“I’m Still Here”

February 13th, 2013

Wright reminded Bucs fans of his status during some wee hours Twitter shenanigans today.

The wild and wacky world of Twitter was buzzing a few short hours ago (yes, Joe wasn’t sleeping well) when a Bucs fan got under the skin of @EWrighteous21, aka Bucs letdown corner Eric Wright.

The pissing match started when Bucs fan @SeanSogan sent the following public Twitter message to Wright shortly after 2 a.m: “Dude u tweet Too much. U should be worried about workin out and talkin to ur agent. B/C u aren’t on an NFL team. #Adderall

Wright embraced the shot and advised @SeanSogan of his Tuesday activities to set the record straight. @SeanSogan Worked out & talked to my agent 2day. Thanks for ur concern. I wish u the best with ur life but im not overly concerned #GoBucs

Then Mr. Sogan felt the need to loop 98.7 FM radio host and former Buccaneer Booger McFarland, and fellow 98.7 FM host Justin “The Commish” Pawlowski into the mix. Here’s what Sogan tweeted next to them and Wright: “Eric Wright is the next Talib if we don’t cut him, a random overpaid FA.”

And that’s where Wright seemed to start getting annoyed and more intense back and forth began.

From Wright: @SeanSogan @CommishOnline @lsubooger <– check ur facts tho.. Im still here.. I still love u bro

From Sogan: @EWrighteous21 I agree! How’s the adderall..I’m mean Weed, I mean Coke, I mean, whatever other lie u told, congrats on losing your contract.

From Wright: @SeanSogan thats very disrespectful.. I guess ur ok with that.. I dunno what I did to u but watever it is Im sorry.. #LoveAndRespect

From Wright: @SeanSogan And I apologized for that.. What more do u want from me? U get sum sort of gratification from kicking a man while he’s down?

From Sogan: @EWrighteous21 No gratification. Bucs need CB that can play at a pro level for 16 weeks+. Prove to Schiano u can and do it. … … And I’ll be one of your biggest fans. We need talent and commitment

From Wright: @SeanSogan U jus called me Talib and overpaid.. Lol #Unfair

From Sogan: @EWrighteous21 Well, hopefully u have next year to prove it in Tampa. #bucsnation

From Wright, after deleting his messages shown above: Jus realized I really wasted my time by replyin to sum1 who doesnt even have a single follower. Thats the 1st sign of a troll #TheHateIsReal

Joe’s unsure of what to make of all this. Surely, Mr. Sogan was being an ass and provoking Wright, but shame on Wright for being stupid enough to engage a hostile fan on Twitter rather than block him or ignore him. For Joe, this was just more evidence of bad judgment on Wright’s part.

Joe doesn’t expect Wright and his bloated contract, which the Bucs can break without issue because of Wright’s drug suspension, to return next season. But Wright does remain on the Bucs’ roster this morning, while loads of players across the league have been cut this offseason.

As the letdown corner Twittered, “I’m still here.”

What did the Rock Star GM ever see in this guy? One year of this guy and I’m already tired of his drama. Shut up, fly right, and play ball. Not a “Buccaneer Man” IMO.

  2. ScottyinFatAntonio Says:

This banter was going on at 2 AM? What club were these guys rolling out of that time of morning?

  3. Justin P's Dwindling Radio "career" Says:

Twitter is great…but it’s only gonna get better

  4. Adam Says:

Have to admit, he kept saying “love” and “respect” and he kept the humble act up and didn’t go postal on the guy. Maybe that’s a sign of burgeoning maturity.

  5. kennedy Says:

@Scotty- To be fair Wright lives in California, three hours behind.

Now that I have that out of the way, there’s no way Dominik is stupid enough to bring this guy back.

  6. ScottyinFatAntonio Says:

@kennedy….good point. Maybe he was still IN the club at 11 PM…;)

  7. the_buc_realist Says:

I did not know that Dominick uses twitter!

  8. bucfanjeff Says:

Wright took the high road, which I appreciate, but Sogan has very valid points.

    We should release him.

  9. Meh Says:

There is no reason to cut Wright until we get some other corners. We shouldn’t be in any hurry. Leave him hanging, take care of our business, and see where things are.

