As always you make a disclaimer of not being able to draft with not proof. Well Mike Williams is doing well, Grimm was good until injured, Black has shown flashes. Injuries has been the Bucs bad luck not just drafting.

How many teams have drafted consistent pro-bowlers in the last few years?

  14. Buc Wilder Says:

HaHaaa! I think Revis is the mole- trying to get his payday!

  15. blind melon Says:

Is it tampering if you talk privately to a member of the media?

  16. Vern4499 Says:

    @tbuc

Nothing you wrote has any merit. It wasn’t Dom that had the phone call recorded. It was on the Bills end. And he didn’t do anything to improve the worst secondary? Wow! He signed last years All Pro free safety who was by far the safety on the market. But if we are to believe you that does nothing to improve the secondary. Try again buddy.

  17. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

Dominik also attempted to overpay for Haynesworth (higher offer then Washington). He got lucky that Fat Albert didn’t trust himself in Tampa.

Everyone should be happy that he didn’t take Dominik’s offer.

  18. stevek Says:

    Sneedy,

Williams is a good pick, Grimm has been HURT. He picked off Carson Palmer as a Bengal in 2010. How is he helping us get to the 2013 playoffs?

It is nice to hit on a pick or two or three. Results are needed and overdue at this point. 2013 is a playoff year, or something must change because the current operation is just not that successful.

  19. @MikeInTampa2 Says:

1st, 3rd & 6th…or wait till he”s a Free Agent next year (and his knee has been tested)

  20. BucFan20 Says:

This is another reason I am here and not PR. Renyolds does this BS all the time. If you believe him you may as well believe the team is being moved to China. If you want truth, Johnson said 2 weeks ago live on TV, they were only worried about getting Revis ACL rehabed properly and getting him resigned. Then he said Who would not want to resign the best player on their team? Then you have the stories from our coach. He would keep Wright. He would start 2 rookies.
You want truth . There is four things that were said in public. I am sure is not Fact! But then again Renyold and Facts don’t always go together.

  21. stevek Says:

    Mike in Tampa 2,

Not only the: 1st, 3rd, and 6th, but we are also willing to pay 15-16m annually for Revis.

What are the Jets doing? Idzik must really believe he has the “leg up” on the situation.

I only wish we had signed one Free Agent CB, if nothing else to replace Biggers.

It will be interesting to see:

    1) if the deal gets done
    2) if yes, the cost? do we make 2013 playoffs?
    3) if no, do we lost 5+ games in a row for the 3rd year in a row, and fail to make the playoffs after a strong start?

Time will tell, and I am hoping we get Revis.

  22. stevek Says:

    Sneedy 16,

Do I need to make a disclaimer of the Dominick draft picks that haven’t worked out? I thought 24-40 as GM, and ZERO PLAYOFFS were enough of an explanation. :)

    2013, it is time!

  23. stevek Says:

Former Chiefs GM Scott Pioli drafted 5 pro bowlers, and he is looking for work. Why?

Because he traded for Matt Cassell and did not make the playoffs.

Dom drafted 2 pro bowl campaigns in his tenure, and zero playoffs.

I guess it could be worse, we could have 5 pro bowlers, Matt Cassell, and still no playoffs.

I just hope the Bucs are back in contention. I would hate to see our team sturggle down the stretch (especially after a hot start), just because we have 25 million in cap space, and no CB talent…

  24. Sneedy16 Says:

    @stevek

Scott Pioli was also bad at finding coaches. Dom didn’t pick Morris who was one of the worst coaches in Bucs history. I like Morris but he wasn’t the man for the job. Plus, given the fact that he was restricted in signing any high price players for those years I can understand the record. Punter was the best free agent during those years (2009-2011).

The second the cuffs came off he had some great pick ups. I’m not saying that I’m settling for being ok with his record, but give the man a chance with his coach and picks.

  25. Sneedy16 Says:

Dallas had 13 Pro bowl players in 2007 and the Giants still beat them and went on to win the Super Bowl with none. How the league is set-up with a win now mentality tends to make things difficult to build.

I want the Bucs in the playoffs as much as the next guy, but I’ll wait until the offseason is over before I complain about not signing anyone. When preseason starts and they look worst than last year, then I’ll be there with pitchfork in hand wanting his head. Until then calm down it’s just the offseason.

  26. Tbuc Says:

    @Vern,

Can he really be considered a rock star if he’s going into year 5 of rebuilding with zero play off appearances? Sick of fans and Joe glorifying a average GM. When did Bucs fans expectations become so low?

  27. Bucfan Says:

If he gives up that much he won’t be our gm next year.

  28. Tbuc Says:

If the Bucs don’t start seeing results from Dom’s rebuilding he’s out of a job anyway.

  29. Bucs4life Says:

@ Joe – your credibility to evaporating exponentially. your apologist stance on dominik is laughable.

  30. Vic66 Says:

@ bucs4 : that’s pretty brave criticizing Joe like that. You might want to be prepared to bend over, put your head between your legs and kiss your arse goodby. Lol.

  31. Mike J Says:

@MikeInTampa2 , really. This is compensaton on all facets as though he were in pristne health.
