A’Shawn Robinson Held Dudes Accountable Last Week

Yesterday between heaves, Joe was waiting, almost begging for some Bucs player to light up a teammate.
No, Joe is not talking about punching another guy. But Joe, late in the game, was waiting for Baker Mayfield to come off the field, fastball his helmet at the bench and start reading people the riot act, including his offensive coordinator Zac Robinson.
Joe wanted to see someone do a John Lynch in the 1999 playoffs when, at home against the Redskins, the offense was doing nothing. The Bucs were only in the game by the grace of their defense.
Lynch picked off Brad Johnson near the sideline. When the play was over, he walked near the offensive coaches and did a Gronk spike with the ball, as if to tell them it was high time to get off their dead asses and start getting some production.
That never happened yesterday, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen last week. Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, A’Shawn Robinson was fed up with the Bucs defense playing half-arsed and he was going after people in the Bucs’ locker room last week.
That seemed to work. The Bucs defense had a solid and maybe strong game Sunday, forcing eight punts and allowing just 16 points. The Bucs didn’t lose because of the defense, that is for sure.
But di Robinson’s leadership skills come a week too late?

If you only count points where the offense didn’t turn it over in FG range for the other team, the Bucs defense has given up:
Week 1: 16 points
Week 2: 20 points
Week 3: 13 points
That’s 16.3 points per game, which would be the best in the NFL last season.
Also, that doesn’t account for the fact the defense directly scored a TD, and today got another turnover keep in Vikings territory, a TO that Baker turned into just 3 points. Still, that’s 10 points the defense is directly responsible for. So if you adjust for that, the Bucs defense is down to 13 net points a game.
The defense has not been an issue this year, and if the Bucs got even remotely competent QB play, they’d be 3-0 right now.

Defense is out playing offense. Sure wish they didn’t give baker the unearned contract.

Obviously it had an effect on the defense. They played lights out. Even Anzalone played a lot better as did Voss. The corners have been playing great all three games. The Dline joined them yesterday. Linebacker play was a lot better but still left our middle open far too often for intermediate passes.
Hopefully, Daniels can bring some stability back to the offense. Baker plays erratic, sees ghosts, retreats when he doesn’t have to, misses wide open recievers constantly and seems downright scared in the pocket.
The major question is, when we start winning with Daniels, will he be replaced when Baker heals?

The one thing I liked seeing from Daniels is when the pass rush threatened from the side he took a couple quick steps forward and looked to pass again. Climbing in the pocket without panicking is an underappreciated skill.

The question I have and I haven’t studied the All-22 for these games is just how open are receivers getting that Baker is missing them and for how long? Curious if it’s an epidemic or just a quick momentary thing…

Baker can’t hold anyone accountable with him playing so poorly. Same for Bowles….he can’t get into anyone because the players might revolt at this point. It’s going to be a season of misery because Glazers won’t fire anyone mid season, they’ll make the coaches work to get paid as there’s no likelihood they get a contract with another staff mid season.
Find something else to entertain yourself with because watching this team is pointless until they get back to .500. That will be at least three weeks from now.

I sure am glad you wrote that about A’Shawn Robinson Joe. Far as I’m concerned, he’s been the only really CONSISTENT player on the whole team this season. He now has 13 tackles, 1 sack, 2 QB hits, 1 TFL & 1 PD. He’s been an impact player IOW in all 3 games.
Vea looked like he finally woke up yesterday (4 tackles & 1 QB hit in 48 def snaps yesterday), but I’m still very disappointed in Kancey. He played 68% of the ballgame yesterday (40 def snaps), and was in on 2 tackles. That gives him 3 total tackles & 1 QB hit TOTAL for his 3 games (117 def snaps … 65% availability). Vea & Kancey are the 2 biggest reasons IMO why our pass rush has sucked this year for the most part.

Really can’t gripe too much about defense. Big time improvement over last year. Let’s get Trot back. Bain? I think he’ll come around, give the young man some time and a new DC. Offense? Offensive.

Too bad Todd Bowles wasn’t one of those dudes. He flat sucks.
And Baker is a tool. He’s not a leader in any capacity.

If Baker wasn’t as elusive in the pocket as he is, he would have been sacked 9 times yesterday! That’s a tall order to run an efficient offense with that much duress