  10. TAC Says:

Mr. Sogan was a bit a-holish, however he is a bucs fan who watched his defense get torched while wright was right on the couch. He was right about wright in respect to his accountability to the team in the past.

He will never win in that type of exchange, so should have ignored it.

Have to admit wright handled it right though.

  11. Have A Nice Day Says:

“but shame on Wright for being stupid enough to engage a hostile fan on Twitter rather than block him or ignore him. For Joe, this was just more evidence of bad judgment on Wright’s part.”

I don’t like or dislike Wright, but coming to that conclusion over a few inconsequential replies on twitter and call him stupid….. sometimes you can be so over dramatic about things, blowing even the smallest way out of proportion.

  12. lightningbuc Says:

How did we manage all those years before the advent of Twitter?

  13. Macabee Says:

As in the tweeter, for most fans it’s personal. For the Bucs, it’s all about business. They are not going to release Wright until they have something better. The Bucs hold all the cards. If it makes sense contract-wise and Wright is healthy enough to play, I don’t have any problem with retaining him. Same with cutting him. If they have better options, I expect them to use them, because right now, we don’t!

  14. OAR Says:

    Lightningbuc
You mean back in the day, when if you said something about someone, you were actually in front of them or in the same room?

  15. BadNewsBucs Says:

Wright handled this pretty well, he could’ve gone Darnell Dockett on a fanatic like Sogan. Imagine how horrible “The Fan” would’ve been if DeNiro could contact Wesley Snipes’ character via social media? Boring as sh!t. Some fans are fickle, you take time out to personal tweet this guy about how bad he is, but back-track to fit a “I’ll be you’re biggest fan” in there.

  16. Jwayne Says:

I understand why the guy is upset, and im glad that Wright knows a big part of our fan base can’t stand him. And Wright has brought all of this on with his poor actions and selfishness. And if he wasn’t worried about his current situation i’m sure he wouldn’t have participated or engaged in this war of words with fan!

  17. 4everBucsFan Says:

From what I gather, if the Bucs decide to keep Wright he will continue to make the same salary as first agreed upon. If they choose, to try, to renegotiate a new, cheaper contract, it automatically releases him from his old contract, thus making him a free agent. As a free agent he has the right to refuse a new Buc contract and test the open market.

From what I’ve seen and heard, I personally don’t trust the guy. I feel even if we kept him, he’ll spend more time in the training room, and still collecting 7 mil a year.

  18. Steve Says:

Joe, So what does that make you when you engage hostile joebucfans?

  19. Joe Says:

Excellent question, Steve. Very thought-provoking, as well.

Joe’s primary business is engaging fans through the Internet anonymously. Wright, however, is not in that business at all.

Therefore, to answer your question, that would make Joe a guy doing his job.

  20. jason jones Says:

its a no brainer to restruture him then we only need to sign one cb instead of two

  21. kfc Says:

Its obvious that he is our best corner.. look at the INT against Giants, none of our CBs can do that.
Also Wright should always be #2 CB

  22. sharkcoasttactical.com Says:

keep him if we can..stop being butt hurt, this is chess not checkers

  23. sharkcoasttactical.com Says:

    and..

From Wright, after deleting his messages shown above: Jus realized I really wasted my time by replyin to sum1 who doesnt even have a single follower. Thats the 1st sign of a troll #TheHateIsReal”

    The above comment=super gay

Acting all humble and then throws in the middle school jab about twateer followers..dork

  24. steve Says:

    Great answer Joe!

  25. PRBucFan Says:

That Sogan is an ignorant, immature, child.

So Wright made a mistake, it happens, IMO it doesn’t call for all the over the top hate he receives from fans. Unless there’s anything he’s done that I’m not aware of???

Wright responded, so what? He’s human at least he engages the fans unlike many of the “too good for the likes of you” athletes out there.

