Tom Krasniqi of WDAE-AM 620 believes Trent Cole should not leave One Buc Palace today without his signature on a contract.

Does Joe need to recount just how vomit-inducing the Bucs’ pass rush was (UH-gen) last year? It’s getting to be a laughingstock how this franchise simply cannot find a double-digit sack guy.

That leads Joe to Trent Cole, the recently released outside linebacker/defensive end formerly with the Eagles.

Cole used to be a dangerous pass rusher in a 43 front, but Bill Walsh Chip Kelly wants a 34 defense, and Cole’s dropped enough as an outside linebacker and  he was released.

On WDAE-AM 620 this morning, Bucs beat reporter and host Tom Krasniqi made a strong argument for the Bucs to sign Cole, who is in Tampa today meeting with the Bucs.

“Is Trent Cole better than [the Bucs’] current personnel? The answer is yes,” Krasniqi said. “Is Trent Cole better than Michael Johnson? The answer is yes.”

    Yes! Please do

  2. unbelievable Says:

Sign him to a contract with modest base salary, but make it full of incentives that allow him to make big money if he has a a really strong season.

Can’t be overpaying FAs who are 32+ years old, no matter what they’ve done in the past.

  3. WS99 Says:

Michael Sam is cheap and he can play. Just saying

  4. topcoach1978 Says:

I dont give a damn how old he is or how much yall think he deserves to make it aint our money if he is gonna sack the qb sign him!!! We’ll let him walk and someone else will sign him and he’ll kill us like Devin Hester did!!!

  5. feelthepewterpower Says:

Baggage, but we can get Greg Hardy for a lot less and more production with something to prove. We invested in older pro-bowl free agents when Chucky was here and look how those panned out.

  6. robert 9 Says:

    hardy over him all day

+ he looks like a DT in this picture. lol

  7. Eric Says:

Yeah look where that got us. Division titles and such……….

  8. mikeh Says:

we need linebacker help! if you can sign him for cheap fine with incentives I agree. also hardy would be awesome but he has issues off field. but if were going to sign jw why not take a chance with hardy. but lovie and crew probably will not.

  9. The Real Drew Says:

Brandon Graham will be available too, he’s solid and younger. I wouldn’t be against Trent Cole signing, though.

  10. robert 9 Says:

if they sign JW they may as well sign Hardy and AP

  11. Lord Cornelius Says:

I’d take him. 15 sacks the last 2 seasons as OLB in 3-4. I’d assume he’ll not cost too much and maybe we can get him on an incentive based deal. Signing him is smart but only at the right price. He could be a rotational starter.

I don’t see why Hardy would be cheaper.. Even with violence issues.

This roster isn’t as terrible as people make it seem. McCOy/McDonald/David/Verner/Banks are all solid defensive starters; 2 All pros and Verner has been a probowler. We are missing a great DE, MLB, S but that’s about it for solid starters. Akeem Spence is solid DT. Most teams aren’t stacked at every position.

On offense we have WRs/TEs/RBs; and just need a good O-line and QB. Just 2 solid offensive lineman could drastically improve the line; and we have our choice of QB at 1.

My dream would be to somehow restructure Michael Johnson.

in FA – Sign a guy like Cole to be a rotational player; and continue developing guys like Gholston/Jaquis Smith.

Sign an OT or OG in their 20s that can be a solid starter at worst.

Sign a S if the right one becomes available (like dude from Pats).

    Draft Winston #1.
Draft BPA – likely DE/OG/MLB/OT in round 2
Draft BPA – has to be O-line if went anywhere else round 2. Top of round 3 could and should produce a starting Offensive Lineman easily based on history.
    BPA rest of draft

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    He’s not a olb, he’s a DE.

He’s a short fix at best at 32 and his entire career spent in cool Philly training camps. Better have great depth!

  13. canadian bucsfan Says:

I don’t think it’s a great idea to sign him. Rather keep Claybourne and with the $ they save sign Hardy and let Johnson kick rocks.

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

I meant to add – if we do that approach to FA/Draft; then we can look at an elite DE in round 1 next year; because that will likely be the last MAJOR hole if we are able to address everything I stated. Could also grab an elite LT or whatever the next year if that’s not addressed.

Can’t get it all in one season but we can do a lot. The biggest reason for hope is a franchise QB though. That changes everything regardless of how sh$tty you think the line is

  15. Alstott up the gut Says:

100% sign him…. Hell, get Hardy as well! Haven’t had an elite pass rush in over 10 years. Actually is laughable. I’m in New York and I’ve seen the Giants win a lot of Superbowls on paying serious attention to the pass rush!

  16. Luther Says:

We don’t need Michael Sam. We will already have enough going on with Winston and I don’t want more distractions not related to football. Sam will be ok on dancing with the stars.

