A long look at the Bucs yesterday, today, and what to expect tomorrow and beyond.

OK, so here we are, halfway through the season and the Bucs have but one win. Pretty awful, isn’t it?

Joe really hadn’t called out Lovie Smith much beyond insinuating his player evaluations have been dreadful. This changes now, if only for the following. [read more]

Who Is In Charge?

November 3rd, 2014

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

You know why the Bucs are horrible this year? You know why the Bucs stink out loud? It starts at the top with Lovie Smith.

The Bucs have done an awful job evaluating talent; there are way too many examples. And who is the overlord of all football operations, who has final say on who sees the field? Lovie. [read more]

So, You Miss Mark Barron?

November 3rd, 2014
The Bucs defense improved without passive safety Mark Barron.

The Bucs defense improved without passive safety Mark Barron.

Despite what the players say, Joe thinks the Bucs defense is improving. Yeah, really. The Bucs held the Vikings to 13 points last week (in regulation) and the Browns to 22 (and honestly, the special teams gave up 11 points to the Browns’ offense).

Bucs players have told Joe, no, the defense hasn’t turned the corner. But Joe can see it, especially yesterday. [read more]

Bowers Seems Bothered By GMC’s Words

November 2nd, 2014
Bucs suspended DE Da'Quan Bowers lashes out on Twitter.

Suspended DE Da’Quan Bowers lashes out on Twitter.

Now, the drama is beginning, something Joe prayed for almost as much as wins.

When a garbage team — and when you are 1-7, you are garbage — has no drama, there is apathy, which is the worst thing that can ever happen. Now there is drama. [read more]

The Real Deal: Mike Evans

November 2nd, 2014

JohnnyEvans

When Joe wants to feel happiness, Joe thinks about Mike Evans. It feels good.

Joe hasn’t been this excited about a rookie wide receiver since blade-in-the-thigh, mattress-in-the-yard Mike Williams burst onto the Tampa Bay scene in 2010, and proceeded to haul in 65 balls and a whopping 11 touchdowns. [read more]

Lovie: “There’s No Doubt We’re Headed In The Right Direction”

November 2nd, 2014

Congratulations, Oneil Cousins!

November 2nd, 2014

CousinsJoe is somewhat stunned that the reason the Bucs lost today had nothing to do with Oneil Cousins, who filled in at left tackle for injured Anthony Collins.

Cousins was the scourge of preseason when he allowed Josh McCown to get pounded like Whac-a-mole. But today he stood tall. [read more]

Bobby Rainey Seals Starting RB Slot

November 2nd, 2014

bobby rainey 1102

Does anyone really believe Doug Martin should be a starting tailback after what Bobby Rainey did today?

In Joe’s eyes, Rainey answered any and all questions about who should be the starting tailback of the Bucs.

Hint: The answer is not Martin. [read more]

Blocked Field Goal On Mankins

November 2nd, 2014

blocked field goal

Every small mistake is magnified if it costs points. And Logan Mankins make a ghastly Pop Warner mistake today that very likely cost the Bucs three.

Early in the game, Tampa Bay lined up for a field goal when behemoth Browns defensive lineman Billy Winn hurdled the Bucs’ offensive line right over Mankins and blocked the kick. [read more]

Would Lovie Smith Survive A Two-Win Season?

November 2nd, 2014

HesterLovie

Lovie Smith is comfortable saying a team’s record represents who and what it is.

So that means the Bucs are a 1-7 football team with the worst record in the NFC. If this keeps up, then Lovie would staring down the barrel of a two-win season. [read more]

Mike Evans Was Guilty

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

FOX’s referee guru weighs in

Part of the nut-kick that was the Bucs’ loss today at the Factory of Sadness, which dropped Tampa Bay to 1-7, was a first-down catch late in the game by Mike Evans. It was waved off as Evans was called for offensive pass interference — pushing off.

In the video below, Twittered out by NFL rules guru Mike Pereira of Fox Sports, the former head of NFL officiating breaks down the film and explains in great detail why it was a penalty on Evans. [read more]

Special Teams Killed The Bucs

Bucs DL Will Gholston got a scolding from Lovie Smith after his penalty on a field goal gave the Browns a first down.

Bucs DL Will Gholston got a scolding from Lovie Smith after his penalty on a field goal gave the Browns a first down.

It is hard to win in the NFL.

It is hard to win on the road in the NFL.

It is nearly impossible to win on the road in the NFL when your special teams yaks up 14 points. [read more]

No Excuses For Glennon

November 2nd, 2014
"Ball security, my son. Even I might sit you down after a showing like that."

“Ball security, my son. Even I might sit you down after a showing like that.”

Today, Mike Glennon had all the things a good quarterback needs to be successful. Big active receivers, a running game, and time to throw.

But Glennon didn’t get it done. In fact, he cost the Bucs dearly with two heinous and needless interceptions. [read more]

Michael Johnson Played Halloween

This get-up was popular among Bucs fans who celebrated Halloween this weekend dressed as Bucs DE Michael Johnson.

This get-up was popular among Bucs fans who celebrated Halloween this weekend dressed as Michael Johnson.

It was two days after Halloween and Bucs big-moneyed free agent defensive end Michael Johnson was still in the partying spirit. Because he played a ghost today.

As usual, Johnson was invisible and at one time appeared benched. Johnson thinks it is Halloween every game because Demi Moore can play defensive end just as well. [read more]

Browns 22, Buccaneers 17

November 2nd, 2014

The Bucs didn’t shoot themselves in the foot today in Cleveland. They slit their throats, dove on their swords and drank a bottle of cyanide.

The special teams were atrocious. Mike Glennon was clueless too often, and the Bucs’ defense was nowhere near good enough. [read more]

Throw The Damn Ball!

November 2nd, 2014

Nothing has pissed Joe off more than the Bucs’ insistence on either waiting until late in the first half to throw a deep pass, or rarely using the deep ball in the first half.

And don’t tell Joe nobody’s open or the defense isn’t giving opportunity. [read more]
