Bowers Clues Were Right; He’s Back

July 27th, 2015
He's back!

He’s back!

A few weeks ago, Joe got the whiff of a scent that the Bucs were going to bring back defensive lineman Da’Quan Bowers, but neither the Bucs nor Bowers’ agent would confirm or deny Joe’s information.

Sometimes, silence is deafening. Joe wrote how he couldn’t confirm the info, despite being tipped from a reliable source and telling signs on Bowers’ Instagram account. The silence also meant that no one was telling Joe he was wrong.

This afternoon, the Bucs announced that, yes, Bowers is back. He signed with Tampa Bay and will report to training camp Saturday.

In Joe’s eyes, this is a no-lose situation. The Bucs have not promised Bowers a thing but a chance to prove them wrong. He’s being brought in at camp-meat pricing.

If the light finally flickers in Bowers’ head and he is motivated and actually makes the final-53, then it’s a win for the Bucs and a win for Bowers.

Hey, maybe Bowers finally realizes that he can play guitar in a gospel troupe any time in his life but his football days are numbered.

Joe hopes for Bowers, and the Bucs, that this turns out to be a positive move.

Wow, Bowers is on the team and Adrian Slowborn is not, Try to tell me now that Slowborn is not the bigger bust Joe!!!!

  2. Buc1987 Says:

Camp meat pricing, because he is exactly that…camp meat.

  3. tmaxcon Says:

this just a stupid move. waste of time and valuable practice reps…

  4. Joe Says:

this just a stupid move. waste of time and valuable practice reps

Is it? So pick-a-slug-from-Backwater U is more valuable? Hey, Bowers already knows the defense. He has that much going for him.

Don’t see any harm in this whatsoever. He doesn’t make the team, he’s done with the Bucs. No harm, no foul.

  5. Getaclue Says:

Claiborne signed with Atlanta , bowers has signed with nobody and he is back cause it’s at camp meat pricing only not rocket science here

  6. ASchianomess Says:

Meanwhile, Junior Galette is on the market for a new team…….22 sacks in the last two seasons but who needs a pass rush right

  7. tmaxcon Says:

    Joe

yes! it is stupid. this guy has proven time and time again he can’t show up in shape that is enough for me to move on. It’s a privilege to play in the NFL and at the very least you owe it to the organization that is paying you a decent wage to show up ready to work. Yes, I’d rather take a flyer on some unknown who knows it my be another Jacques Smith…

  8. WS99 Says:

    Choir boy

  9. Buc1987 Says:

    Gallette or Bowers?

Another tough decision by a regime that through away all kinds of money at Anthony Johnson, but has no need for Gallette.

  10. WS99 Says:

Hey at least the real fans will be glad we didn’t risk our reputation on a menace to society or future Isis member. Go bucs!!!!

  11. Buc1987 Says:

So right now Bowers is probably thinking to himself….”suckers”.

  12. Buc1987 Says:

99…those would be the same fans that didn’t want Jameis too.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Daquan “The Cat” Bowers…..nine lives.

With a 90 man roster…the Bucs can still sign Galette or another Dlineman…..doubt it though…..how ’bout that guy Bennett….is he available?

  14. WS99 Says:

    87

Wait till I log back in from home. It’s not going to be pretty. Might as well get that moderating button ready.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

    lol

  16. Pickgrin Says:

Why not? What’s the harm? He already knows the Defense – and at one point had a ton of potential – allegedly…

Perhaps Bowers will finally see the light and give 110% effort. It sure looks like this chance the Bucs are giving him is his last in the NFL – So he better make it count. Maybe he can finally stay healthy – do a Luke Stocker turn around and be of some value to the team.

OK Neggy Nellies – carry on….

  17. WS99 Says:

Id take Michael Sam at this point. All jokes aside I would but he’s not a choir boy so that won’t work.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

Pickgrin …perhaps it’s not possible for him to be all those things you mentioned. So what if he comes out and plays hard as hell. Maybe he’s just NOT that good to begin with….try hard all he can, but it’s just not so.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @WS99

That was hard to watch…..but not as hard as the Bowers highlights….