  17. rdbucfan Says:

You guys are all funny. According to all of the winstonians, we don’t need an offensive line, defensive line, special teams or even a coach for that matter (Jameis was yelling at Jimbo Fisher in the semifinal game because he was calling a horrible game and should have let Jameis call the plays, it’s in the archives look it up). All we need is Jameis Winston. All he did was win 26 games all by himself.

It’s comical all of the excuses they throw out for his performance last year. His offensive line was crap, his wide receivers were too young and caused nearly all of his interceptions. The only reason they had so many comebacks is because Jameis carried the team (yet he played the first half of all of the comebacks just like Josh Freeman dug the hole and had to dig out in the 4th quarter) If you say that Glennon had no chance with the offensive line we had last year. That is no excuse, he just sucks.

We might as well just resign Josh Freeman and the winstonites might just go away.

  18. rdbucfan Says:

If even remember reading one WeighsaTONian comment that he probably had a higher football IQ than Jon Gruden. It’s in the archives. Funny stuff.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Luther

    On Sam….we agree!……no distractions please!!!

For the Winston supporters…..I hope for your sake we don’t sign any character issue players in FA.

You might think that paves the way for Winston….I think the opposite.

  20. WS99 Says:

You guys are funny. Hardy and AP were arrest and tried. But that’s none of my business though.

  21. WS99 Says:

No distractions but you want to sign hardy n AP? I don’t get it.

Any asking to sign AP or Hardy yet trashing Winston has absolutely no credibility except Tbbf bc he doesn’t bash others.

Some of you guys are crazy but not in a good way.

  22. mikeh Says:

BONZAI he is listed as a linebacker. but has played both positions.

  23. mikeh Says:

alstott I agree I was hoping the bucs could have had a shot at j piere paul. but G MEN wont let him go.

  24. WS99 Says:

I’m meh on cole. Rather build a team with a young nucleus. LVD, BANKS, Evans, Winston etc.

Tired of getting robbed by FAs ie The Ghost and crew.

  25. Another J Says:

I like Trent Cole, but He’s on the wrong side of 30.

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @WS99

Thanks for noticing…..I don’t bash others because I want to be able to make my points without prejudice….It’s just not necessary….also I have a great respect for passionate Buc fans.
By showing respect for their opinions…..I hope to gain the same for mine.

As far as the subject of character issue players….yes, it depends on the individual player…their offence….Buc need vs. cost…etc.

Certainy it is somewhat hypocritical to support a player who has been convicted and not support a player that is only accused.

I think the debate is certainly heightened with the #1 pick…you could gamble on a late round player and even a FA.

I absolutely agree that a player…especially a very young one….can be a good person that did a bad thing.

Some of these guys are simply thugs….who have gotten a big paycheck and it has exaserbated their bad behavior. (not giving examples except perhaps Aaron Hernandez, Ray Carruth….

  27. Alstott up the gut Says:

    @mikeh

Too good against the run as well to let him free. Agreed though, kept a close eye on his availability.

  28. WS99 Says:

    Tbbf

No issues brother. A wise man once said “real recognizes real”

  29. salish_seamonster Says:

All for this move, as long as they don’t pay him like a 27 year old 10 sack guy.

  30. Jack Says:

Agreed, Joe. Let’s get this guy and solve on of our biggest problems.

  31. BPA Says:

@Topnotch you are 100% correct idiots come here and act like they are the Glazers most them are yacking about some else money I think comes from envy and jealousy. Why don’t you guys post the company you work for so we can tell them your stupid arse need an incentive lased paycheck..

  32. Bear the Bucs Says:

Not all older free agents are a bust. Remember what Hardy Nickerson did when he came in ? He changed the whole mindset for the defense that lasted 10 years !

  33. salish_seamonster Says:

    @BPA-

In case you hadn’t noticed, there’s this little thing called a salary cap and overpaying for underperforming players has an impact on your ability to win. So that’s why we yack about somebody else’s money. Duh.

  34. gotbbucs Says:

Excelent nickel pass rusher. Sign him and Jabaal Sheard and we have a very solid rotation on the right side. YOU CAN NOT HAVE ENOUGH PASS RUSHERS!

  35. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Gotbucs I’m wit you when right. Can not have enough pass rushers.

Where have you ever read that anywhere on JBF?

Any one of us “Winstonites” claiming that he’s all we need? EVERYONE can see this team needs lots of help. Including the HC.

  37. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

This team needs O-line help badly…

    This team needs 2 DE’s badly….

This team needs a solid MLB badly…

This team needs Jamies Winston badly…

    Thee end rdbucfan.

  38. BoJim Says:

    rdbucfan. u r a joke.

  39. briandorry55 Says:

Sign him and his good friend Brandon Graham.
