The HC that loves to blitz has only done it, what, once or twice. They forced a short pass for two yards on one of those blitzes. Now we’re just sitting back and letting Burrow pick our butts apart. Very poor coaching.

Maybe it’s because I’m old, but I’m sick of the current day practice of starters taking the pre-season off. The Bucs on both sides of the ball look like none of them are ready to play and have never played with their teammates before.
In my opinion, you can have all the joint practices you want, but nothing beats actual game experience.

Bucs’ defense isn’t doing fantastic, but they’re not horrific either. They’ve given up 14 completions (out of 20 targets) for 133 yds & 1 TD, plus 50 yds rushing on 11 rushes. Our problem has obviously been THREE turnovers by the offense.
Still, we 2 TDs down with an entire half to go. Anything’s possible. Ask the USF Bulls after yesterday’s last second win against Army.

When you get a number of new players, a number of them being studs, and you still can’t get to the QB and still can’t cover those short routes…it’s the scheme and the coaching. Period. Put this team under a great coaching staff, and most of the problems go away. Baker will still screw up, so there’s that.

When your zone defense has guys playing 10-15 yards off the line of scrimmage, and just standing around – YES, there’s plenty of space for QBs to run – not to mention for WRs and RBs and TEs to run.
This isn’t the 2002 Bucs defense – this isn’t THAT zone defense.
This is the garbage Bowles zone defense where guys literally run backwards into soft zone at the snap after already being 10 yards off the line of scrimmage at the snap.
Did you watch how the Bengals moved it right down the field as the zone didn’t bother to challenge the Bengals at all?
Then you take a 12 yard QB run and say – “SEE THAT’S WHY ZONE DEFENSE IS A MUST”… You have 6 other defenders on the field in man and if the scheme calls for it, they can spy the QB, or someone might just play the middle the field, or perhaps it’s an all out blitz and the offense makes a good lay and pushes all the rushers to the outside.
To claim ZONE defense is the answer for Bowles denies what we’ve seen every single game since Arians got fired – since Arians was the one that didn’t let Bowles play this soft crap.

Bowles super soft sloppy zone = stand around flat footed, wait for something to happen, very little movement, let opponents pass freely, allows large passing windows.
2002 Bucs active zone = very responsive, the players in zone move in coordination keeping windows tight.