But…I will take him over Michael Johnson….Bowers is only a ghost most of the time…Johnson….all of the time.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

    99 LMAO!

  21. WS99 Says:

    Tbbf

    Mike Sam not mike johnson

  22. Buc1987 Says:

99…I don’t think Jameis would like that video too much. Perhaps you can link him the video via tweeter..

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    99

I know you were talking about Sam…..but I still think Bowers is better than Johnson….cheaper and I think he at least tries and wants to be here.

  24. drdneast Says:

For all you Jr. Galette lovers , it has been reported widely that he was as disruptive in the locker room as he was on the football field. Was elected Capt on his team and promptly got into a fight with another player on the team.
Had a domestic battery charge on a woman dropped but there is allegedly a vid of him striking another woman with a belt.
In other words he is probably looking at some game suspensions.
The Saints had had enough of him.
Do you guys who start screaming for a guy to be signed ever look to see why he has mysteriously become available. I doubt it judging by your posts.

  25. Buc1987 Says:

TBBF…I can try too and want to be there as well. That doesn’t mean I’m worth a damn though.

  26. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    WS99

What do you mean Michael Sam is not a choirboy? Does he also have an arrest record? Does he like to beat on women? Has he been accused by Ram teammates of just trying to get a check?

I’m not sure how Michael Sam figures into any discussion about boorish locker room cancers who embarrass the hell out of the franchise off the field.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

drdneast …some other team WILL pick him up though. Can we agree on that?

If some other team picks him up, then why not us?

Incognito got on a team. Peterson is back with the Vikings…

  28. drdneast Says:

The question is will he come to camp in football shape. As everyone should know, that has been the knock on Bowers.

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @87

Nor comparing Bowers to you….comparing him to Michael Johnson….don’t you agree….Bowers is better?

I’m not saying he’s good…just better than MJ.

  30. The Buc Realist Says:

    @tampabaybucfan

What will we all say if now that Micheal Johnson goes back to the Bengals and gets 8 sacks this year? Do we blame the coach? , the high ankle sprain? the passive tampa 2 system???

  31. Buc1987 Says:

“If some other team picks him up, then why not us?”

I know the answer actually. It has a lot to do with Joe’s 20 worst moves articles.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Someone will sign Galette….why not us…..good question, especially if there is little risk.

  33. Eric Says:

    Nice call Joe.

  34. Jeagan1999 Says:

So what do the Bucs think Bowers will show them now, that he didn’t before? What’s the purpose? I don’t understand these types of moves! We have the worst offensive line in the NFL, and their answer is to ignore productive veterans in free agency, and draft 2 rookies. Now on defense they bring back in a guy who was already cut, and not picked up by anyone else. What’s the point?

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo knows many Bucs/Ex-Bucs…..from Pablo’s table dancing….Pablo’s big tippers were….Myron Lewis, Sabby, Tony Collins, Mikey Johnson and 87. But none tipped as big as “Dom”. Pablo thinks DaQuan Bowers would’t frequent the establishment where Pablo dances…..they don’t allow guns.”

  36. BUCutalkinbout Says:

If Galette is available, sign him. I want to talk sh$# as a fan of my Bucs. Give us the best 22 starters and let’s get it! Again i say 10-6
    Let’s go!!!

  37. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    @87

You answered your own question but there are some differences to point out.

Incognito got on a team. Peterson is back with the Vikings…

Let’s see…Incognito was in trouble since his college days…after repeated infractions, embarrassing the hell out of his team, Nebraska finally told him to take a walk. Oregon then gave him a “chance” and he lasted a week before getting the boot.

In the NFL he got the boot from the Rams for his inexcusable behavior…then Miami…at some point you just have to shun this guy. Buffalo probably believes that Fat Richie the obnoxious ahole has learned his lesson and realizes that he is literally down to his last chance.

Peterson was overzealous in his discipline with his child. I do not excuse this but it was how he was raised. If he’s corrected that behavior I would trust him.

Same for Ray Rice. Horrible behavior but he and his wife and undergone therapy and if that’s his only offense he deserves a chance.

Gallette has EVERY freaking red flag a player can have. Not just because he’s one of those wusses who feels the need to hit women…I’m the son of a wife beater, as an 8 year old coward myself, I once hid under the bed while my father was beating my mother’s head against the wall.