Being critical is one thing but being a judgemental jackass is another.
He took the high road on this kid, he should have ripped em a new one.
I’d say its actually a positive reflection on his character. IMO

  26. PRBucFan Says:

    “Anything else he’s done”

  27. Morgan Says:

Sogan speaks for a lot of Buc fans (like myself) who are greatly disappointed in Eric Wright and believe he let the entire fanbase down by not living up to his contract and getting himself suspended. We owe E. Wright no loyalty until he shows us that he’s capable of finishing a season as a starting Buccaneer CB. Now it looks like free agent money was wasted and we’re going to have to spend a draft choice or millions of cap money on his replacement.

  28. PRBucFan Says:

No he doesn’t, I’d like to think our fan base is not full of ignorant jackasses incapable of being critical of a player without acting like that child.

Sure many are disappointed in Wright because he messed up and got suspended but that group isn’t represented by that sorry excuse.

  29. Morgan Says:

Wright is a sorry excuse for a professional football player and because of his suspension, the team went into a nose dive. Wright has shown himself to be irresponsible on more than this one occasion.

He was paid $7 million to play football, not sit in a spa in Los Angeles while the Bucs were getting their asses beat due to practice squad players being placed in his position.

Any Buc fan who wants him to continue to be a Buccaneer needs his head examined.

  30. PRBucFan Says:

Get off your high horse lol.

  31. Tbuc Says:

Hopefully Joe, stops referring to Dom as a rock star if Wright is on the roster next year.

  32. teacherman777 Says:

Much RESPECT to Eric Wright for how he handled this moron.

Much love to the men of peace.

Shame on you, men of hate.

    Teach!

  33. Ben Says:

While I don’t like Wright, I think that a transcript of him remaining pretty calm and kind in the face of outright disrespect is hardly evidence of poor judgment. In fact, I think posting the transcript here was worse judgment.

  34. BUCguy Says:

I don’t know how some of you can complain about about some random dudes tweets to Eric Wright. Alot of what he said is what people commonly talk about when reffering to Wright. And really Wright didnt really say anything wrong until the last “Troll” tweet after he deleted Sogan (which he did to make sure Sogan didnt see it).

  35. BUCguy Says:

Actually, I guess he just deleted the tweet….Not up on my Twitter jargan. Either way this is just a story that shouldnt have been told. Nothing really happen.

  36. Jwayne Says:

    @ teacherman 777

“Jus realized I really wasted my time by replyin to sum1 who doesnt even have a single follower. Thats the 1st sign of a troll #TheHateIsReal”

Ya he handled this situation real mature. And he’s a man of peace probably cuz he’s stoned off his ass! Anyone defending Eric Wright who claims to be a buccaneer fan needs there head checked! And he had his get out of jail free card after he got a “dui” before the inc was dry on his contract. The drug suspension just punched his ticket out of town!

  37. Dave Says:

I saw Wright do nothing wrong there. Sometimes all the talk gets too much and you have to reply.

He kept it classy mostly, no problem with it.

  38. Morgan Says:

Of all the Buccaneers on the roster, #21 would probably be voted “Most Likely to Crash and Burn” before the end of his career. He’s already on this third team, working on his fourth in his relatively short career. The writing is on the wall for this guy. Like Talib, time to cut ties and move on.

  39. MarkE Says:

Sogan, valid complaints aside, was being a dick. I’m no fan of what Wright did to our Bucs’ season, but what Wright did to his life is his business. Wright never got busted with “weed… or coke… or whatever” (I could be wrong, but I’ve not heard this). There’s no need to put that out there.

It’s too bad this joker was given a public platform by Wright. I think Wright was extremely patient and gracious in his exchange – although not smart to even reply in the first place.

There are “trolls” like this everywhere and always, Eric, if you start replying, you’re just going to multiply the trolling exponentially. I hope you ARE working out and getting better and working on fighting whatever addiction you MAY have. Your situation really screwed with a Bucs season that had potential.

  40. Joe Says:

@Ben – With 25,000+ Twitter followers, Wright wants attention paid to his Tweets. That’s what Joe did. And then Wright decided they were worthy of deleting, aka bad judgment, except for the last one calling the fan a troll.

  41. Buc Fan #238 Says:

You guys who are overly excited about this stuff, especially in the off-season, should probably think about aquiring a hobby.
