The Bucs Picked A Guard

New Bucs G Kadeem Edwards.

New Bucs G Kadeem Edwards.

The Bucs finally picked a guard. And he happens to be from Florida.

Kadeem Edwards from Tennessee State is your new Bucs guard. Originally from Samford, Fla., Edwards is a monster at 6-4, 313, though he’s been knocked for carrying excess weight.

Below is the NFL.com breakdown on Edwards.

Manned left guard all four years. As a true freshman in 2010, started 9 of 10 games played. Did not play against Austin Peay and did not start against North Carolina A&T. Started all 10 games played at LG in ’11, missing just the season finale against Jacksonville State because of a left ankle sprain. Started all 11 games in ’12. Started 12 of 13 games played in ’13 — did not play against Austin Peay and did not start against Eastern Illinois.

If he is playing left guard in college, a four-year starter, does that mean he will be replacing Carl Nicks, or is just an insurance policy?

We passed on Yankey for him….so, must be some reasons….hopefully we were right….

Apparently this guy needs a decent amount of work, but has solid longterm upside as a starter.

Don’t know enough about this guy, question why Stanford’s David Yankey stayed on the board so long, thought he would be the pick when he was still on board, L & L, gets paid to make the right pick though, not me.

Thats not really a breakdown of his game. Its just a drawn out way of saying hes durable. Although when hes coming in to backup carl nicks I guess thats all the info. you need to know.

This is how Rotoworld is comparing him to Yankey:

“Edwards (6-foot-4 1/4, 313) Edwards displayed adequate athleticism at February’s Combine, clocking a 5.25 forty and 27-inch vertical, with 26 reps on the bench. Edwards’ long arms (34 1/2″) give him a chance to be a plus NFL pass blocker. He has an outside shot to develop into a starting guard.”

    Yankey:

“Yankey (6-foot-5 5/8, 315) …Despite the laundry list of awards, Yankey is a poor athlete (5.48 forty, 8-foot-7 broad jump) with limited strength (22 bench-press reps). At least two scouts labeled him a UDFA prospect during the pre-draft process. Yankey is at his best pulling and on the move.”

Think we made the right move.

He’s solid depth for sure wont be starting this year

About time we addressed the line

These athletic small school guys are often studs in the NFL. Anybody remember Larry Allen from Sonoma St.? Carl Nicks was a 5th round pick… most the really good OGs aren’t drafted until later.