This followed me the rest of my life. Because I felt like a cowardly 8 year old I grew up to volunteer for Vietnam…skydive…drive race cars, boats, one time I even got on a bull…all to prove that that little 8 year old wasnt a coward…an effort to prove my “manliness”. It seriously effed with my head for decades!!!

I HATE men who put their hands on women so yes I’m prejudiced. It’s just the most cowardly thing a man can do…hit a woman..really?

But this creep is not only a major coward who hits women…he’s been accused of being a locker room cancer…a player who stopped playing hard once he got his big $$$.

As drdneast pointed out…if Galette was all that ,WHY are the Saints willing to let him walk. They surely do not seem to fear facing him if he’s on our team!!!

Some fans here should really transfer their allegiance to the Raiders or the Bill Belicheats. Then you could root for a murderer who was a monster tight end.

  38. Idontwannahearitanymore Says:

    Buc1987: Who’s Anthony Johnson?

  39. Eric Says:

    A bit dramatic St. Pete.

You would be amazed at who you might find down at the domestic violence court.

  40. Buc1987 Says:

lol Michael Johnson….either way Anthony Collins or Michael Johnson they both sucked. Same difference.

  41. PocketPirate Says:

I saw Buccaneers sign (and I thought it was going to say Junior Galette) but then sadly it wasn’t.

  42. Buc1987 Says:

Stpetebucsfan ..yes it was a bit dramatic.

Do you think another team will sign Gallette? I certainly do. Perhaps you don’t

  43. bucsalltheway Says:

news flash junior galette already inked a deal with a division rival and he’s making the announcement tomorrow afternoon/evening i have a feeling tampa just very well signed him either tampa or carolina….i can’t imagine atlanta picking him up but you never know….joe i know you had to hear something by now

  44. WS99 Says:

    Pop quiz

    2. What are they dancing on?
    3. What is the texture of their skin?

    1. Pink
    2. Rainbows
    3. Smiles

As in that’s all need you to be a fan favorite a big beautiful smile.

  45. Buc1987 Says:

bucsalltheway….Then you have to go with Carolina, because signing with OUR team just makes too much sense.

  46. WS99 Says:

Plus he’s not nice enough to earn a roster spot in Tampa. We might as well move to Orlando and be the Orlando Mickey mice.

  47. Buc-A-New Says:

On the bright side I haven’t been B-A-Nned from anywhere today.

  48. Buc1987 Says:

GMC has a big beautiful smile.

  49. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Yes let’s make you GM WS99 and we can change our name to the Tampa Bay Thugs.

You never did answer how Michael Sams compared to Junior Gallette or any of the other troublemakers we’ve been discussing,

  50. Buc1987 Says:

Well everyone already knows my stance when it comes to off the field issues. If the player can play, I don’t give a damn what he does in his personal life. Save that for Oprah or Dr. Phil. I just want to watch good football.

What do you mean Michael Sam is not a choirboy? Nope he’s a heathen. A sinner, an abomination if you would. Not my feelings but you know…

Does he also have an arrest record? Not that I’m aware of unless being a bad ass in college is illegal, some say it is.

Does he like to beat on women? You know darn well he likes to beat on men!

Has he been accused by Ram teammates of just trying to get a check? No checks for him.

I’m not sure how Michael Sam figures into any discussion about boorish locker room cancers who embarrass the hell out of the franchise off the field. – I said I’d rather have Sam than bowers. Bc bowers can’t rush the qb but maybe just maybe Sam could. Plus we know he’ll never get in trouble over women.

Exactly! Not sure why that’s so difficult to comprehend.

