NFL “Elevated” Bucs On Mike GlennonMay 12th, 2014
Former Bucs quarterback Shaun King was a busy man this weekend. The NFL analyst for NBC Sports Network, which you enjoy weeknights with the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio, was at Radio City Music Hall.
As he returned to Tampa today, King, only one of three quarterbacks to lead the Bucs to an NFC Championship game, took some time to discuss football, including the Bucs, on Ron and Ian, heard locally on WDAE-AM 620.
King believes the Bucs are not blowing smoke about their newfound love for backup quarterback Mike Glennon. King believes so many teams wanted to trade for Glennon it made the Bucs rethink their position on the second-year quarterback from North Carolina State.
“I think the other teams’ interest in Mike Glennon elevated his status within the Bucs organization,” King said. “From what I was told, a lot of teams really view Mike Glennon as a legitimate starter down the line and really coveted him. I think because of that interest, it made [Bucs coach] Lovie [Smith] and [Bucs general manager] Jason [Licht] re-evaluate his standing here in Tampa. So I think his status was elevated.”
