“Getting A Good Groove Of The Game”

November 27th, 2017

Early birthday gift

The Buccaneers’ head-scratching, season-long rotation at left guard ended yesterday.

Evan Smith was out with a concussion and Kevin Pamphile finally was given a full-time shot at the job he held full-time last year.

A Bucs 2014 fifth-round pick, Pamphile would love to have back Tampa Bay’s key 4th-and-1 play yesterday back, when Dontari Poe busted a Pamphile/Ali-Marpet double team to pressure Ryan Fitzpatrick on the game’s key incompletion. However, Pamphile did a lot of good things on the field as the Bucs’ pass blocking was stout and the run blocking improved.

Joe asked Pamphile in the locker room if he was glad to shake that rotation with Smith. The answer was, Yes. Pamphile almost smiled and said it’s easier to play better without rotating through a game.

“It felt good, honestly, getting in there and getting a good groove of the game and really getting to feel the momentum of the game. I felt comfortable early on and it was no adjustment for me to play the whole game,” Pamphile said. “It felt good on the first drive running really well and we did more good things through the game, but there’s a lot more we can do as a line for Doug and the rest of the running backs. We’re not celebrating anything today.”

With the Bucs now out of the playoff hunt, realistically, Joe hopes Pamphile, who turned 27 today, gets the full-time nod through the season finale.

He’ll be a unrestricted free agent next year, and it would be ideal to get a clearer picture of his game.

As a fan that just watches Bucs football and enjoys the game, I can’t act like I’ve got the first hand access that they have in making personnel decisions. Despite that fact, I’m going to go out on a limb and say the coaching staff that does have that access has made several personnel mistakes. I don’t mean Mark Dominic or Jason Licht giving away a Superbowl Squad’s full of solid players to other teams. I mean on the talented roster that we have right now. That’s just the start as the coaching staff clearly has not cut the mustard. We may not be world beaters but this team would be heading toward a playoff berth with the Eagles coaching staff for example. The overall blame has to be on our coaching staff for this monumental collapse. Speaking of Eagles coaching staff. is there any thought to prying Schwartz from Philly and making him our Head Coach. He has been there and done that and there is no question that our defense would get an immediate upgrade.

@Joe I agree on seeing more of pamphile consistently. I have to say he isn’t anything special but is adequate and can play many positions. I think this is the olines will gholston. Hopefully we don’t overpay to keep him

  3. not there yet Says:

He had a crappy game yesterday too many penalties and getting blown off the ball, not a good season for him, wish we could somehow go out and get a left tackle then kick do Smith in at guard

Joe mentions Dontari Poe in this article who was a free agent when this year began. As was Calias Campbell. The Bucs had the money to sign both. But instead we sign Jackson and Baker who I have yet to see change a game.

Campbell – Poe – McCoy- Ayers. That would have been some serious QB pressure.

Love to see Licht itemize his reasons for not signing either of these two.

I like Pamphile ,but his two bad penalties stalled drives and killed our offensive momentum. l
I think his run blocking has slipped this year.

  6. Capt.Tim Says:

On offensive line- if you get totally blown up on a 4th and 1, allowing the other team to prevent the first down . .

Then you had a lousy game. Just unexcusablr
    BopeEvan Smith is healthy.
    Pamphile played well last year.
    This year- not so much

  7. Capt.Tim Says:

    Damn lil phone
    Inexcusable*
    Hope Evan Smith . .*

“get a clearer picture of his game”

    Um – he’s been here for 4 years…

So despite the clear regression throughout the 2017 season thus far – Joe hopes Pamphile can have a couple good games to close out this meaningless season? Why?? So he can turn around and demand $5M+ per year if we want to keep him?

Joe it’s funny how you constantly like to polish the turds known as the (some) Buc players. Off this offensive line I keep Ali Marpet, that’s it. The rest of this o-line is sub par. Joe’s not polishing any turds, but you are overvaluing all the other O-linemen out there. Did you know this year that two O-linemen drafted in the fourth round didn’t make their team’s roster? Look around the league. There are O-line issues everywhere. You could argue that the Bucs coaches are getting nearly enough out of their O-line talent, but you can’t fairly say the Bucs have a bunch of crap O-linemen, it’s just not so. So many teams would kill for the pass blocking the Bucs get.–Joe

There’s no one on this o-line that makes me say, ” damn he’s a beast!”, or ” wow look how they’re just dominating and pushing around that d-line!”. They are SOFT, just like our d-line. Until BOTH our o-line and d-line are completely revamped with some hard nose players with a some dog in them, it’s not going to matter who’s at the other positions. It all starts up front in the trenches, and right now our trenches look like the French did during WWII.

I completely agree with you Ghost. I would love to hear a logical explanation from Licht on why he didn’t sign those guys, top tier guys. Instead we get fat ass out of shape worthless Chris baker??? That guy is just here to collect a check and act like an ass clown. Why do you think both the Redskins and Giants didn’t resign him……….because they saw what he’s about and said, ” Hell no!”

I get what you’re saying Joe, but I just don’t agree with your assessment of our line. Look here, I don’t care about the rest of the league, I care about and only about our Bucs. I mean you sort of made my point for me when you say, ” You could argue that the Bucs coaches are getting nearly enough out of their O-line talent”. They just don’t have the talent they need to be a dominating o-line. And our d-line is worst in my opinion, yes that includes Gerladine. He’s NEVER impressed me and he NEVER will. I know you think the world of him…..I don’t. We’ll just agree to disagree on her.

Look here, I don’t care about the rest of the league, I care about and only about our Bucs.

You claim you don’t know anything about offensive lines throughout the NFL yet you claim the Bucs are rock bottom? That’s simply throwing crap against the wall because it sounds good and hoping it sticks.

How can you say the Bucs have such a horrible line if you are not aware of the current offensive line crisis throughout the league? That’s like saying Taster’s Choice is the greatest coffee ever produced when you haven’t had a sip of any other coffee.

Yeah, sure, if you want to compare the Bucs to the 1977 Raiders or the 1977 Cardinals, sure, the line stinks.

  12. teacherman777 Says:

Imagine if Legarrette Blount, Mark Barron, Donald Penn, Mason Foster and Michael Bennett were still here.

We could have saved draft picks on Doug Martin, Donovan Smith, Devante Bond, and others.

Legarette Blount is still trucking people and scoring touchdowns.

Mason Foster is still playing with heart and soul.

Donald Penn is still a top 10 LT.

Michael Bennett is a top 5 DE.

So many dumb moves over the past 5 years.