  55. WS99 Says:

Everyone else is the NFL wants to get better while we’re worried about headlines. Smh

  56. buc4life1979 Says:

To everyone posting here that wants to brandish the mask of personal righteousness concerning Galette’s “character,” If he were signed tommorow, the bottomline is you’d be just fine with giving a guy that brings 22 sacks from the past 2 years with him another chance. And last time I checked, this is still the team that was openly pining and had it’s “face of the franchise” involved in the pining as well for the high character guy Greg Hardy. A guy so determined to rebound from his bad character profile that he and his agent actively sought and used the Bucs as pawn in a would be bidding war over his services all the while NEVER INTENDING to sign here. Anyone here actually see the “beach video” that is attached to Gallette’s character issues?? The guy was surrounded by a wanna be mob of people that weren’t there looking for his autograph. Man or woman, when ur alone with a mob of people around you with less than honorable intentions, you’re swigning, and you don’t care WHO gets hit. Anyone looking for the complete other side to Gallette’s locker room “cancer” presence, needs to also look at the other half of his team mates that publicy took up for him and said that wasn’t the case. One or two of them actually made reference to “other” D lineman on the team who were probably jealous of Gallette’s deal. But a cancer really gets elected a team captain right? Actually they don’t, see: Josh Freeman. And a guy who gets paid and then quits playing now qulaifies as someone who’s put up 22 sacks in 2 years just to earn that payday yes?? And negative headlines aren’t guilty of grabbing more peoples attention either right? Oh snap: See: Jameis Winston & Media Bias. And Sean “stealing pain meds from the team doctors” Peyton, oh yeah, he’s on the level. Would never dare make a rash or possibly vindictive decision against one of his own players…he saves that for opposing teams QB’s and his bounty posting defense. And Drew Brees, why he’s the posterboy for a literal new order of Sainthood ( no pun intended ) Really, First he said there was no way any “bounty system” was ever in place on his team. Only to comeback and say that he, well, just didn’t know about it….PA LEEZE. That entire organization has been every bit as shady as Bourbon Street is “loose” when ur in the middle of Mardi Gras ever since Peyton started coaching there. But yet, EVERYONE is soo quick to side with the Saint’s side of the story of all things?!?!

  57. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I didn’t think Lovie would go for Gilette, but I think I might be wrong.

  58. Stpetebucsfan Says:

You remind me of the guys who upon leaving a Bucs game…young “virile” males were dropping f bomb after f bomb. After a father with two young children asked them to tone it down they berated him and told him to F himself.

The couple we were with have never been back to a Bucs game!!! BTW this occurred at the old Sombero.

I’m just thankful you guys are in the minority. Otherwise I’d feel like I’m part of Raider nation.

There is NO correlation to being an undisciplined badasss off the field and being a good football player. Some ignorant aholes have turned out to be great players. Many great players are also class acts off the field. For those of you so lacking in class I get it. You have my sympathy! Being a jerk does not equate with being a good football player or a good fan!

  59. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    AGAIN…

The burden is on you Gallette supporters. WHY did the Saints let him walk. After all he was an impact player on the freaking 28th ranked defense last year…three spots worse than us.

Let’s just get that answer before all the pontification.

Why don’t the Saints want Junior? It wasn’t money they gave him his money.]

    WHY?

  60. Buc1987 Says:

Stpetebucsfan…LUV gave some answers on the thread below this one. Check it out.

  61. Buc1987 Says:

StPete…I only asked one simple question.

Do you think he will sign with another team?

  62. Kevin Says:

I wouldn’t say signing bowers is a stupid move, but I wouldn’t say it’s exciting news either. It’s a low risk possible high reward.

As for Junior and every other trouble maker who is good…I don’t really give a crap what someone does off the field. As long as they are allowed on the field than I’m good. Every single team in every single sport has some dumbass that doesn’t know how to act right. You just don’t hear about them all because they don’t get caught. They’re out there. 22 sacks in two seasons says sign me now and fire me later. Safeguard the contract

  63. WS99 Says:

    SPBF

I’ll take the thug and jerk comments with a grain of salt. I’m still a fan of SPBF even though we don’t agree on this particular point.

  64. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Most everyone deserves a second chance…..somewhere else….the Saint’s wanted to get rid of Galette so bad they ate a whopping $18 mil……that’s a pretty good indication that they felt coaching couldn’t solve the problem.
Now…does that mean he can’t play well and be a model citizen somewhere else…..no.

