Your NFL Passes Defensed Leader: Jacob Parrish

October 10th, 2026

Don’t even think about it, haters. Jacob Parrish sat out in Week 2 with an injury.

Parrish, a Buccaneers starting outside cornerback and their 2025 third-round draft pick, is now tied for the NFL lead in passes defensed with seven.

Consider that Parrish had seven all last season, one more than Zyon McCollum.

Yes, Parrish is having the breakthrough second season typical of high-quality NFL players. That leap is usually large for them in Year 2. Parrish’s interception of Jordan Love last week was an absolute thing of beauty, a smart move as he freelanced out of his zone.

Go back and watch the Bucs-Cowboys game as Joe has done twice. It’s amazing what happens when cornerbacks play tight coverage rather than the soft cushions typical of the Todd Bowles defense. What a thing of beauty.

Bucs corners had a very special night against top-flight receivers, despite zero Bucs sacks for the second consecutive game.

Maybe there is hope left for this season.

  2. Ron Potter Says:

Give him time. This PBUs might turn into INTs soon.

  3. Scott McKirahan Says:

I’ve never understood why this is even a stat, let alone one someone should be proud to have the highest number of.

Great corners never even seen a ball thrown in their direction. If a team is constantly throwing it your way, it’s because they think you are the weakest link.

Say somebody had 10 passes defensed but they had 30 thrown their way that weren’t. Is that still a good thing?

  4. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Zyon also looks great.

I’m your supplemental “things guy” … from a fan perspective:

FIVE THINGS — THE PARRISH EDITION!

Parrish has seven passes defensed. Our pass rush has apparently filed for unemployment. Imagine what this kid could do with a little help up front.

Parrish missed an entire game and STILL leads the NFL in passes defensed.

Somebody check whether the other 31 teams know the season started.

Who knew playing tight coverage instead of giving receivers a complimentary 12-yard head start could actually work? Revolutionary stuff!

Seven passes defensed and counting. Parrish is turning opposing quarterbacks into generous donors to the Tampa Bay secondary.

Parrish and Zyon are proving something remarkable: Even without a pass rush, opposing quarterbacks can still have a thoroughly miserable evening.

They can think all they want. If a DB is getting picked on and he’s preventing completions, isn’t that a good thing?

  7. Baking with Robinson Says:

May be that’s the main change needed with this defense – tight coverage. Like Thursday night.

  8. DS Says:

Tellin u Parrish is the best corner we have had in sometime he is very sticky in coverage and the pick he had against GB was what elite corners do

  9. Jarrett Says:

I can’t believe the Bucs won

We supposed to be tanking for Manning smh

Nice!! Scott go brush your teeth! You got gator breath

I understand you Joe, and I get the importance of PBUs. But isn’t passer rating a better gauge?

I guess that may also depend on who is throwing at you: Malik Willis vs Day, as an example

  13. Flush Bowles Says:

Parrish is a stud. Too bad he’s not just a little bit taller, but I love his heart. This team needs more of it.

  14. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Dak Prescott currently has the 2nd highest QBR in the NFL.

    NICE JOB Buc defenders!!

  15. Proudbucfan Says:

If every Quarterback this team plays picks on Parish and Parish doesn’t allow competitions and starts intercepting the ball then the future Quarterbacks he faces will stop throwing at him, and he will become a shut down corner. How hard is that to understand ?

  16. Rocky Says:

If Bowles lets them play in coverage and if somehow he lets edge rushers rush the passer our defense will be really good. We have talented players but coaches that dont know what to do with them.

  17. Oscar Says:

The person making the comment implying that Parrish leads the league in passes defended because they throw his way constantly and that if he was any good, they wouldn’t throw his way, should consider that maybe he is in the process of establishing his reputation as a top shelf corner. Teams don’t fear a corner until he proves it on the field for a good while. I think he may have already arrived. McCollum has been inconsistent most of his career, but he’s also playing very well right now. Too bad Morrison is injured again, because he has played well also! That’s 3 good outside corners. Licht deserves his flowers on these guys.

  18. 50 year True fan Says:

Those of you that remember the first Super Bowl year, there was a player by the name of Bryan Kelly that wore number 25 also. Without him making big plays in crucial times the bucs would not have won it all! He was undersized but, played harder than anyone else on the field. I swear having Parish is just like having Kelly because he can make a game changing play at any time! Any one that complains about Parish for any reason is an Ahole! Go Bucs!

  19. Simple T Says:

Todd and the new assistants deserve some flowers for the secondary play.

And yes more PBU’s is indicative of being “tried” more…. Opponents DO think he’s the weakest link but hes holding his own, and he shouldn’t face a tougher assignment than Pickens all year.

  20. Tackleblockwin Says:

Our CBs playing so well this season has been a nice surprise. I was not worried about Parrish, but the others seem to be playing with more confidence and skill. Huge kudos is only fair. Keep it up because we are going to need it.

  21. McBay Says:

The Bowles soft zone scheme is brilliant. That way they never give up the big play. Probably see more of it against Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers.

  22. DS Says:

Parrish has slots Brent grimes to his game but no niko around lol
