GMC: Too Many “Selfish” Penalties

Says teammates who commit personal fouls are “selfish.”

Joe shared yesterday that Lovie Smith seems to think a “me” problem is the root cause of some boneheaded penalties Lovie’s defense has made, specifically the personal fouls.

Well, yesterday afternoon, Bucs’ defensive tackle Gerald McCoy held court for his weekly press conference and there was no implication in his words. He flat out said some of his teammates are playing selfishly and, thus, are putting the team in a bind with dumb penalties.

“Unacceptable. Way too many penalties, man,” GMC said. “That is an issue we have to address in the locker room among ourselves.

“With us going out on the field believing that we are a tribe of men, when you [pull a dumb stunt and get flagged 15-yards] you hurt your brothers. That is a selfish act to get a penalty of that magnitude. We are all professionals. But there is a lot of chippiness, there is a lot of dirty play in the NFL. All across the league. You have to learn to be a bigger person and think that if I do this, I am not just hurting myself, but I am hurting my teammates. It is bigger than me.

“You have to swallow your pride and move on to the next play because there will be another snap. [Retaliate] legally. Just do it legally. The extra [stuff] is unnecessary. Guys have to learn to swallow their pride and move on to the next play.”

It is good to hear candor like this rather than lame excuses. And props to GMC for calling out his teammates to be smarter, better than that.

Of course, talk is one thing. Actions are another. Let’s see if this nonsense comes to a halt on Sunday against the Cowboys.

And too many bonehead idiotic penalties. Like the off sides penalty GMC gets every game.

These guys are wusses that cant handle smack talk. Like with the Redskins. They even said Dashon Goldson was getting under their skin. GMC just hinted (IMO) that is what has been going on. It’s probably gotten around the league they cant handle it and what topics set them off. Bunch of thin skinned softies these guys are.

As much as I blast GMC, he at-least has shown he can handle smack talk.

Just one guy’s opinion on the matter

I also believe the refs pick on the Bucs…..our reputation for penalties gets in their mind and they are looking for them from us.

I’m curious to know if he tells the guys these things up front to their faces or if he’s just being a passive aggressive ninny on the radio. My guess is, Jameis had to take matters into his own hands and talk to Spence himself because he knew GMC never would have gotten to it when he came back to the sidelines. He would’ve came back to the sidelines and pouted thinking about how upset the big mean fans radio jockies are at his invisibility job all game, not even worried about leading.

    Pot calling the Kettle Black
a “neutral zone in fraction” penalty on third and short leading to a first down is just as bad as a personal foul in anger penalty

The fact that we have lost at least two or three games we should have won due to giving up stupid penalty yardage enrages me. Be a flipping professional and leave that bush league crap somewhere else. I’m all for setting an example and fining, benching, and even releasing these selfish players who are too dumb not to turn the other cheek. It is not about you and you being “disrespected”. You disrespect all the fans when you do stupid things like draw an unsportsmanlike penalty in the game deciding fourth quarter. The fact that we lead the league in penalties astounds me. Lovie has no control over these players as the penalties clearly show. That is a serious lack of discipline and character and above all, coaching. Go Bucs!