  65. Buc-A-New Says:

You guys really make me smile at the end of my day

  66. DallasBuc Says:

    Couple questions:
Who do we have on this team that can rush the passer?
    Can Bowers rush the passer?
If we have no one that can rush the passer is there anyone in a position of leadership on this team that is accountable for this deficit?
Is there a causal relationship between the competence of the HC and the success of the team on Sundays?
    Who is in charge again?

  67. drdneast Says:

Actually Buc1987 I wish we had picked up Incognio. I belive he was see up as a patsy by the other players parents who were both attorneys so he could get his final year paid out. He did.
Peterson I can understand where he was coming from but don’t endorse his acrions.
As for Gallett, I have mixed feeligs. First of all he is a hybrid DE/LB who played in a 34 defense.
    But all those sacks,yummy.
All that bad behavior and possible futureally game suspensions, yikes.

  68. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Buc-A-New

As I recall, laughter was third on your priority list….so I guess smiling qualifies….enjoy!!!

  69. WS99 Says:

He was ranked as a top ten 4-3 DE last year by BR but according to stanglassman it’s a different scheme than the bucs, you can make your own conclusions.

    http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2496685-br-nfl-1000-ranking-the-top-40-4-3-defensive-ends-from-2014/page/34

I saw that Jonathan Martin retired from football due to back injuries too.

All fussin and cryin and then he retires,

  71. Buccfan37 Says:

Let Bowers give it another go, nobody expects him to stick around very long. StPeteBucsFan, I enjoy your comments also. This whole site and everybody in on it just keeps my Buc appreciation rocking.

  72. Stanglassman Says:

Rob Ryan doesn’t run a 4-3 def. and it’s nothing like the true 4-3 single gap disciplined def the Bucs run. The last time Gilette played DE in a true 4-3 was in college and he didn’t even get drafted into the NFL he played so well.

  73. Buc-A-New Says:

    AMEN TBBF

  74. WS99 Says:

He can’t possibly be worse than George Johnson or Michael Johnson. Can he?

  75. Tom S. Says:

Meh. Why not give Bowers a shot to see if he can stick for the minimum. Obviously he needs to be motivated to succeed so this is his final chance.

Unfortunately a torn achilles is no small injury and while everyone points to the knee degeneration/work ethic issues, I have little doubt that his achilles injury probably slowed him up as much as anything.

  76. WS99 Says:

Not sure what this means but it’s interesting. Taken from Galettes gf Twitter profile.

    ” Eboni _xo –

  77. Stanglassman Says:

  78. Buc1987 Says:

99…that would just be great news. I might not be able to sleep tonight now.

  79. Buc1987 Says:

Well Stan…they’ve been saying he himself has been using her twitter account.

  80. WS99 Says:

We might just might have ourselves a pass rusher. Now we just need a starting MLB, 2 safeties, 2 guards and a center.

I’m putting a lot of faith on Kenny Ball to succeed. I hope he is a great return guy and a great 3 rcv. Licht might have a clue after all.

  81. Buc1987 Says:

    Then there’s this…

Galette: I got a verbal agreement with a division rival so now I can say whatever the hell I want, because the deal is pretty much locked up.

  82. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW Seriously and without snark. I’m genuinely curious. Why did the Saints let Gallette go? Keep in mind that their defense was actually worse than ours.

As an earlier poster pointed out it’s not like the bounty paying Saints are any bastion of character. I truly am curious as to what Gallette did to cross THEIR line.

  83. Buc1987 Says:

    From the article :

Galette was arrested in January on a domestic violence charge, but the case has been dismissed. He also has been dealing with a pectoral injury this summer, but there is no indication he’ll miss time during the season. There may be character issues with Galette, but nothing serious enough yet to warrant a suspension. All of these things definitely played a role in frustrating the Saints enough to the point that they were willing to take a huge cap hit (accruing around $17 million of dead cap money) to get Galette off their team.

  84. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Oh btw. Sorry 87 I didn’t mean to ignore your question.

I feel certain some other team will pick up Gallette if we don’t. SOME team would pick up Jack the Ripper or Ted Bundy if they could produce in the NFL. Sad eh?

  85. Buc1987 Says:

StPeteBucsFan…we don’t know. But one thing I’m certain of is some team is going to sign him by tomorrow.

  86. Buc1987 Says:

Sad is the definition of the Bucs pass rush as well.

  87. Sick of the Wait Says:

    St. Pete

Not sure what it is that turned things sour between Gallette and N.O. but things like that happen.
Perhaps it was money? Revis comes to mind. Bucs accept and huge contract for him to play here and a year later change their minds.

Perhaps a squabble with a team mate on a personal level.

Perhaps a personal problem with the coaching staff. Keyshawn and Gruden?

Who knows. But, he is available and a weapon we need. Sign him and turn him loose on Brees. The best way to hurt division rivals is to sign away the best players.

  88. Buc1987 Says:

99 yeah I read that too about him trashing Payton’s GF or something along those lines.

  89. BucsFan85 Says:

Evening Buc and everyone. Are the rumors true? Galette signed with us?

  90. Buc1987 Says:

Buc…perhaps we could go back to talking about jam and jelly making.

  91. BucsFan85 Says:

According to Gallette he says he’s signing with a division rival by tomorrow night.

So we have 33% chance then.

  94. Buc-A-New Says:

    Lol 85.

  95. BucsFan85 Says:

Yeah, we could use his services. He’s on a mission now. Maybe risky because of potential suspensions, but the Tampa 2 thrives on the pass rush. 4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB all know how to get the QB

“If the player can play, I don’t give a damn what he does in his personal life.”

You might have everyone else fooled on here since I’ve been gone, but I know your not this narrow minded. Your a softy at heart ahahaha 😉

    Good one 87 lol, smh.

If the world had the mindset we’d be one F’d up place, oh wait it is lol.

Regardless, I’ve interacted with you for years on here and I KNOW you aren’t that ignorant.

But to answer your question, I don’t give a damn what another team does, many teams make many stupid decisions. Good for them, as long as my Bucs don’t, that’s ALL I care about.

Love you 87 :), nice to be back.
    TAMPA BAY ALL THE WAY!

  104. Another J Says:

Hopefully he’ll only be making 7.25 an hour like he deserves.

  105. The Real Malloy Says:

The triumphant return of Cheeseburger Bowers!!!

  106. Buc1987 Says:

PRB..nice to see you back. How was the prison food?

If you’re really back, then pay close attention. I’m not as much of a softie as I used to be. Being a softie on this site can get you into some trouble. I’ve been hardened from Schiano 2013 and Lovie 2014.

Like the other day I was describing myself to a new poster. I said I’m 1 part realist and 1 part homer. In actuality though when I think you about it. I have a split personality when it comes to this team. I minute I’m a rah rah homer. Then next minute I’m a cranky realist. If the wind changes I could go one way or the other.

Again nice to see you back. Stick around a little bit more.

  107. LargoBuc Says:

If he wasnt dedicated under Raheem, Schiano or under Lovie last year, what changed?
Schiano literally handed him the starting left end spot. It was his to loose. And he showed NOTHING in camp. NOTHING in pre season and whatcha know, he gives us NOTHING come September. He got a hand out very few get in this league, and really life in general. He didnt care! For the guy to blast Schiano when Schiano gave him an oppuritunity 31 other NFL head coaches wouldnt, well Schiano didnt screw Bowers. Bowers screwed Bowers
At least he get paid a camp meat salary. However we could use his spot in camp to give a kid that wants to give 110% a shot. Instead we just ask a question that we already know the answer to.

  108. PRBucFan Says:

Ahahahaha I hear you bro 😀

And the food was excellent old friend! 😛

    Nice to be back indeed.

  109. Dan Says:

So, why do we feel the need to compare players that don’t compare? Bowers vs. Gillette… totally different. Bowers is a league minimum guy who I thought was good enough to play some downs at DT as a back-up. Gallette is a starter, who will demand starter money. Signing Bowers is a totally different situation. Gulette is a risk- PR, financially (no way he’s playing for cheap), and suspension wise.

If Bucs decide Gilette is worth the risk, they can sign him and cut Bowers. So Bowers isn’t a second round DE talent. Oh well. Now he is slated in the right spot… league minimum for back-up money. If he makes team, great. If not, oh well.

  110. Dan Says:

How the heck do you spell his name anyways?
